I enjoyed it, I quite like all of them although I don't have a Scooby who Alex is.
Mel had scoliosis as a child and you can see it if you know. Maybe that's why she's a bit cautious

LulooLemon · 22/09/2023 15:38

Quite watchable so far

Billy is such an amazing young man and great to see that his sister is cut from the same cloth. Straight into the pigeon crap she went.

When they first talked about working in a tannery, we were shouting 'Noooo' at the TV. We took a tour of the Marrakech one and the smell was something else.

Nottheeightoutoftencats · 22/09/2023 15:52

I've not had the 'pleasure' of visiting one but I am aware of the traditional tanning process so the second they mentioned it I wondered if they had any idea what they were letting themselves in for.

The show suggests that it's a month, so yes, an interrail ticket might be good value, especially for Billie and Bonnie.

A lot of high speed trains require additional paid seat reservations though, which would be tricky.

You may need a pass travelling from each country as well. Anyway the next point of destination is Corsica, so more ferries needed.

If going from Denmark to Sweden - over The Øresund Bridge - it is legal to hitchhike BEFORE getting on the motorway and many do this.

CraftyGin · 22/09/2023 16:44

Loved the first episode and really looking forward to the rest.

I have no idea who those slebs are.

The Canada trip was too much of one route/one train, and everything in the last mile to race. I think this trip will have a lot more variety.

Newestname002 · 22/09/2023 18:43

@CraftyGin

I have no idea who those slebs are.

Me too, for most of them.

Alex reads/used to have a weather spot on GMB. He and Piers Morgan had a bit of an argument a while ago when Piers was again going on about Meghan/Duchess of Sussex and Piers stalked off the show. For some irrational reason Alex really irritates me without him even speaking - which is more my problem than his. 🌹

I've been to that hotel in pinhao. It was fabulous but uphill from the rest of pingao which is beautiful. I hope they show some of it. I remembered the river on the left and it brought back such lovely memories, which is making me look forward to the rest of the series. I am so looking forward to seeing where else to travel to!

RocketsMagnificent7 · 23/09/2023 15:02

Just caught up on the first episode. Loved it. Billy and Bonny are amazing. The parents are also all quite charming.

Definitely better than the Canada one already. While I loved the scenery on that one, it got very samey.

Can see at least one team having to drop out due to budget.

Just caught up on it last night and a very enjoyable start. Normally there's at least one couple that are winding me up already 😂 but this time there's no obvious ones.

Really enjoy watching the relationships change and develop in previous series - was it series one with the father and young adult son who was a bit (well, totally) useless at the start but by the end he'd grown so much in confidence and competence that he was the driving force behind the team

Series one, Darren and Alex. He definitely blossomed, such a lovely young lad. I follow them both on social media.

Samcro · 23/09/2023 16:17

Just watched it
love billy and bonny
harrys mum is only 63 so not old

Morty12 · 23/09/2023 16:26

Watched it last night, I really enjoyed it, much better than the Canada series. Its much more interesting when they don't speak the language. All of the contestants are quite likeable. In previous series I found quite a few of them annoying.
I thought Harry's mum was older than that.

BeaLola · 23/09/2023 16:34

I am shocked that Harry's Mum is 63 - only 8 years older than me - she seemed quite "senior" in her mannerisms etc

ScribblingPixie · 23/09/2023 16:49

Maybe they've knocked a couple of years off her age? Harry Judd has a sister four years older than him so his mum would have married and started a family very young.

Nottheeightoutoftencats · 23/09/2023 17:14

I assumed she was older than 63 but marrying and having kids in your very early twenties wasn't unusual back in the early 80's.

ReviewingTheSituation · 23/09/2023 17:20

We stayed there too - last year! We were shouting at the telly when they mis-interpreted "UP the road"!

RichardArmitagesWife · 23/09/2023 17:26

I loved Harry's mum and her Richard and Judy book!

I don't know any of the celebs except Mel, and even then I culdn't have named her, just "one ofn the All Saints girls who did that shrugging dance".

Marrakesh looked incredible. Seville is every bit as gorgeous as I remember. Portugal is wonderful.

ScribblingPixie · 23/09/2023 17:27

It's more like my dream holiday than a gruelling challenge so far. And they're off to Corsica next time too.

OhTheSilence · 23/09/2023 21:38

DS and I have just been arguing about the instructions to get to the hotel. Were they supposed to walk along the river keeping the river on the left, cross the bridge, then turn left again still keeping the river on the left?

purpleme12 · 23/09/2023 22:32

I knew them all apart from the weather person.
Although to be fair I only knew Billy from watching the documentary on him and his recovery from his accident.

Loving it so far.

And to be fair Richard and Judy books are good!

Surprised at Mel and the lack of confidence

2023usernameNew · 23/09/2023 22:36

Mel was also on Celebrity Masterchef not long ago.

I thinks she may be a bit lost and is trying different things, maybe looking for some approval or recognition on her own rather than as part of a group?

I’m not saying this in a nasty way, I like her and good for her for challenging herself and stepping out of her comfort zone in front of millions of people.

The bridge crosses a tributary of the main river, so you start with the river on your left when you leave the station/taxi rank and then keep it on your left once you're over the bridge. It makes sense when you're there.

OhTheSilence · 23/09/2023 23:49

I've just looked up Google Maps now I understand! 😄

FrazzledFirefly · 24/09/2023 00:40

Yes, I'd have put Harry's mum mid 70s....

ScribblingPixie · 24/09/2023 08:31

I found another article in which Harry says his mum started a family at 22 so her given age is right, and I feel bad for speculating. I think the BBC wrong footed me by stressing that she needed Harry to look after her.
She looks great though - all the parents do. I love Mel's mum & hope we'll get to see some of her army skills.
