First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

I shrieked when I saw that hideous jacket, shouted 'Thank fuck!' when Charlotte said she would take up the gallery offer and told Aidan to get a grip when he wouldn't go up to the damn apartment. So, he'd willingly go to a hotel with the woman who broke his heart - twice! - but he can't manage to let that godawful jacket fall to a floor he once sanded?

It wouldn't occur to me to reach out to a friend specifically because it's valentines day. Not since in was 25 anyhow

What a load of shite

The old SATC never once mentioned this valentine bullshit

Yes they did - Carrie and Miranda were in a crazily decorated restaurant on Valentine's Day when they had an argument about something - Big?

Ridemeginger · 28/07/2023 16:02

That was in the first film, when they argued about Miranda telling Big the night before his wedding that he was crazy to be getting married. IIRC, Valentine's Day never came up in the series.

Krawnprackers · 28/07/2023 16:05

Carrie and Miranda definitely went on a “galentines” date in a place FULL of balloons where I think they had an argument.

Krawnprackers · 28/07/2023 16:06

Ahh that may have been in the film you’re right..all blurs into one!

Ridemeginger · 28/07/2023 16:19

It was the film. 6 months after the wedding and Miranda's break up with Steve. Carrie is mad that she had been wracking her brains for 6 months trying to figure out what she did that gave Big cold feet, and Miranda had kept this info from her (to be fair, she's wanted to tell Carrie straight after the wedding, but Charlotte ut her off). Carrie then says she's never see anything that important from Miranda - but actually, she has been keeping something from her, and tells Miranda she made a big mistake not giving Steve another chance. This prompts Miranda to go to counselling with Steve.

@35965a you could quite honestly screenshot any comment and I could die laughing. I was literally crying in bed last night! I want to go out for a night on the town with these people!

Definitely 😁

I have a Valentine's Day anecdote which has nothing to do with AJLT but may amuse.

A few years ago, happily single and more than comfortable with my own company, I took myself out to dinner with my newspaper, ordered food and a glass of wine and read happily for a while.

Slowly, it dawned on me that every other table in the restaurant was occupied by couples, holding hands and looking lovingly into each others eyes.

Yes, it was Valentine's Day. I was the only one dining alone.

The waiter was so sorry for me that he actually gave me a present 😁

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/07/2023 17:01

I didn't even notice aidens jacket

Will have to rewatch

Is it really that bad 😂

IheartNiles · 28/07/2023 17:10

Aidan wouldn’t have worn that godawful mid life crisis Luftwaffe-esque jacket. He was a scruffy jeans, long hair, floppy shirt and turquoise rings guy.

He always left Carrie with the ick. Plus she broke his heart-twice- and it’s impossible to believe either of them would go back for more. The kiss with her wearing too much eyeliner in SATC film #2 while supposedly happily married to Big was improbable enough!

Can Anthony just have his own show please?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/07/2023 17:24

The jacket was AWFUL!

The first shot of him standing to attention or the come to daddy jazz hands one

There are too many main characters. 6 of them, maybe 7 if you include Anthony? It means most of their storylines are given zero room and their characters zero space to develop. What was the point of Seema and the law professor in this episode? Some of them have turned into women they would have despised in SATC days - obsessing over where to stay in the Hamptons. There is none of the New York grit which made the first one feel so grounded.

Totally agree. They've lost the unifying theme in the episode and there's now too many characters competing for attention in too short a space of time. They'd be better off doing an episode focusing on Charlotte and those closer to her, then Carrie then Miranda (would make it easier to avoid the Miranda episodes!). Or just put them in more situations where they're all together.

I would assume that part of the reason for introducing the new characters was to reduce the burden of shooting on the three leads, to fit around their schedules, but it's been done in a disjointed way.

NB this is not to suggest the newer characters should be downplayed or phased out - if anything I could do with less of the original three than the new characters.

tribpot · 28/07/2023 17:52

My favourite comment on Every Outfit (and I agree they are all superb) is "Looks like he got a job designing furniture on the Death Star"

Ridemeginger · 28/07/2023 17:53

The new characters are there to give the 3 core characters an ethnic minority friend, since SATC has had heavy retrospective criticism for being too white whilst set in an ethnically diverse city.

That too @Ridemeginger but to give the writers credit, they are giving the new characters more to do than just providing some diversity.

LTW and Herbert’s marriage is just great.

Loved when he told DS off about the closet.

NeedToThinkOfOne · 28/07/2023 18:09

Ha, great story @Needhelp101
