First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

@WhyDoesItAlways i agree

on Neighbours, Georgie Stone plays Mackenzie. Her first storyline was about people reacting to her being trans, but after that her character was treated exactly the same was as anyone else. She got to go to uni, had multiple boyfriends, got married and then became a widow. There were a few mentions of her being trans like when she was modelling and talked about how it was the first time in her life she felt beautiful which was poignant but the rest of the time, she had the same storylines and character development as literally anyone else. She was a great, well rounded character

but as you say, with Che, they never went beyond that. They were just hateful and spiteful and full lf their own self importance and being basically abusive to Miranda (the non consensual threesome should NEVER have been aired).

I also watched neighbours and agree about Mackenzie. I think I remember she also went through gender reassignment surgery but again, they didn't over ham it.

My other thing with Che is that she was supposedly sleeping around NY until she went monogamous with Miranda but now she seems like a lonely little lost puppy licking her wounds. Surely by now she would be back to her old ways?

Woo hoo! I finally caught up!

So annoyed at the last line from Carrie - and just like that, for the first time, I was worried or something.

seriously, sister? That’s the first time you were worried Aidan having three kids, one a 14 year old, might impact your life other than needing some fancy bedrooms for them?!

SheilaFentiman · 20/08/2023 21:48

I loved the Anthony/Carrie cosmo scene, though.

QueefofSheena · 20/08/2023 22:39

@Blondeshavemorefun yep, think there should have been a wall between the bedroom bit and the living area. The part by the door is presumably meant be entrance leading to a dining area. I'm waaaay too invested 🤣

Carrie should have kept her apartment for writing, like she had before. She learned nothing!

EachandEveryone · 20/08/2023 23:11

I was hoping she was just renting it out.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 20/08/2023 23:32

@thebellagio I'd never seen her in greys and still can't stand her in AJLT, so I'm not sure that's the reason the character is coming across so badly. She's just a massive narcissist and was absolutely vile to Miranda in that stand up routine. Cruel and unfunny. Yuck.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 20/08/2023 23:35

That scene between Carrie and Antony was just gorgeous. Whilst I think the storyline was a bit off, the wink and the long drink to Stanny felt very wholesome and authentic to me. I feel it was one of the best and most heartfelt scenes of either series.

I agree. You could see the tears in Anthony's eyes.

That's what bloody frustrates me about this show, just occasionally there's something really wonderful (I thought the scene between Carrie and Natasha in Season 1 was fantastic) but the gems are buried in a sea of shit!

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2023 15:18

Che was cruel but I don’t think they were unfunny. It’s not dissimilar to Mrs. Maisel disparaging Joel - I think Che was looking at Cheryl stand up and was driven to write a “bad date” set. Che did not expect Miranda to hear and they were -apparently - going to deprecate themselves as well.

I don’t like Che but the set wasn’t out of whack for stand up as shown on tv.

tribpot · 21/08/2023 16:50

I agree in one sense @SheilaFentiman - it's one of the perils of dating a stand-up that they mine their own lives for jokes (see also: Hacks). However, Che's jokes weren't actually funny - which has been the central problem with her character throughout.

thebellagio · 21/08/2023 17:04

Her jokes weren't lined with humour, they were lined with nastiness.

It's the equivalent of laughing AT someone, not WITH someone

I just find it remarkable that the writers have been so unbearably arrogant that they didn't think to write for a stand-up comic set, that they should get an actual stand up comedian to write them. Surely there's enough comedy writers for them to be able to do that??

Like @Needhelp101 says, there's some real gems of beauty in here, but it's then bashed down by the shite!

But saying that, I do genuinely think the show has got better as it's gone on

ASoapImpressionOfHisWifeWhichHeAte · 21/08/2023 17:06

I'm new here but I do lurk to read all of your comments- often to have a laugh.

I am hating this series but am weirdly compelled to keep watching. The Carrie/Aiden thing is so odd- it's like Big is the elephant in the room but they haven't mentioned it... I mean, come on. You'd have a conversation. And there was no tension and now there's weird tension about his kids? It's a very weird story arc.

I agree, the Aidan progression is madness. If JC isn't going to arrive until the last 3 (?) episodes, then 75% of the time of the episodes should be about him and Carrie. He was Mr Commitment, would he really even think of spending half his time in New York if his kids weren't OK with it? Which isn't going to happen in a few months.

Fair point!

Lentilweaver · 21/08/2023 17:17

Just caught up. How stupid is Carrie to sell her apartment after one week ( I think) with Aiden? Or rent Che's horrible apartment?Aiden is annoying me too with his tighty whities and weeping and refusal to go into Carrie's apartment. What a baby. He is going to dump Carrie for his kids.

Finally Miranda realises what a horrible person Che is.

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2023 17:39

The stand-up who called Aidan 'Country Lurch' - whoever wrote that line should have written for Che - mean, but true, and funny!

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2023 17:41

I think it has been way more than a week - time moves fast in AJLT but they had the Valentine's date, then lots of hotel dates, then enough time at Che's to buy a kitchen worth of stuff, plus her going to Norfolk, Aidan meeting her friends, Carrie meeting his ex etc.

Lentilweaver · 21/08/2023 17:47

Still a silly decision on Carrie's part when she loves her apartment so much. Aiden is going to choose his horrible teen over Carrie.

This show is a great contraceptive. Literally all the kids are so incredibly horrible.

Perhaps mean of me, but Charlotte's boss does not look like a gallerist at all?

Ridemeginger · 21/08/2023 17:50

In the previous episode 9, Miranda was chosen to take over as maternity cover for her boss, who returned after 5 weeks, so I reckon Aiden and Carrie have been seeing each other for at least 2-3 months in all. It looked like Spring weather on Coney Island.

Lentilweaver · 21/08/2023 17:53

They all seem to be killing it at work after doing nothing for ages, no? How has Charlotte been transformed into a sharp salesperson after years of hanging around waiting for Harry to jizz on her or stalking her kids?

You know, I thought the same. Not about her weight, but her clothes are really not very nice or classy (even your flattest midriff should be kept covered up around sophisticated clientele); and her behaviour - curtseying to Sam Smith, for heaven's sake! You'd expect more decorum from staff in a top flight gallery.

Lentilweaver · 21/08/2023 17:57

Overweight is fine. But is exposing your midriff daily the right thing to do? Unless you are wearing a sari like Seema!

I think Charlotte mentioned she'd been volunteering in galleries. And in season 1 at Lisa's dinner party, clearly still had indepth knowledge of hot new artists and what were good art investments. So I don't find her killing it at work so hard to believe. Plus, as an older person, giving fewer fucks about what people think, and knowing you don't need this job, helps with confidence.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/08/2023 18:00

Carrie wouid have been better to rent her apartment rather then sell it
