First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

The bit I didn’t get about lily was that god awful song about how awful it is for her to be privileged. Which they’ve done nothing with.

she’s grown up on the upper east side ffs. I’m not expecting her to be gossip girl but that’s the world she inhabits. If they are leaning into the storyline then actually do it…

similarly to rocks comment of “wow this is what it feels like to be the good kid for a change”

what did that mean? Where did that come from? What was that back story? Cos all I’ve seen is Charlotte and Harry bend over backwards to do whatever rock wants

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 23/07/2023 10:44

I'm still hate watching but this episode was marginally better. Marginally. Miranda is a completely different person and Charlotte is a caricature of her former self, no idea why Kristin Davis is now playing her like that.

I wish they had taken on board all the comments after S1 but they really really haven't.

TomAllenWife · 23/07/2023 10:50

Just place marking

Ridemeginger · 23/07/2023 10:51

I think Lily has probably been viewed as "the. good kid" because of her musical prowess (and probably her academic prowess too). There's no indication that Rose/Rock has had a similar opportunity to learn music or any other particular skill, or has any great expectations on her shoulders. Perhaps Charlotte and Harry's idea of giving Lily an upbringing in line with her cultural heritage is through tiger parenting her. Charlotte lost her mind over Lily's Chanel dress being sold, but barely batted an eyelid over the artist formerly known as Rose's entire wardrobe having to be replaced with "boy" clothes. They seem to be treated quite differently. Now Rock is in the limelight for something she hasn't had to work at - she just happened to be around when a modelling scout appeared. I bet Lily is pissed off with this. She's still totally spoiled though, they both are, and have zero self awareness about their privilege. Thank you Anthony for telling Lily to go to Shake Shack for her date like a normal teenager!

That's what I thought about Charlotte. Some sort of parody or caricature with the mannerisms acting. I looked at an old clip and she doesn't sound that bad.

Some of the best acting, in my opinion, is from Seema and Carrie.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 23/07/2023 12:13

She's playing her like a brunette bimbo, all stupid expressions (when she can move her face) and head tilts. Charlotte managed a gallery and was ruthless in getting Trey's family apartment even though she had only been married to him for five minutes, so she wasn't daft. It's really annoying!

KillingMeDeftly · 23/07/2023 13:01

I suspect (hope!) we're going to see Charlotte take up Victor Garber's offer to work in his gallery.

As a side note, I loved the wooden light fitting in Steve and Miranda’s house - like a huge wooden acorn, wonder where I can get one?

I think it’s a Pinecone light from memory. I’ve seen eye wateringly expensive ones and one for around £50 on Amazon

dayswithaY · 23/07/2023 23:03

Thanks Queef I’ll take a look.

This season is getting easier to watch as it goes on.

They seem to be making Seema Samantha, with the penis pump story etc.

There's not much talk of the menopause though? Are they supposed to be well passed that? I'm trying to work out their ages- Charlotte was 34 in s3 so 57 now? Are they all the same age?

I suppose at 57 you don't need contraception anymore which is probably why Carries face at the condom question. That could be a plot line, older STDs because they don't use condoms.

Carrie used a diaphragm when she was with big. Do they even exist anymore??

Netaporter · 24/07/2023 09:19

@heartofglass23 the menopause was mentioned quite a lot in s1 when Charlotte was a bit smug about it. And in SATC when Samantha went through it prematurely after chemo….I’m in the menopause and thoroughly bored of hearing about it (as I expected most of the original fans are!) so I can imagine if you are not, it must be a bit tedious (not as tedious as the special Che non-binary storyline mind you 🙄). For me, The show is about escapism, not reality. More duvet coats and less ‘there are no loo rolls left in the corner shop’ for me please 😂

They mentioned menopause I think back in season 1 or early season 2 as it seems Carrie and Miranda have been through it but we're surprised Charlotte hadn't. I've just watched the SATC episode where they go to Atlantic city for Charlotte's birthday and I if I remember correctly they mentioned her being the youngest of the 4.

Netaporter · 24/07/2023 09:21

@heartofglass23 i agree the no condom thing was a bit odd tho unless Carrie is going to be a later-life visitor to the clap clinic….

NeedToThinkOfOne · 24/07/2023 13:16

I saw a random episode recently where Miranda is late thirties and mentions to her date about freezing her eggs due to having only one ovary. Think it’s season2. One of the episodes in 2 says ‘Miranda breaks up with the bartender’ that’s Steve without a name for their first get together. So if we’re working on real time that would put Miranda at 60 already? Mortgage would be paid off long ago if I’m overthinking that too Samantha was the oldest, then Miranda I think?

Ridemeginger · 24/07/2023 14:12

The last series was in 2003/4, the younger 3 were all 38 (as discussed between Charlotte and Carrie and whether the latter was willing to give up having children for Petrovsky), and Samantha was “Forty fucking five, I have nothing to hide!”. Spoiler for the next episode, but Miranda is discussing with Carrie that they are both 56 and dating. The complete mystery is how Lily has gone from being born in 2003 or 2004 and ending up as 16ish now and only just through puberty, when she should be 19 and Brady more like 20/21.

NeedToThinkOfOne · 24/07/2023 16:41

Ha, yes, creative licence on that one as well as shaving a couple of years off their own screen ages- both would be more than 56! Not that it matters, of course, unless they’re dating a much younger woman who isn’t as mature as them and it catches up.

ReeseWitherfork · 24/07/2023 16:46

I suspect the discrepancy on the ages wouldn’t have mattered as much if it hadn’t been for Covid. They probably had some of the storylines in mind before they had to be specific with dates because of the pandemic. And lest we forget, they developed SATC in a world before fanbases obsessed over specific details online. I recall a simpler time when we just went along with things and forgot about some of the details.

To all those asking how Brady can work in a bar if underage...@dayswithaY

In the US if your parents own an establishment such as a bar/restaurant/liquor store/casino (anywhere that you have to be over 21) you can work in it underage because it's a family business.

user1471543094 · 25/07/2023 11:54

Also warming to it, but a few bug bears still re Miranda:

  1. Why was she shopping for a second hand bed? I mean she is hardly on the breadline - in her 50s and a highly successful legal career and she is buying a bed in what seemed to be a second hand store?
  2. I understand that they were trying to portray that she was travelling back and forth to Brooklyn to alleviate her guilt....but why are they making out like she was some stay at home mother? Again, she had a high powered career - she had Magda years ago! Whats with the back home to do laundry and make breakfast? She probably hasn't done stuff like that in years! Even when she was in LA with Che she was just some lost little travelling partner with no purpose. Miranda from SATC would never have just sat around doing nothing and she certainly wouldn't have been concerning herself with coming home to do laundry.

I keep forgetting Brady is underage, probably because the actor is pushing 30 and looks it!

aqiarious · 25/07/2023 12:09

I think I've caught up now. I enjoyed the last couple of episodes in places.

Agree with posters about Miranda and the second hand bed, and doing the laundry.

Miranda is still intensely irritating (character changes and becoming bumbling with tech, at the pilot was a particularly low point) and I actually prefer Che, who is better without her.

Charlotte needs to calm down the overacting. She's terrible at times. She reminds me of a poor version of Rose from the Golden Girls.

heartofglass23 · 25/07/2023 18:58

Re: the characters' ages.

I'm on SATC mid s2 and Carrie says Miranda is 'only 33'. It was aired in 1999 so she'd be 57 now.

Netaporter · 26/07/2023 09:26

Trailer for tomorrow’s episode looks very Anthony- centric! Yay!

Netaporter · 26/07/2023 09:27

@heartofglass23 the trailer also shows Miranda declaring that she and Carrie are 56 so not far out!
