Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

I really enjoyed this weeks episode. For the first time, it was as if they'd captured some of the old magic. Had they got a different writing team?

Highlights

  • Carries coat. Absolutely fucking batshit. But 100% carrie bradshaw.
  • Loved how she completely blanked on her old writing partner - although never thought of Carrie as a screenwriter, so that was a bit of an odd backstory.
  • The organic thought about Aiden - like a PP said, I like the callback to SATC when Aiden helped her get a new laptop. That was a nice touch.
  • Also liked the call back to Trey - would love to see where he is now.
  • LTW has now won me over. Shes just fabulous. To me, the difference in this episode was her speech talking about black women needing to know that they can go and do it, they shouldn't be held back. It was beautifully written, and for the first time in the entire series, it was an example of how they CAN touch on key social issues without using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. To see Herbert walk in and support his wife was excellent.
  • Charlotte looking for a condom was batshit but I enjoyed it.
  • I was SCREAMING at Steve when he let rip. Finally!!!! I was so happy to see him give Miranda what for. Although I find it odd that 25 years on since buying the house, he never had his name on the mortgage. Also, how they do they even have a mortgage left? Surely even without Miranda's megabucks career, they would be near to the end of the term.
  • How can Brady work in the bar if he's 18/19? Only last week he said he wasn't going to college, so he's definitely underage.
  • Miranda yelling at Che - finally, a glimpse of the old Miranda.
  • This was the first time I actually saw a human side of Che. To see them making an effort to support Carrie was the literal first time we saw Che doing something not totally selfish and narcisstic

Bad points

  • Che turning over in bed and then start doing Cameo videos? WTF? So selfish - why wouldn't Che just do that in the living room?
  • I wish Miranda had dumped Che, not the other way around. I'm assuming thats the end of the character? What use is there for them now? No longer Carries' podcast co-host, nor are they connected to anyone else?

I’m clearly overly invested 😳

I thought Carries snow coat was ICONIC! ❤️I loved her last snow outfit ( when she dashed through a storm to get to Miranda on NYE) with that little sequinned beanie hat. But this was something else! I actually rewound it a few times to really take it in. Don't care where or how she stores it! I love it and I want one ❤️

NeedToThinkOfOne · 21/07/2023 12:17

@LittleBearPad over invested or just hanging out with your people? I love that you checked the detail☺️

Also, why is Che moping about so much, and why can't she return to stand up? Does she not understand how the industry works? Hundreds of pilots are made every year, only a tiny number go anywhere. Most big TV stars have had pilots that bombed, they just keep on trying. She wasn't even happy with her pilot, as it was depicting her as someone she didn't believe in. And she's not even an actor, so it's not as if this was all she was about anyway. All this "my life is over" stuff from an already very successful (in her industry - comedy) woman in her late 40s is not particularly ingratiating.

Ah but it's not just a pilot is it? It's a rejection of Che's super interesting important and special non binary identity! So much more important than just a pilot!

I think Che is here to stay. I think that's why they put in that whole thing about breaking up while they can still be friends. And also why carrie called her to go to widowcon - to remind us that it was Carrie that introduced her not Miranda. If I wanted someone for moral support at widowcon I would have chosen Miranda 1.0 or Charlotte, not Che.

paranoidnamechanger · 21/07/2023 13:03

Yeah, the dreaded Che is here to stay. After all the justifications MPK has done about the character, he won’t be dumping them now with five more episodes to go.

Only Carrie Bradshaws can get away with this. Mere mortals need not apply..

Sarvanga38 · 21/07/2023 14:01

I can't get on board with the snow duvet. Check coat and outfits from last week were fabulous though, some fabulous fashion and SJP showing how to age gracefully.

I really feel this is beginning to find its feet now and hope it continues. Really enjoyed this week's episode.

How I ever got past watching that first episode of season one is beyond me though, some of the worst TV I have ever seen. Just shows how invested we all were in SATC that anyone is still watching to season two really.

Ridemeginger · 21/07/2023 16:35

Just seen the promo for episode 7. Looks like there will be some interesting developments.

Sarvanga38 · 21/07/2023 17:58

I have to say, it's really bugging me that Charlotte has Bulldogs now - it seems to very unlikely for her. What happened to the CKCS that were far more likely for that character?

Ridemeginger · 21/07/2023 18:18

Is there any chance her current bulldog could be a cross, and one of Elizabeth Taylor's offspring from the post dog show gang bang? How old do they get?

memoriesofamiga · 21/07/2023 19:24

Steve said that Brady was working in the bar, he didn't say he was bartending. So I can only assume he's doing jobs that don't require you to be 18, like cleaning tables?

With Che's moping around, they're such a narcissist clearly they can't handle the rejection of the pilot. Narcs can only exist with nothing but pure adoration around them.

I'm One of the few who is actually
Enjoying this series 😁

It's obvious aiden will be coming back in as a possible love interest after her email

i’m enjoying it too! I think this series is much stronger than the first, the new characters are better integrated. I even think Che is more likeable, they have a good dynamic with Carrie. It’s maybe a shame Che wasn’t just another friend introduced to the group by Carrie - in lots of ways I can see more chemistry between Miranda and Nya if they wanted a storyline with Miranda exploring her sexuality

TrulyFlumptious · 21/07/2023 21:28

The Artist Formally Known as Miranda still acting completely out of character.

Throwing herself on the floor like a toddler and crying, screaming, throwing up because Steve told her a few home truths. OG Miranda would NEVER. She would have either argued back, or accepted his criticisms as valid.

I don’t know why, but I found that scene more jarring than any of the Che stuff. It was so far away from Miranda.

There was a lot of truth in what he said and it was devastating. Who wants to be reminded they wanted to abort their son?

ElizabethVonArnim · 22/07/2023 12:57

Really enjoyed this one - getting back into form. I liked LTW's snow outfit - she looked like a mediaeval plague doctor, but in a good way.

Ridemeginger · 22/07/2023 12:57

Did Steve know about the considered abortion? I thought Miranda only told him she was pregnant after she decided to keep the baby - there was all that stuff about Aiden having to keep the pregnancy news from him after Carrie told him and swore him to secrecy. She told Steve in the following episode, where Aiden proposes to Carrie, and Steve tries to propose to Miranda with the pear shaped diamond cast off ring.

Even if Miranda told Steve at some later point that she did consider abortion, at the time she booked the clinic, she didn't discuss this with him or put him in a position where he felt he needed to talk her out of it; and she agonised over it, didn't go through with it, and turned her life upside down to become a mother. At the point Steve found out about the pregnancy, she was very firmly keeping the baby, and he had the option whether to be involved or not. So I think it is actually really shitty of him to throw that one at her. I think he probably has some valid argument that she never really wanted the relationship with Steve and she certainly didn't want the Brooklyn move, but I don't think he has the right to say she "never" wanted Brady - he doesn't have the frame of reference to make that remark, because he doesn't know what she went through.

Andylion · 22/07/2023 15:08

I don't think he has the right to say she "never" wanted Brady

I agree. That “never” in regards to Brady was completely off, and I was surprised that Steve said it.

He probably said something he didn't really mean while losing his temper. It's not surprising he was driven to absolutely raging.

TeaPleaseTa · 22/07/2023 22:39

Like most others I was pleasantly surprised by this episode.
Lots of highlights, first and foremost Steve. At last. Secondly the mad puffa coat (and two if not three references in the script/music to Frozen). Thirdly Che actually turning up to help someone else out.
I always liked Aidan so looking forward to his reply to the email!

Xtraincome · 22/07/2023 22:55

This season is way better than the first. I find Charlotte's kids have the most pointless storylines.

I actually like Che, clearly one of the few who do. They are still far less narcissistic than Carrie has been throughout SATC. Definitely toned Carrie's toxic traits down considerably for AJLT.

Loved the duvet coat! The fashion is amazing as always.

TennisWithDeborah · 23/07/2023 01:02

Enjoying this.

SJP is a very good actor, loads of nuance.

Anthony is brilliant. Sharp and witty.

Enid and Bitsy. Great to see these characters again. They’re as you imagined they’d be, twenty years on.

Gloria Steinem’s fabulous cameo.

Nya, Lisa and Seema are strong additions to the cast.

Samantha was my least favourite main character (KC is a wonderful actor though) so am not particularly missing her.

Loved Charlotte and Harry as The Americans. That show provided Karen Pittman (Nya) with her first big role too, as the factory worker who was befriended by Elizabeth Jennings.

I dislike the way they’ve eviscerated Miranda with all that Che nonsense but I found her scene with Steve very powerful.

KillingMeDeftly · 23/07/2023 07:40

I find Charlotte's kids have the most pointless storylines.

I agree. They could've gone with exploring the issues that come with interracial adoption and Lily realising that her white family, as far as we can see, have made no attempt to help her explore her cultural heritage. But no, she gets storylines about using tampons and losing her virginity instead. And Rock could've been a GNC girl but no, she has to be non-binary if she's not interested in the "girlie" stuff her mother likes.
