Oh yikes, let’s hope not - a real life Che Pasa!
i don’t think the role has done Sara Ramirez’s career any favours, and I don’t think continuing to play her is a great move for whatever statement she is trying to make in her real life about identity. Che seems to be universally despised, even with the attempted kitten led rehabilitation. I really don’t get what the writers were thinking with the last episode, making Che just hateful again, after weeks of trying to get everyone’s sympathy.
I have been waiting for more of a back story about all the stuff Che claims she went through. But all they keep coming back to is her having been a slightly overweight woman, and that’s the sum of her trauma and the basis of her escape into an NB identity. Seriously, who gives a fuck about that? She’s no different to half the women in the world. She managed to snag a hot (and seemingly devoted) husband whilst a bigger woman, and shag half of NY (by her own bragging admission) off the back of cutting her hair, shortening her name, buying different clothes and forcing her “I am sooo speshul” pronouns on everyone. Not to mention the stand up career, Netflix special and tailor made pilot, opportunities a minuscule population of people in her industry get to enjoy. Where is the trauma? Where is the struggle? There isn’t any, there’s just a big pity party anytime the world doesn’t see her on her self constructed pedestal made of playing cards.
And the whole attack on Miranda was utterly horrific. Even in the name of comedy. Didn’t Che pursue Miranda in the first place? Whilst Miranda may have felt attracted to Che as a personality, I doubt hitherto straight Miranda would have pursued the sexual angle without Che initiating it - she just didn’t have the bandwidth to go there without significant assistance. So for Che to then talk about Miranda as if Che was preyed upon by some sort of LGBT cos playing straight woman is utterly disingenuous and disrespectful. And to then have a go at Miranda’s family too - how exactly did they impact Che? Not one bit, just 5 minutes of self righteous indignation from Che, because Che thought Miranda was in an open marriage - ie Che pursued Miranda believing her to come with the baggage she later complains about. And conveniently and hypocritically forgetting her own baggage - her husband who she never got round to divorcing- whom she doesn’t bother telling Miranda about, and was quite happy more or less trying to sexually assault Miranda in a non consensual threesome.
So no, I hope Che is consigned to the bin of TV history, she is a massive bore and a despicable human being, who has played a big part in ruining a beloved franchise.
Rant over!!
