First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

Is Charlotte trying to compensate for what she perceives to be a large arse with the enormous sleeves? (I stress that I would be extraordinarily happy if my arse looked like Charlotte's). She did look much better in the brunch scene.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 17/08/2023 19:23

Jesus, ole straight line for a mouth guy really can't cry can he? That was PAINFUL to watch!! Who'd have thought the guy screaming on the steps at Carrie... 'you BROKE my HEART!!' would be such a rubbish crier??
Those kids are absolutely vile and I hate them. Straight into the bin with them please.
I agree with pp. The scene with Carrie and Antony was beautiful in a way but also struck me as kind of odd at the same time? I mean.. the poor guy died and they're talking about him being a monk in Tokyo? Seems pretty random.
The ladies on the Every Outfit pod seem to think the Last Supper episode will bring everything to a close and there will be no more AJLT. I wonder if they're right....

Barold · 17/08/2023 19:48

Honestly, Carrie can just fuck right off with her whole ‘Miranda, we’re not in high school - you need to just get over Che pissing all over your relationship with them and humiliating you onstage and come to the dinner that they’re obviously still invited to despite being absolutely terrible’ thing. So cunty.

Loved drunk Charlotte and her pink brunch outfit was the best she’s looked in ages. Her kids continue to be ridiculous.

I laughed at the bit in the E11 teaser where Harry wakes her because Anthony needs to talk about losing his arse virginity.

The Seema ‘I love you’ thing seems exactly like Samantha and Richard…I’m assuming they’re going to take it in a different direction but still…

Not much to say about the Stanford, LTW or Nya stuff.

Aiden crying…well it’s been said. With JC’s lipless, straight line mouth he reminds me of a South Park character. But hey, it got him Bo Derek so what do I know.

<Dons hard hat>

I have to say, as much as Samantha was my favourite, I really don’t need her to come back now. I feel like the story has moved on.

tribpot · 17/08/2023 19:57

I actually agree @Barold . I'm so glad for KC that she avoided this whole fiasco but now more than ever it makes no sense for there to be a Samantha cameo. Almost nothing has been leading up to this (not that any plot point in AJLT lasts for more than about 10 mins anyway) and it comes across as something the network shoehorned in to get some buzz for AJLT after the atrocious first series. I hope it is the last ever episode and Samantha gets the last word. (I would then like a couple of spin offs with select cast members and different writers).

I liked Carrie standing up to Miranda for once, she and Charlotte have inexplicably let her away with way too much over the last few years. But I do agree, why Carrie feels any loyalty to Che, who is a recent work colleague, over a friend of 25 years' standing, is beyond me.

I think she's quite short in the torso, and her waist has thickened a bit, making. her boy around the middle, so they are accentuating the top with the crazy sleeves to create an illusion of a slimmer midline. She can't be more than a UK 8 though, and. she looks much better in simpler styles, so I wish they would stick with that.

Barold · 17/08/2023 20:03

See I don’t recognise this at all for Carrie or Miranda. Maybe with Charlotte on occasion but Carrie has been just as bad to her even as recently as S1 of AJLT.

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 20:06

I think Carrie is being incredibly disloyal to Miranda, and such a hypocrite. She couldn't stand the thought of Natasha or Nina Katz thinking or speaking badly of her post the Big affair/Aiden Part 2. How would she like one. of her ex's doing a stand up set about how bad in bed she is, and all the baggage she brought to the relationship.

I just don't understand why Che is starting from rock bottom again after having a Netflix special and being popular enough to warrant a pilot. Pilots are made and don't get developed all the time. It doesn't render the star - apparently. THE hot property in comedy - null and void. The wider public never got to see it in order to think badly of her, so why wouldn't her existing fan base be enough for her to slot in right where she left off?

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 20:12

Also, Che's set about Miranda was total hypocrisy, since at some point, Che identified as a woman and was married to a man, and would have been in the exact same position as Miranda, exploring sex with other women for the first time, and bringing her husband baggage with her - as she did with Miranda in that horrible scene in her new NY apartment.

BMW6 · 17/08/2023 20:34

Well I thought I was going to die laughing at Sam Smiths appearance with his equally ludicrous chum!

Shark properly jumped

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 17/08/2023 20:40

My main takeaway from this episode so far (admittedly only 10 mins in) is that I didn't realise Sam Smith was actually an internationally famous person. I thought he was just a person who was mildly known in England and I didn't even recognise him until they said his name, I thought he was just not a very good actor playing a pretentious art buyer.

CheeseMuffin · 17/08/2023 20:44

He looked like Mr Blobby.

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 17/08/2023 21:00

The dialogue between the female characters at brunch and again with the art gallery ladies, feels very odd... like they got a computer to read a load of twitter posts and write a script there's so much weird social media talk and slang.

WeetabixTowels · 17/08/2023 21:22

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 15:10

Loved seeing Steve happy, and Brady actually looking genuinely happy too.

Wyatt: Aiden and Cathy need to watch We Need To Talk About Kevin, and lock all sharp farm tools beyond his reach.

Che. Or should that be Cheryl? Her brand of comedy seems to be nothing more than making fun of straight people, and mostly women, and mostly white. She's the "NB" Jim Davidson. Please fuck off to the far side of fuck, you untalented POS. So glad Miranda has seen the real her, and what an utter bitch she is. Che's self pitying "so tired of explaining meeeeee" bullshit is wearing pretty thin - what has you identity got to do with the level of cruelty you were aiming at someone who loved you and turned her world upside down for you? Why is it ok for you to crack jokes about age, race and sexuality, but get mightily offended when someone doesn't get you pretentious pronouns right? She clearly wasn't ever funny - and what a cliche that when she identified as a woman, all she had to joke about was her weight. Because of course that's all us silly women care about, unlike the cool NBs. Please can they just bin her for the next series, please!!!

Sam Smith. You. can join Che in the far side of fuck. Take the Toby twat with you.

Loved the cameo from Dolly Wells as Joy, the lawyer Miranda was with at the UN. For those who don't know her, she's in the. comedy, Doll & Em, was in the film "Can You Ever Forgive Me" with Melissa McCarthy, and was the model who had had plastic surgery, who Roy tries to get off with in The IT Crowd.

Charlotte telling her odious children to bog off. Yeeesssss!! I don't understand why Harry is being such a twat though. Come on, Harry, you were never a sexist dinosaur, teach your daughters that they can cope on their own for a few bloody hours; and to think next time they rudely tell Charlotte to butt out of their business, because she might just do that from now on.

Good for Nya for taking the high road on her ex and his baby mama.

Seema: I think she's going to end up getting hurt. Shades of Samantha and Richard Wright with Seema and Ravi.

Poor Lisa. Bit of a pointless storyline, this short lived pregnancy. Was it in order to give the writers the chance to say they are all in favour of a woman's right to choose, without having the thorny issue of actually showing a woman going to get an abortion?

Stanford: Very odd turn of events with him becoming a monk, but I think this is their way of sending him, and Willy Garson, to heaven, in peace love and harmony. I actually thought it was a lovely scene.

Anthony: TMI.

Aiden crying: So funny! Someone needs to book him a plane ticket to the UK. The Egremont Crab Apple Fair, Cumbria, is the venue of the World Gurning Championships. He stands an excellent chance of placing in the top 3.

Fashion highlights:

Pink sequin Fendi baguette: oh yes!
Carrie's whole outfit in the final scene.
Charlotte's pink dress and sleek hair at brunch: she looked lovely! Please stop dressing her in the crazy sleeves, and put her in these types of sleek outfits. The pouffy sleeves just accentuate the pouffy face lift.
Miranda's stripy jump suit at brunch. She's looking super chic since returning to work.
Carrie's yellow, quilt cape/coat with the big sleeves.
Lisa's blue outfit.

Excellent post!!!

dayswithaY · 17/08/2023 21:33

Does anyone remember the Fat Slags cartoon characters from Viz magazine - that’s the image that popped into my head when Sam Smith and mate appeared on screen.

Seema saying I love you to a man we barely know or care about seemed like a convenient way to get her a happy ever after before the season ends.

Miranda is obviously going to find love with English lady from the UN - otherwise what was the point of the cameo?

The scene about Stanford the monk seemed very forced and completely out of place - weird, why bother at all?

Way, way too much personal information from Anthony.

Aidan crying - I have no words. He’s going to choose his kids over Carrie and she will be consoled by Samantha and the new kitten that Che dumped on her.

Good riddance to the giant forehead country bumpkin bore in white waist high pants.

indyocean · 17/08/2023 21:34

So Aiden's eldest son is 20 but Brady's only 18

How's that possible

GellerYeller · 17/08/2023 21:35

I think Sam Smith won the Oscar for the Bond theme so you’d think the Americans would be aware of them. But that cameo had shades of Geri Halliwell being shoe horned in for no good reason. The episode when Samantha was at Soho House being Annabelle Bronstein.
Thinking of that reminds me the comedy was so good in SATC.

GellerYeller · 17/08/2023 21:36

Also: ‘Steve isn’t cast as a twat’. 😂 Bravo.

WeetabixTowels · 17/08/2023 21:39

So…

Things I loved:
Charlotte’s pink dress at brunch and all the fashion. Seema’s full length leopard print - wow! Fashiob been on point this season.

Coney Island! And Happy Steve - he so is hot dogs and clams.

The gay sex discussion. I have a gay friend who has never received anal sex and apparently it IS a thing with men of a certain age - I’ve never seen it touched upon before in a TV show.

Aidan owning his part in the breakdown of his relationship with Carrie. About time - he REALLY pushed her when she wasn’t ready.

Charlotte standing up to her awful hideous brats. This is the second episode where her kids have called her ‘gross’ for doing things that are very un-gross and normal. Why isn’t Harry saying something to them about how rude they are? As for the notebook - if you are in secondary school, if you forget it then tough shit. The fact she phoned her mum at work shows how much of a self centred brat Rock is.

Hated:

Che. All of that awful POS excuse for a human. Now as much as I think Miranda has behaved like a total cunt in AJLT, that really wasn’t deserved. She didn’t do anything wrong to Che! And for Che to not even apologise and say “that’s comedy” then complain that no one understand her special amazing wonderful identity was the height of pathetic narcissism. All the kittens in the world couldn’t make them likeable.

The in-your-face wokeness that we had to endure in season 1. We get it. Some comedians have special identities and can’t crack a joke about anything else. It’s never, ever funny.

Goofy Aidan. Is John Corbett micro-dosing or something? Why is he behaving like that, doing the chicken impressions etc? The Carrie we know and hate would absolutely loathe that.

Crying Aidan. I confess I pissed myself laughing. Also the story of Wyatt is just plain weird. He got drunk drive a truck and broke both legs and a collar bone - it’s a bit of a lazy storyline like it’s been concocted by a year 8 group as part of a storytelling assignment.

Sam Smith. Twat.

Charlotte’s kids again - please ship them off to boarding school. Brats.

Also: ‘Steve isn’t cast as a twat’. 😂 Bravo.

That scene with the 3 of them just sitting around having a beer was one of the most organic of the 2 seasons.
It felt like friends just chatting and was really refreshing.

WeetabixTowels · 17/08/2023 21:53

Also hated the Stanford story. Poor Willie Garson. What a shit show ending for him

Netaporter · 17/08/2023 22:06

@tribpot i’d be inclined to agree with you until I watched ‘Glamorous’ a show so bad it makes ‘Emily in Paris’ look cerebral. I was thinking WTF KC. And then I had the misfortune of watching ‘About my Father ’ on the plane. Starring Bob De Niro and KC alongside ‘Karl from succession’ (who ultimately plays the same character) however it is a film which takes on a rating beyond ‘stinker’.

After watching both I concluded that KC could not possibly have not taken the AJLT gig for ‘artistic difference’ reasons given they were both devoid of artistic merit. Truly awful.

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 22:06

Listened to a bit of The Writer’s Room podcast. The Steve/Coney Island storyline was suggested by David Eigenberg himself. It’s somewhere he spent a lot of time as a boy. Thought that was very sweet.

Figgygal · 17/08/2023 22:21

Charlotte is looking less puffy in the this week
I think the best thing this week was someone upthread saying Jc looks like a south park character - I guffawed

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 22:38

@WeetabixTowels Good points about Aiden. Yes wtf was that chicken dance he did?! He’s behaving like Goofy the dog in human form or something. Between that sort of behaviour and the giant tighty whities, my undercarriage would be bone dry. However, I agree, it’s about bloody time he acknowledged that he pushed Carrie too hard with the marriage stuff. I thought he became borderline abusive second time round.

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 22:43

I think Samantha’s appearance is going to be a damp squib, sadly. The most they can do is imply she’s arrived in NY, and is on the way to Carrie’s for the Last Supper.
