Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

There's also a documentary series about the opoid scandal on Sky Documentaries called Crime Of The Century (that I'm recording - need more hours in the day to watch all this stuff!). It's by Alex Gibney who is an Oscar winning. documentary maker (and I think I have seen his name in the credits of Painkiller).

GellerYeller · 16/08/2023 23:40

@Ridemeginger I am sorry 💐. Loving your geeked out connections. Now I’m racking my brains as to the friend in Ferris Bueller and what we saw him in recently. I think MB is fantastic too.

Ridemeginger · 16/08/2023 23:45

Thank you @GellerYeller Tis life. Sometimes you just have to laugh.

Alan Ruck? Perhaps in Succession?

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 00:02

I'm hoping MB is a bit less of a malevolent looking Humpty Dumpty in real life than he is in Painkiller! Have to say, I always thought he and SJP to be a slightly odd match, but they've had a long marriage by Hollywood standards, and look super happy and adorable in pictures. I wonder if their kids will follow in their footsteps and become nepo stars - their eldest must be the same age as Aiden's eldest and Brady are supposed to be 😂I thought West Duchovny was a bit unconvincing in Painkiller - but there's another 6 degrees of separation with SATC, what with her dad, David, playing Carrie's high school bf.

GellerYeller · 17/08/2023 00:36

@Ridemeginger yes! Succession! That’s it.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 17/08/2023 03:58

@Ridemeginger loving all this info, especially at 4 am when I can't sleep! I had no idea West Duchovny is David's daughter ( nepo alive and kicking as always.) I thought she did a good job actually. Completely agree about SJP and MB seeming to be a bit of a mismatch especially compared to her previous relationships like ( in another lifetime it seems like) 'bad boy' RDJ. Agree they seem absolutely devoted to each other. I get such a warm fuzzy feeling watching Ferris Bueller. It's a family classic in our house. I think MB is a great comic actor ( love him in Deck the Halls with DDV, another family favourite over here.) Just twigged the actor playing his friend and the Succession link. God I loved that show!!

Mistressofnone · 17/08/2023 06:50

I was also a little disappointed we didn't get to see Carrie meet the Shaw boys and Cathy - that's what we were all gearing up to. I suppose in real life it would be a fairly uneventful meet and they are saving the juicy stuff. Felt the same that we didn't get to see Miranda & Charlotte's reaction to meeting Aiden for the first time in years.

Enjoyed Miranda this episode though!

I don't know if it has been mentioned upthread but was fun to see Ryan Serhart from Million Dollar Listing (the original Selling Sunset set in New York) team up with Seema.

Mistressofnone · 17/08/2023 07:19

Ah Netaporter clocked the Ryan cameo already! Was quite impressed with his acting.

@dayswithaY "The horror show that is Aidan just gets worse. Did you notice his little old man legs as he struggled to bend down?"

Yes! I can't stop noticing his skinny slightly saggy legs and arms, I guess from quick weight loss. He had such a great build in Season 4. I know there's no shame in ageing but at least buy some flattering pants.

EachandEveryone · 17/08/2023 09:53

I can’t believe Carrie would put up with those pants.

Netaporter · 17/08/2023 10:18

OMG today’s Episode..I’m now so invested I got a VPN so I could watch it abroad 😂

spoilers ahead

yays

  • Seema and LTW wardrobes this week
  • Nya bossing it with the ex
  • Carrie’s silvery coat at Coney Island
  • steve not being cast as a twat
  • charlotte’s storyline
  • miranda finally seeing what an odious self absorbed person Che is
  • Anthony’s storyline
  • Stanford’s exit handled beautifully
  • Aidan wears trousers during the entire episode

Nays

  • More NB bullshit in the form of a Sam Smith cameo this week
  • Too much Che. Obviously.
  • But OMG JC attempting to cry. Worst acting I’ve ever seen.

Enjoy everyone!

mikado1 · 17/08/2023 10:40

I love that the fashion comes under spoilers 😆

Waifeandstray · 17/08/2023 10:45

Very over the non binary shit and how the comic made fun of people and called people cis. Found that pretty offensive.

Find Aidan a bit whiny and boring. He also looks quite scrawny.

Love Nya, Seema and Lisa.

MelonsOnSaleAgain · 17/08/2023 11:39

Loved our OG cast this week.

Miranda more and more like her old self and loving her career success.

Carrie looking fabulous and most of her stuff was around supporting people. Albeit the main one was Che, and che can do one.

Charlotte surprised me in a good way. I thought they were going to play it that she’d ignored a text and there was a family tragedy, so to keep it about them just constantly taking from her was great.

Loved Steve getting in with life.

I guess Aidan isn’t coming to the big apartment then!

Hated the Che stuff. I find the world obsession with gender wearing anyway, but the absolute hypocrisy of forcing people to ‘respect your identity’ then impose and identity of ‘cis het’ on someone else was disgusting. I could almost think the writers are secretly GC!

Then that ‘comedy’ material, it was just off the scale horrible. I think we can stop assuming they’re trying to play Che for sympathy. Poor Miranda.

Lottapianos · 17/08/2023 12:33

'But OMG JC attempting to cry. Worst acting I’ve ever seen.'

😂 truly awful. I just burst out laughing

I loved last week's episode but thought this week was mostly awful. Che and Sam Smith and the endless non binary / pronoun shit can absolutely get to fuck. So utterly sick of it. And they can take Aidan and his Botox and his weird hair and his awful acting with them

I thought the Stanford storyline was 🙄

Stuff I loved - Miranda's wardrobe, just exquisite. Seeing Carrie's old plaid multicoloured skirt back again! Seema in head to toe leopard print 😍 Judy and her 'YOU! SHUT YOURSELF UP!' line ( might be nicking that). Charlotte getting leathered and reading the riot act to the family, also flat out refusing to go racing home to pick up the notebook 💪

Loving the signs that the wheels might be coming off the Aidan and Carrie nonsense. I think he will show up to her 'last supper' but not be able to come inside obvs 🙄 and do a big tearful soliloquy on the street about how he can't possibly leave his boys etc. And I'll be torn between thinking 'OMG poor Carrie' and 'my god woman, what were you thinking????!!!'

Can't wait for next week!

KillingMeDeftly · 17/08/2023 13:13

OMG JC attempting to cry. Worst acting I’ve ever seen.

Afraid I have to concur with this. I was laughing and I'm sure that's not the reaction I was meant to have!

tribpot · 17/08/2023 13:30

OMG JC attempting to cry. Worst acting I’ve ever seen.

Totally agree. That was painful. Obvs Che's return to 'form' in the world's least tolerant comedy club was a close second, I assume next week they are going to be vindicated by 'just being themselves' on stage and everyone will love the routine for its authenticity and wit, maybe even Miranda will be won back over (god I hope not) and see that it was her own pre-conceptions about who Che was that made her not able to perceive the hilarity in being trashed in excruciating detail.

So Aidan's surprised to discover being hundreds of miles away from his kids every other week isn't a sustainable method of parenting? Whoda thunk it. There is no actual reason Carrie can't spend every other week on the farm and do the commute herself, WTF is she even doing in New York these days?

Agree - yay for the return of Steve not as some wizened old crone. Yay as well for Charlotte telling her family where to stick it. I have to say though I don't know why they don't get a PA or similar to run the notebooks around town, surely Harry does actually have quite a lot to be getting on with?

Sorry in one way that they seem to have taken the easy way out of LTW's pregnancy storyline. And like so many storylines in AJLT it seems to exist one week and then vanish again, what is the point except to give the vast (and excellent) cast something to do?

DaggerIsle · 17/08/2023 14:24

What the hell was Rock calling Charlotte at work because of a forgotten notebook?
And it was meant to be an emergency??? If my kid forgot their notebook, well, tough shit!
No way would they be actually facilitated.

DaggerIsle · 17/08/2023 14:32

Lily calling Charlotte gross? Those kids are both hideous.
Speaking of hideous, Che is the worst. Poor Miranda.

DaggerIsle · 17/08/2023 14:36

Just watching the scene where Carrie walks into her beautiful new house, what is that hideous rug???? What a crime against beautiful floorboards.

DaggerIsle · 17/08/2023 14:38

I see what you mean about the crying... 😂😂😂
Again, another terrible kid.

WilkinsonM · 17/08/2023 14:53

AOS · 13/08/2023 22:01

Is it true that Cynthia Nixon's now wife IRL used to date Che?

I doubt it, Sara Ramirez used to be
married to a man until not that long ago and Cynthia Nixon has been with her wife for a really long time

Ridemeginger · 17/08/2023 15:10

Loved seeing Steve happy, and Brady actually looking genuinely happy too.

Wyatt: Aiden and Cathy need to watch We Need To Talk About Kevin, and lock all sharp farm tools beyond his reach.

Che. Or should that be Cheryl? Her brand of comedy seems to be nothing more than making fun of straight people, and mostly women, and mostly white. She's the "NB" Jim Davidson. Please fuck off to the far side of fuck, you untalented POS. So glad Miranda has seen the real her, and what an utter bitch she is. Che's self pitying "so tired of explaining meeeeee" bullshit is wearing pretty thin - what has you identity got to do with the level of cruelty you were aiming at someone who loved you and turned her world upside down for you? Why is it ok for you to crack jokes about age, race and sexuality, but get mightily offended when someone doesn't get you pretentious pronouns right? She clearly wasn't ever funny - and what a cliche that when she identified as a woman, all she had to joke about was her weight. Because of course that's all us silly women care about, unlike the cool NBs. Please can they just bin her for the next series, please!!!

Sam Smith. You. can join Che in the far side of fuck. Take the Toby twat with you.

Loved the cameo from Dolly Wells as Joy, the lawyer Miranda was with at the UN. For those who don't know her, she's in the. comedy, Doll & Em, was in the film "Can You Ever Forgive Me" with Melissa McCarthy, and was the model who had had plastic surgery, who Roy tries to get off with in The IT Crowd.

Charlotte telling her odious children to bog off. Yeeesssss!! I don't understand why Harry is being such a twat though. Come on, Harry, you were never a sexist dinosaur, teach your daughters that they can cope on their own for a few bloody hours; and to think next time they rudely tell Charlotte to butt out of their business, because she might just do that from now on.

Good for Nya for taking the high road on her ex and his baby mama.

Seema: I think she's going to end up getting hurt. Shades of Samantha and Richard Wright with Seema and Ravi.

Poor Lisa. Bit of a pointless storyline, this short lived pregnancy. Was it in order to give the writers the chance to say they are all in favour of a woman's right to choose, without having the thorny issue of actually showing a woman going to get an abortion?

Stanford: Very odd turn of events with him becoming a monk, but I think this is their way of sending him, and Willy Garson, to heaven, in peace love and harmony. I actually thought it was a lovely scene.

Anthony: TMI.

Aiden crying: So funny! Someone needs to book him a plane ticket to the UK. The Egremont Crab Apple Fair, Cumbria, is the venue of the World Gurning Championships. He stands an excellent chance of placing in the top 3.

Fashion highlights:

Pink sequin Fendi baguette: oh yes!
Carrie's whole outfit in the final scene.
Charlotte's pink dress and sleek hair at brunch: she looked lovely! Please stop dressing her in the crazy sleeves, and put her in these types of sleek outfits. The pouffy sleeves just accentuate the pouffy face lift.
Miranda's stripy jump suit at brunch. She's looking super chic since returning to work.
Carrie's yellow, quilt cape/coat with the big sleeves.
Lisa's blue outfit.

Promo for next week's finale is on YouTube.

ShinyPikachu · 17/08/2023 18:01

Thank you @Ridemeginger - I've been trying to remember who Joy was and she didn't show up on IMDb for the episode earlier so I was stumped.

I absolutely loved Charlotte this week. More puffy sleeves on her when she was in the gallery though.

She’s also in Bridgett Jones’ Diary, as one of the smug marrieds at the dinner party.
