Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

The episodes keep get better. I think AJLT has finally found it's feet!

DaggerIsle · 17/08/2023 23:00

Why was there viewer support at the end of the episode? Was Sam Smith that triggering?

And by the way so much for Carrie being a good friend. After the way Che spoke about Miranda, she should have been on the phone to Che telling them to f*ck off and never disrespect her friend again.

ShinyPikachu · 18/08/2023 00:30

They should have offered viewer support last episode after seeing Aiden in those white pants.

TheYadaYada · 18/08/2023 01:06

Loved it tonight. But Sam Smith I could’ve done without.

Not sure about Lisa TW’s pregnancy storyline. How old is she supposed to be? It seemed most odd that there was no mention of her age, just their careers.

And Carrie was not exactly a supportive friend to Miranda in the club.

Did Steve always have that that ridiculous accent? I’m sure he didn’t in the original SATC.

pmsl, quite!

agree that Che, Rock and Lily can go to fuck. Spoilt, whiny narcissists all of them. Add Sam Smith to that too, twat. They can fuck off with shoe horning in so much NB shit.

loved Charlotte telling her kids to bog off but agree that Harry wouldn’t be such a sap. He’s been underwritten and underused in AJLT. And felt for Lisa and “what about ME and my career?” - quite!

Steve would have been snapped up by a brilliant woman by now surely? Loved Coney Island, he is hot dogs and clams.

Seema is underused as well, shame as I love her. Agree, who cares about the bloke? I hope they give her a happy ending though. Although they may just forget about her now, it wouldn’t surprise me.

Nya is underused too although I’m glad they briefly remind us that she’s a Columbia law professor, not just someone who was dumped because she can’t have babies

Miranda is a bit back to her old self but totally agree that Carrie should uninvite Che to the last supper rather than tolerate Che’s continued shitty behaviour. And go to fuck with pronouns, I wanted to shout “it’s compelled speech!” when she corrected the vet. FTFO.

Aiden crying fgs! Agree, he won’t leave his boys and this time he’ll dump Carrie. Lol at Wyatt and We need to talk about Kevin comment upthread. I’ve just realised that maybe he’s the reason for trigger warning re suicide?

Anthony and Stanford, they didn’t need to explain that, not sure why they did. They get all sorts of continuity shit completely wrong and NOW they need to explain Stanny’sabsence? Why? Loved Anthony as always and think the gay sex stuff was old school SATC and quite interesting.

and the fashion was fabulous

dayswithaY · 18/08/2023 07:00

I think the trigger warning was regarding Lisa’s miscarriage.

What is Carrie’s loyalty to Che all about? Surely you’d all get up and leave the club together, why would you leave your friend to go home upset and alone? Scrub Che from the dinner guest list!

At the end when Aidan was sobbing she really didn’t get it, telling him “bones heal”. That’s not the problem here Carrie, he’s got Dad guilt.

thebellagio · 18/08/2023 07:33

It was a bit of an odd episode

tne fashion was incredible. Miranda’s coat in particular was one of the best pieces I’ve seen on the show

seema and Nya are so underused. If Nya couldn’t commit because she was filming elsewhere why did they bring her back? She’s literally not adding anything to the show.

che was a bitch. An absolutely bitch. Not funny and very cruel. The fact that Carrie and Aidan didn’t react and Carrie can’t understand why Miranda wouldn’t want to be around Che is just baffling. Example 475 of Carrie being a shitty friend

yay to Charlotte shouting at the kids and Harry. Rock and Lily are both awful and Harry criminally underused.

Anthony was a delight - the wrapping up of the Stamford storyline seemed odd. We all know the truth so why shoehorn that in?

aidan def won’t move to the city. I reckon Carrie will move to be with him - which could lead into the call from Samantha, how else would they weave that in?

I feel like the show has begun to find its stride - basically Che and Miranda were the problem. The second half of this series was much better

rinseandrepeat1 · 18/08/2023 07:44

Loved this episode soooo much!

Thoughts:

  • I still think the casting of the actress who plays Rock is so spot on. She really does look like she could be Charlotte and Harry's child.
  • Harry is honestly the star of this season. I don't remember him being this funny in SATC. It's the one liners that keep really tickling me.
  • I can't believe the nerve of Andre. What a POS. I really do like Nya and find myself rooting for her. I think her journey is slow but very real.
  • Miranda's colourful coat was amaze.
  • just love Charlotte's storyline at the minute and the dynamic between her and Harry.
  • I wonder if Carrie will end up keeping her apartment in the end after all.
  • love the brunch scene, felt like old school SATC.
MelonsOnSaleAgain · 18/08/2023 08:24

Aside. I’m rewatch SATC. S5 E1 Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) from Greys Anatomy is the police officer who lets Samantha keep putting up flyers about Richard being a cheater 🤣

Oh I KNOW, and she says something like “carry on maam” 😂

tribpot · 18/08/2023 08:48

And of course steals the scene - this clip cuts off her 'carry on ma'am' just slightly but you can get the gist!

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 18/08/2023 08:49

While I agree it was great to see a drunk Charlotte telling her vile kids to piss off, I thought her acting in that scene was quite simply abominable. What the hell is going on there. God I miss the old Charlotte so much Confused

DelilahJane · 18/08/2023 08:52

I've just watched the episode and haven't caught up with all the comments yet but after Aidan's ugly crying which looked like he was choking on one of his chicken bones, I fully expected Carrie was going to ask if he changed his mind and was coming to her dinner party.

MelonsOnSaleAgain · 18/08/2023 08:55

@Illegallyblonder @tribpot already channelliny her inner Miranda Bailey before she even was Miranda Bailey! I’d forgotten so many of the details. I’m loving my rewatch!

Lottapianos · 18/08/2023 08:57

'And by the way so much for Carrie being a good friend'

She's always been a shitty friend. She should have been right behind Miranda on the way out of that comedy club

heartofglass23 · 18/08/2023 08:57

Trans luvin ridiculously over the top!

Che watching herself talking about gender with TRA flag on her laptop with black trans lives matter poster behind her.

Could they be any more woke????

Xtraincome · 18/08/2023 09:17

Pros:
The fashion ❤️
Stanford story was silly but I have a suspicion it was something they/his family may have discussed. Don't take his exit seriously, have fun with it.
The pregnancy storyline. Although over quickly was a nice reminder of the decisions women are forced to make. No way would her documentary happen with a new born in tow. The miscarriage was a sad moment for sure.

Cons:
No longer team Che, sorry
Wokeness so out of control it's almost taking the mick out of itself surely?
The crying!!

Lastly, I can't wait to see Samantha again! 😍

One of my absolute favourite throw away scenes. A simple act of female solidarity.

user1471543094 · 18/08/2023 09:23

This episode was disappointing after last weeks.

There seems to be a direct correctional between Che doing stand up comedy (and I used that term oh so very loosely) and how much I like the episode.

Che's complaining outside the comedy club for being fed up of apologising for being ME summed up what is wrong with so many people's attitudes these days. You don't get to be a sh1tbag and then just say its just me, I am being my true authentic self.

Also all the kids are so bratty - would definitely make anyone who chose to remain childless extremely thankful that they did.

Lottapianos · 18/08/2023 09:27

'The pregnancy storyline. Although over quickly was a nice reminder of the decisions women are forced to make. No way would her documentary happen with a new born in tow'

Yes that's true. And I really like Herbert but his offer to be around to 'help' was pretty maddening. As if. The impact was going to be pretty much 100% on her

DaggerIsle · 18/08/2023 09:34

Problem about bratty kids is that when Rock called Charlotte as an emergency only for it to be forgotten schoolwork, reply should have been 'you're not 5, tough shit, you should have remembered, bye'
And when Lily called her mother gross with disgust on her face, she should have been grounded.
Charlotte dealt with her tampon drama, her condom drama, but she's gross???

viviscool · 18/08/2023 09:51

they seem keen to insert politically right on soundbites into scenes where it just appears wrong and disingenuous. For example, when Lisa admits that she'd thought of that option (abortion) and can't do it. "but I know I'm lucky to have that choice". Such an unnatural response when you're in the middle of a personal crisis. We're not thinking of our political freedoms, just wondering what the fuck we should do. Bad writing. Appalling writing.

Ridemeginger · 18/08/2023 09:57

Lily is such a massive disappointment as a character. As the adopted daughter, and ethnically different to her family, they could have given her a much more interesting storyline about identity- as the writers seem so bloody keen on the concept and everyone being their authentic bloody selves. She’s an extremely talented, seemingly intelligent and privileged young woman, who must know the life she would have led in her Siding Doors scenario would have been the diametric opposite to the one she’s living now. I think the writers missed an interesting story in favour of portraying her and all the other teens as 2 dimensional hateful brats.

Very true. If the writers wanted to show their support for abortion rights, but were too afraid to let the character go ahead with it, they could have had her resolving to have an abortion, but then losing the baby to miscarriage first. It just shows you how over sensitive the industry has become to negative viewer feelz since the original SATC. When Miranda contemplated abortion, Samantha and Carrie unashamedly stated they had had one, and Miranda had no political or moral opposition to having one herself (ultimately her decision was based on this pregnancy being her only chance of motherhood given her lazy ovary issue). Nowadays, writers seem to believe viewers need an emotional support dog to contemplate a storyline of a woman contemplating a perfectly legal and pretty normal act of self care.

tribpot · 18/08/2023 10:18

In the US, particularly now, women might be more inclined to reflect on their good fortune of living in a state where it is still legal. That said, it would never be out of reach for someone of LTW's wealth. It was frustrating to see both Herbert and particularly Charlotte saying 'you can do it, you can make it work'. Instead of acknowledging well this is a truly shit situation. If Herbert really wanted to make it work he could have offered to give up his own dreams of being on the city council.
