First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

I think the reason for the Anthony love in AJLT is that he's really developed as a character. He's gone from the 'bitchy little pine nut' (thank you, Stanford 😂) in SATC, to someone with real vulnerability, unafraid to straight talk Charlotte's appalling children and a good friend to them all. Whilst still having some of the best lines.

Itsanewme · 14/08/2023 00:00

I also did the tour in 2007 celebrated my 30 th birthday with a Cosmo
This season has def grown on me.
No amount of kittens will make me warm to Che.

Ridemeginger · 14/08/2023 06:32

I love Anthony, if only for him saying that the most awful thing he can think of is, “Stone washed jeans with a matching jacket.” He had the best one liners. Much like with Harry, I suspect Charlotte was friends with him because he was a male, giving her a male perspective/friendship, but she could be herself with him. I don’t remember him being particularly “misogynistic”. (Off to find an Anthony compilation on YT.)

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 14/08/2023 08:48

stone washed jeans and a matching jacket is my favourite SATC line 😂

Lottapianos · 14/08/2023 09:18

'stone washed jeans and a matching jacket is my favourite SATC line 😂'

It's one of my favourites too! Especially in the context of Charlotte marvelling at the beautiful autumn light and the tragedy of not being able to see it - Anthony just sticks a pin in all the reflectiveness 😂

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/08/2023 09:45

@Lottapianos from what I remember it was Antony that drew Charlottes attention to the light while they were sitting on a bench. The joke came after.

By the way, Cathy actress, Rosemary DeWitt, is not only married to Ron Livingston/Berger, but also played Miranda’s colleague, Fern, in SATC - the colleague who was keeping tabs on Miranda’s lateness when she was juggling motherhood and being back at work.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/08/2023 10:31

I knew I knew her but couldn't place her!!

Ridemeginger · 14/08/2023 10:48

Me too, couldn’t place her and then looked her up! So that’s Seema’s dad, Seema’s ex bf, Carrie’s bike accident fellow and Cathy all recycled from SATC. It’s fun to spot them in their new incarnations.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/08/2023 10:54

It is!! I wonder if they'll throw any more in in the remaining eps!

Andylion · 14/08/2023 13:42

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/08/2023 10:31

I knew I knew her but couldn't place her!!

She was also Midge in Mad Men.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/08/2023 14:54

I've never seen Mad Men. I kinda had a really strong suspicion I'd seen her in SATC but I couldn't figure it out

memoriesofamiga · 14/08/2023 20:43

I rewatched Mad Men very recently (it's fab @DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy if you ever get a chance do watch it, genius of a series), but I couldn't remember who Midge was I had to Google! I didn't make that connection at all.

I wish we saw more of Carrie's neighbour.

GellerYeller · 15/08/2023 00:30

@ReeseWitherfork @Ridemeginger loving the Anthony quotes. ‘Chanel-lo’ is a classic.
‘Hates it! Next!’ where he pauses and adds ‘great beadwork though’. When he tells Harry he knew a girl who gave herself a stroke in the run up to her wedding ‘but she pulled it together for the big day’ 😂
Fabulous comic timing.

GellerYeller · 15/08/2023 00:32

No offence intended btw. Just to be clear, stroke, NOT funny. But I enjoyed his delivery of the punchline.

Ridemeginger · 16/08/2023 19:08

None taken by me, @GellerYeller - strokes took both my parents, but that scene, with the look on Harry's face as Anthony claps him on the shoulder post monologue, was fantastic.

So, talking of guest appearances as per the exchange above, I simply cannot watch Geri Halliwell's 30 seconds as Phoebe the Soho House member. I just can't bear it, she's so bad, my secondary embarrassment is so acute that I have to fast forward. However, I took my kids to see Gran Turismo yesterday, and Geri's in it and acted very well! So I'm willing to give her another chance in AJLT!

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 16/08/2023 19:35

A propos nothing and sorry to go completely off track, but I'm currently watching Painkiller with Matthew Broderick... it's sooo good. And I just randomly noticed he's also a leftie.. like SJP!

EachandEveryone · 16/08/2023 19:48

He’s also tiny like her a I’ve seen him live and he is one of those short blokes with big shoulders. Which is what the camera likes. He’s a great actor.

As am I! And have you spotted who is playing Arthur Sackler, the psychotic apparition of MB's character's father? It's Miranda's speed date, from when she pretended to be an air hostess to get a date for Charlotte's marriage to Trey! That actor was, until recently, married to Jennifer Grey, who used to be MB's girlfriend, and played his sister in Ferris Bueller. I love to geek out on all these connections!

BTW, have you seen Dopesick (on Disney)? It's the same story about Oxycontin, but told more from the patients' point of view. It's utterly brilliant too. As is the novel, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, that uses the scandal in rural Virginia (where Painkiller is set) as the backdrop of a reworking of David Copperfield - it's fantastic.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 16/08/2023 20:30

Wowee.. I knew I knew that actor from somewhere. Talk about 6 degrees of separation. I've not seen Dopesick actually. It's an incredible story. I didn't know much about Oxy but nothing surprises where drug companies are concerned. Great info!!
I've now gone down the 'height' rabbit hole. I knew SJP was tiny but not THAT tiny. It must be an issue filming her scenes with Aidan. I was always aware of Samantha being significantly taller in their scenes together. Her and MB seem a good match height wise.. and every other way wise!

WeetabixTowels · 16/08/2023 20:35

Ooh I’ll have to watch the Matthew Broderick thing I absolutely loved Dopesick

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 16/08/2023 20:47

@WeetabixTowels would highly recommend

JMAngel1 · 16/08/2023 20:56

I'm loving Painkiller too - especially MB's moments of madness in his mansion.
