Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

Does anyone know the timeline going on here? Has Aiden been in NYC this whole time or has he been coming and going?

It’s all about the brows! Today was the first day in maybe 30 years I’ve had to think anything about Norman Lamont 🤣🤣🤣 who knew it would be on a AJLT thread😂

Be thankful it wasn't Denis Healey 😉

Can't figure out if I have a crap tv/ bad hearing, or if the quality of Miranda's voice ( and Carrie's a bit) is kind of wobbly/squeaky sometimes?

WeetabixTowels · 04/08/2023 18:03

I am definitely gonna rewatch the original SATC series. The Aidan relationship has brought back memories of a thoroughly brilliant series 3.

I remember at the time being an older teen and being impressed that a female protagonist was flawed and had affairs with married men. It was a brave move and bloody brilliant TV.

Remember at the furniture show when Big got drunk and moaned about his beige apartment - then spoke into a rolled up newspaper in her ear and said “I’m getting out” 😱 this might sound ridiculous and I’m sure I was way too over invested but I remember practically screaming and also thinking “YES! Haha, you silly old man! This is what you get when you rush into marriage with a pretty woman half your bloody age. Carrie wins” 😂

To those saying Big wasn’t the soppy kind who said things like “The One” or would run off to chase Carrie. I disagree - he was wildly jealous when she went out with Aidan and called him ‘Daniel Boone’. He waited outside her apartment saying he’d leave Natasha for her. He basically turned into Carrie whenever she was committed to someone else (a point I think she actually recognised before leaving for Paris)

LittleBearPad · 04/08/2023 18:26

Ive wiped season one from my memory but did she still call him ‘Big’. She was married to him for 15 odd years. Wouldn’t it be John?

The whole was Big a big mistake was ridiculous

Ridemeginger · 04/08/2023 18:29

Aidan’s eldest son being 20 makes sense (even if the apparent speed of his marriage and impregnating his wife do not). Brady being 17 is what does not make sense (as well as Lily being too young also). But apparently this sort of pedantry is not on the spirit of watching AJLT. (Aiden’s stunt baby was SJP’s own child, that’s why he smiles at her in the scene and is so calm).

I think Carrie rewriting her history with Big is the ultimate portrayal of the character’s narcissism, and completely in character. If someone is not there for her 100 %, no matter how unreasonable she is being, then they are “bad” and she can’t cope with it. There are so many examples of this throughout the series. Well Big did the ultimate in not being with her by selfishly dying. So he’s now bad forever and in retrospect, despite the evidence of a happy marriage. For Aiden - well I think Carrie was Aiden’s version of Big. The one that kept getting away, hooking him in again, messing him around, but the draw remained irresistible. It will end badly, I think.

It’s not your tv or your hearing
they are in competition to take first prize in “I want to be in the Mickey Mouse club”

absolutely unbearable

as an aside I just rewatched the “Aiden’s painted abs scene” . Cringe.

I completely agree about the way her narcissism propels her to retrospectively annihilate anyone who isn’t completely devoted and in thrall to her (in an intimate relationship context in particular)

the mistaken comment in relation to Big was despicable. The only true aspect to this was that was for so long he was a mistake to her childish self but she flogged a dead horse and had an affair with him whilst he was married. Oh and flirted with the idea of shagging Aiden in that car crash of a film. To ascribe their relationship in the latter stage as a mistake makes her look so shallow. But then to me she is plumbing hidden depths in a paddling pool now.

dayswithaY · 04/08/2023 19:28

I’m hoping the writers are just trying to hook us all in for a big build up and ending when she walks away from Aidan with her head held high, realising Big was her one true love. Otherwise, it’s all been a lie! All us loyal fans, love him or hate him, Big was Carrie’s destiny, and now we find out she made a mistake? Please don’t do that to us!

I expect after a weekend of chicken shit and bratty teenagers Carrie will realise she’s gaslighting herself and sanity will be restored.

Could this be when the famous “Samantha on the telephone from London” cameo we’ve been promised comes into play. Samantha will tell her straight - “No honey, it’s just sex”.

Plus, Seema spent way too long looking at Carrie’s phone in the restaurant - she knows something.

NeedToThinkOfOne · 04/08/2023 20:44

Think Seema does know something. A friend has just watched and is guessing that Aidan is going to go back to his wife, a la Carrie and Big. His kids and family in the rural setting are what makes him happy and he regrets his divorce, so he ultimately treats Carrie as she did to him? Good prediction, I think.

Agree completely with a PP's comments on Berger. What a dick.

Dr.R was rather lovely (physically, another bit of a dick later although I could sympathise with him. I mean, being dumped for Steve!).

Smith was lovely, inside and out, and I too adore Harry.

KillingMeDeftly · 04/08/2023 21:13

How many more episodes are left for the season? Has season 3 got the go-ahead?

WeetabixTowels · 04/08/2023 21:18

It’s Friday night, I’ve settled down with a gin, some peanut butter cookies and the remote. I’m watching SATC where Big shows up at the furniture show, because memories.

It starts with Carrie’s voiceover saying “At any time in New York you can…catch a cab at 2am” (shows Miranda 1.0 hailing a cab) “Chinese takeout at 3am” (shows Samantha answering the door for Chinese food with a naked man behind her - god I miss that woman)….but somehow you can never never get your dry cleaning - shows Carrie turning up in the pitch black to find the dry cleaners closed and having a mini tantrum.

You can fucking get your dry cleaning Carrie 1.0 if you turn up when the bloody place is open. God she’s awful, but I love it Grin

Whiskeypowers · 04/08/2023 21:23

@WeetabixTowels gin and peanut butter cookies sound an amazing combo.
I’ve just watched the one with Berger and scrunchie gate whilst drinking Chenin blanc and eating minstrels.
he is such a petulant arse. She is so needy with that sodding fascinator thing on her head
but i enjoyed it nonetheless! There was a town when now I’d have a cheeky cigarette but those days are gone 😄

I agree, I am thoroughly enjoying these, more than the actual show 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/08/2023 21:27

As with you all - big was the love of carries life

To say their relationship was a mistake 🙀🙀

Tho maybe as someone said to get away from the actor

I still like aiden

Carrie doesn't really like kids - so not sure she will like his 3 boys

What for me though was kneading the crab dough with unwashed hands

Hope Anthony didn't sell that dough /bread

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 04/08/2023 21:29

@Whiskeypowers I love that ep. Especially when she flounces off when he takes the piss out of her fascinator ..having just told him off for flouncing off from her Confused

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 04/08/2023 21:30

Aah cigarettes - the nostalgia!
Yes Berger couldn’t take a nip of criticism, then went all PA on Carrie. Who herself had her fair share of criticism about writing SATC.

WeetabixTowels · 04/08/2023 21:35

Watching this episode now I’m sure it’s the one where Miranda and Steve break up. He talks about wanting a baby because he saw one gurgling in a restaurant 🙄and of course Miranda 1.0 is reasonable and level headed she reminds him babies are hard work and she’s trying to make partner. And he’s really shitty with her. I’m sure later in this episode he also laughs like an infant watching Scooby Doo l. They’re so badly matched!

This is why I love SATC - each episode has classic, great moments!
