First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

Unfortunately I think the scene where Che asks Carrie and Aidan why they didn't end up together before and Carrie says "I made a mistake" is a prelude to Che realising they made a mistake in letting Miranda go. Cue romantic reunion and we're all somehow supposed to be thrilled that two characters who are at least tolerable when apart are back together.

Netaporter · 04/08/2023 09:33

@ReeseWitherfork oooh. Hadn’t thought of that (she says looking at her own definitely not pregnant meno belly 😂)

@tribpot sadly I thought that…. Reunion with Miranda 🙄

Youdoyoutoday · 04/08/2023 09:40

@tribpot I thought that too with the look on Che's face realising that they made a mistake breaking up with miranda!! I really hope they don't get back together!!

Wishimaywishimight · 04/08/2023 09:45

Does no one else share my love (lust!!!) for Big? I always thought he was sex on legs - totally understood why Carrie could not let go!

Slightly more controversially, does anyone else wonder what group of people are being referred to when someone says "they" in reference to Che?? It always takes me a nano-second to remember the non-binary thing. Wouldn't it be less confusing if there was a different pronoun for non-binary rather than the same one which refers to multiples?

Yes when CheMa boss mentioned ‘they’ I thought she was talking about clients!

I actually liked that Che challenged Carrie and Aidan’s bullshit relationship. First time I’ve seen her actually have a semblance of non-self interest

Wishimaywishimight · 04/08/2023 10:09

Carrie wrapping herself around Aidan reminds me of the way Victoria Beckham seems to mould herself to DB when posing with him - not so much a hug as an attempt to physically absorb him!

ReeseWitherfork · 04/08/2023 08:57

I’m going to go against the grain here and say that I’m actually buying the Carrie/Big/Aidan thing. I think Carrie and Aidan could have had a happily ever after in the original series if she’d actually had some closure with Big. She clearly loved Big a lot, and I do think he loved her, but he took so damn long to work it all out that he ended up stringing getting along for years until he got there. And I think she was caught in that “any moment he’ll realise he loves me” situation and for that reason couldn’t let him go. And if she found a way to let him go, I think she could have been happy with Aidan.

Aaaaaaand I really thought they were setting us up for a pregnant Charlotte.

I thought about the Charlotte pregnancy thing earlier in the series. I think she announced that her periods had finally stopped linking it to menopause and I wondered whether it was maybe pregnancy.

We've had two weight issues bought up now, first with Che and now Charlotte but no one ever mentions it about the blokes despite Herbert having it all out in bed with LTW. I wonder if that's deliberate that it's maybe seen as more acceptable for men?

I didn't notice Aidan's painted on abs. That deserves a rewatch!

Figgygal · 04/08/2023 10:23

Where the fuck has this nonsense about big being a mistake come from? Horrible even if she is in the giddy love stage

PenguinIce · 04/08/2023 11:03

Shame Carrie didn’t realise Big was a mistake before she refused letting his body be buried in his family plot! Poor bloke has had his ashes scattered in Paris thanks to her!

readwritelove · 04/08/2023 11:15

Ridiculous she's now considering Big was a big mistake after all...come on!

Ridiculous he still won't go into her apartment! I would get the ick/start worrying about this after a while... surely she must realise this relationship is not real if he a) won't properly confront the past - have they even talked about it, how awful she was to him? b) step inside her home. I would find that tiresome, and the whole thing with renting Che's apartment is just silly. I can see the whole thing ending in tears very quickly...

It’s so odd isn’t it she was absolutely heartbroken on season 1, as one would expect a widow to be.

Now one sniff of the painted on abs and she thinks her whole marriage was a mistake!! She never thought of Aidan unless he was in front of her before now she wishes she could change it all. Odd

And stop going on about the chicken climbing stairs bullshit.

Chickens can climb stairs and jump up onto beds, and higher. All the incorrect chicken facts in this episode infuriated me.

Something I didn’t even know I should be infuriated about but now experiencing secondary infuriation! Maybe a callback to the roof chickens from season 3? But also, too much!!!

NeedToThinkOfOne · 04/08/2023 12:04

👋🏻 to @Wishimaywishimight yes to the Big lust. We were the ones struggling from day one with the Russian I always thought he was a creepy character and I just didn’t get it the Big dash to Paris was fabulous. Always lots of on-screen chemistry between them, which I can’t see at all with Carrie and Aidan now.

WeetabixTowels · 04/08/2023 12:10

I never got the Big attraction. Then again Chris Noth really isn’t my type. He always reminded me a little of Norman Lamont.

I was always surprised she ended up with Big. It’s as a toxic relationship every step of the way - he was a commitment phobe and she was verging on psychotic.

But I prefer Big by far to the Russian - who we were meant to believe in as a renowned hunk but was very creepy and dwarfy. And the worst boyfriend by far was Berger - what a bitter, whinging, pathetic little man child who was sent into a spin because a woman was more successful than him. I remember watching the post it episode and being furious for Carrie.

Ah I miss the old SATC days. I feel a rewatch coming

ReeseWitherfork · 04/08/2023 12:16

Eugh HATED the Russian. So creepy. Everyone seems to love him on the SATC subreddit, can’t get behind it at all.

Definitely got the Big thing. He had such a cheeky charming demeanour. But I was never actually attracted to him. I was 18 when I first watched it and he was mid 40s, so he just looked like an old man to me. (Not sure whether to laugh or cry at finding mid 40s old.) I never really found any of the men they attracted for the same reason. Except Smith 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Oh what a comparison 🤣 @WeetabixTowels I really can’t see that.

user1471543094 · 04/08/2023 12:20

I was not a Big fan.
Their relationship was toxic and I hate when TV relationships like this they end up Happily Ever After because it so rarely works out like that in real life.
I was young and impressionable watching SATC and was also of Carrie's mindset that my own toxic interest would suddenly realise he was in love with me. He of course did not - and thank goodness!!!
So its disappointing to look back at it and see that them getting together was the option they chose. The message being "Hang in there girls! He'll come back! Destroy the relationship with the good man who actually really loves you (Aiden) and wait for Him to change his mind about you!"
He was a sap going to Paris after her and Big was no sap - complete personality transplant. He couldn't have cared less about her.

Ilovealido · 04/08/2023 12:27

I really enjoyed that episode. Aidan really gives me the ick though. Seems like they’re setting them up for a fall as it’s all moving too fast. Agree that Seema knows something & Carrie was being a rubbish friend forgetting about the Hamptons.

mikado1 · 04/08/2023 12:31

Aghast at Miranda not really responding properly to her 'Was Big a big mistake?' comment. Why was she silent? Surely you'd say what are you talking about? Or.... is it possible we are going to be now told about problems over the intervening years? Possible I suppose.

Couldn't believe her v bitchy 'They're all wire'!

I got the Big thing, because they had great chemistry as a pp said.

Yes maybe NYC standards are different - Big was meh to me (though I did like how he behaved rationally compared to erratic Carrie). We were meant to believe Trey was gorgeous but, again - meh. Too floppy (in every sense 🤣). Aidan was a bit of a minger in season 3 but GORGEOUS in season 4. He really did do a Calvin Harris. Richard Wright was portrayed as some sort of sex magnate - but he reminded me of a creepier High Heffner. Steve was way too boy-like

Harry was the most attractive to me because he really sparkles - and I now quite fancy HerBert too!

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 04/08/2023 12:32

I’m hoping that Carrie’s behaviour is supposed to be ridiculous and like she’s so desperate to be happy again now Big is dead she is rewriting history to make Aiden her real happy ending. But I’m concerned that the writers are genuinely expecting us to believe this nonsense is her happy ending.

I never got the Aiden thing in the first place. He is so boring and different and what the hell do they talk about???

mikado1 · 04/08/2023 12:32

Harry is fab and I love his reaction to Charlotte in the dress, lose the belt! She has a gorgeous figure always.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 04/08/2023 12:33

No big fan of Big but i could at least imagine them having a laugh at dinner together.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 04/08/2023 12:34

Charlotte‘s non-belly really annoyed me. I couldn’t even bloody see it. I suppose if you’ve always been really slim you’d notice but there really wasn’t a problem with the dress
