First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

I’m also pretty sure she left him in the country house (which was gorgeous by the way and the hysterics because she saw a fucking squirrel was shocking behaviour - she’d hate it here in Yorkshire, you can’t move for the things!) to go for dinner with Big. THE MAN SHE CHEATED ON AIDAN WITH.

Carrie would utterly deserve it if he dumps her by the end of the series.

aqiarious · 03/08/2023 14:40

-Aidan still wearing the coat but looking less like a French gendarme this week

Grin

I'll be watching later! She treated Aidan terribly, and even on an everyday level seemed constantly irritated by him and unwilling to let him get involved at all with her life. Big was selfish, and all the rest of it (poor Natasha) but he and Carrie were similar in that way and a good match.

Wishimaywishimight · 03/08/2023 14:41

Seriously, why is Aidan putting himself through this for a third time! Is Carrie so desperate for a happy ending that she is now saying actually Aidan is The One and Big wasn't? She comes across a bit needy and clingy with him, there's an air of desperation in the way she simpers, leans into him and hugs him like she's trying to save herself from drowning.

I reckon the others were barfing a little at that dinner. Surely Miranda, at least, must have been thinking "Oh FFS, here we go again." Carrie is behaving like an over the top 'smug married' even though they are barely back together. Have they even discussed / resolved anything since their previous attempts at a relationship? Is it just part of her grieving process, trying to re-write history?

I hated her dressing gown coat, one of the worst things she has worn all series.

Has Charlotte had a load of work done between the last episode and this one? Maybe I wasn't looking too closely in the last few episodes but I thought her face was a dreadful combination of puffed up and stretched in this one.

GellerYeller · 03/08/2023 19:10

Off topic but you could see the ‘red brick house in Norfolk like Howard’s End’ issue coming from miles away.
I’m confused by the appliances and utensils for Che’s rental place though. We’re they saying they are gifting them to the house because that was my impression? I’d be buying garlic presses from IKEA in that case. I know, I know, they’re rich…

Muhwanda · 03/08/2023 20:54

Todays was the absolute worst episode! I LOATHE Aidan! How is he so over it all? Big only died a year ago, and so weird two very rich people would stay in Che’s apartment. Urgh.

The only high point of this ep was Seema, and a teeney tiny bit of Miranda remembering she used to have a career. Ugh.

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 03/08/2023 21:24

Yes I'm wondering if there's going to be a thing about Seema and Aiden knowing eachother somehow. The fave she did at Carrie's phone before showing her that she had searched the wrong Norfolk was too much of a face for that.

Totally agree although what who knows. Seema would eat Aiden for breakfast shite jacket and all. Plus she smokes 😂

also Carrie is off the Affected and Rose Tinted Richter Scale. Makes me silently vomit in my mouth. The end scene of her flirting off to some sort of US version of Sandringham with her stiletto mules was risible.

glad Miranda is being recognised for her intelligence and ability. Long time coming in amongst her snuffing her own light out for an individual who cannot even be arsed to buy a pepper grinder.

Needhelp101 · 03/08/2023 21:56

Yeah, this episode was not good. Apart from Anthony and Guiseppe. Found their scenes rather moving.

Che can continue to fuck off. Nobody cares.

tribpot · 03/08/2023 22:11

The Carrie Aidan thing is surely going to end in a car crash for a third time. She was married to Big for something like 15 years, wasn't she? That's a bloody long time not to figure out he was a 'mistake'. This feels more like a desperate attempt to write out even the memory of Chris Noth, not Big. This Grand Romance must be a rebound - him from the divorce and her from Big's death. It's too frenzied.

Have all of them lost the ability to say 'hi, you appear to be detonating your life, is it worth slowing down a little?'. As Carrie and Charlotte should have said to Miranda and as Charlotte and Miranda should now be saying to Carrie.

Seema was the saving grace - very firmly and simply saying 'it's not that I can't do this summer in the Hamptons, it's that I don't want to'. Bloody good for you, Seema. I don't think it's going to turn out that she knows Aidan, there was no flicker of recognition when they met at the restaurant.

How can Miranda be an intern one day and a fully fledged human rights lawyer the next? Why the hell was she interning if she could simply switch specialties?

NeedToThinkOfOne · 03/08/2023 22:34

I completely agree with you @Muhwanda

Plus, I don’t think there’s any chemistry between Carrie and Aidan🤷‍♀️The buying things for the apartment was showing that Aidan is still Mr Homebody, likes to be and feel at home. He talked about his country place with such passion, as he had done about his country shed place in SATC. My money is on Carrie realising that his boys will be his world, not her, and what home means to him is still not how she feels - but I think it’ll be Aidan doing the dumping this time. As for that hug in front of Che (who randomly came back to her apartment), as Carrie declared her big mistake- melodrama much?

I also agree with pp the ‘Big was a mistake’, was to further distance themselves from the actor, not the character.

Hurrah to Miranda in this ep- I’m even going to say, did we glimpse Miranda v1.5? (though I could see that maternity cover offer coming a mile off!)

GellerYeller · 03/08/2023 22:56

Also why did Carrie crack open Che’s beer bottle on the edge of the worktop? Who does that? Surely there’s a tin opener/corkscrew in her drawers next to her sub par spoons?!

I think it is meant to be 2 years since Big’s death? I may have imagined it but she marked the first anniversary in season 1?

Oh I LOVED that and so pleased Anthony is getting a meatier storyline. He’s divine. And far superior to Stanford (sorry Stanny)

Problems this week:

How can Aidan’s eldest son be 20? He was carrying a baby when Carrie bumped into him on her way to her first date with Berger, and Brady was nearly a year old. But now Brady is meant to be 18/19.

How does Miranda go from intern to maternity cover for a practicing lawyer in the space of a few days? She’s basically going back to her old job which she said she hated.

Can’t get my head around the Aidan thing. Big was always Carrie’s weakness, she could never get over him. They were very happily married for many years now she’s had a few orgasms with Aidan and she thinks she married the wrong man? No way.

Aidan in those Lycra pants with his mullet hairstyle in the hotel room really gave me the ick. And stop going on about the chicken climbing stairs bullshit.

Loved Selma’s reaction to Carrie being loved up. She was so right, Samantha is the only other person who would have done that.

Loved the pink dressing gown coat.

WeetabixTowels · 03/08/2023 23:31

Its a big mistake expecting timelines to make sense in SATC/AJLT 😂

Ive said this on the thread before but Miranda was heavily pregnant when Carrie and Aidan split up. Then a while later, Brady is still under 1 and she runs into Aidan who has a baby, had been married and has also dated Nina Katz before his marriage.

So one can fairly assume that Aidan is a time traveller, like in that Richard Burton film About Time, and so are his sons. And the space time continuum has been messed up in some way which makes him a year older than a baby born some time before him.

GellerYeller · 03/08/2023 23:42

@WeetabixTowels thats good to know. I was worried about Che’s (fictional) deposit!

NeedToThinkOfOne · 03/08/2023 23:50

🤣

poorlyarm · 04/08/2023 05:48

I really enjoyed this episode, I thought it felt a bit more SITC although Carrie pisses me off so much!!

I know big was a dick but they were happily married for years... why the fuck would you say that he was a mistake!? She clearly adored him. What a bitch!

Secondly it would really annoy me if I was Che in the apartment situation.. she's a bit skint then you have your fancy friends stay in your apartment and buy loads of stuff which is kind of rude but then for Carrie to go on about the '47 dollar garlic press'.. she's just so self centred.

Lastly, did she just completely forget about her summer in the Hamptons thing with Seema? Who would do that?

She's just such a knob and always has been. 😂

Netaporter · 04/08/2023 06:34

@GellerYeller when Carrie banged off the beer bottle top on the worktop (I couldn’t see a built in bottle top remover) DH turned to me and said ‘Can you imagine how reasonable you’d be if someone did that on our island?’ In this house, dicking about with, or doing something stupid on, the kitchen island is a capital punishment offence 😂

dayswithaY · 04/08/2023 07:29

Friends had similar time travelling issues, birthdays moved and Rachel was pregnant for about a year.

The writers are gaslighting us with this Aidan storyline. The running theme of SATC was the turbulent love story of Carrie and Big. I never liked him but we weren’t meant to understand the attraction that made them both keep coming back together.

Carrie treated Aidan horribly, she had a panic attack and ripped off a wedding dress at the thought of marrying him. The only reason she is able to let go and fully relax with Aidan now is because Big is dead and gone. Her friends are right to be concerned.

Also, Miranda and Charlotte were never that keen on him, Charlotte made comments about his turquoise jewellery and Miranda never warmed to him. Is he still friends/business partners with Steve - and isn’t that awkward for Miranda?

stringbean · 04/08/2023 08:23

Didn't really warm up to this week's episode at all. Too much inane stuff that didn't add anything to the story - chicken, shopping for kitchen items - and not sure why Che still features; just a character for Carrie to draw in from time to time and we're supposed to warm to them now that they're working in a vet's?! Carrie playing true to type - in love with Aidan and abandoned all plans for the Hamptons, having taken wedding-style vows with Seema over it.

It seems Carrie is only happy when she has an element of drama in her life - her romances are all about drama. The push/pull thing with Big, drama of Paris with the Russian, trying to create more drama once she and Big settled down (the dilemma of Aidan in the truly awful SATC2), now that Aidan is back even the shopping is an opportunity for drama. Never liked Big and never understood the attraction he held for Carrie, other than the drama. Aidan was too easy and that unsettled her, so wondering what they're building up to now he's back In the picture. Cannot see Carrie moving out of NYC for him, but equally wonder if they're building up to another Happy Ever After in case season 3 doesn't get the go-ahead (although no idea where any of the characters will go at this stage, in event it does).

Footgoose · 04/08/2023 08:41

i can’t get the shading make up on Aiden’s chest out of my head . His abs and ribs were literally painted on . 😂

GellerYeller · 04/08/2023 08:54

@Netaporter yes, ‘step away from the granite’! It’s all a bit tone deaf- ‘hey Che, thanks for renting me and my dreamy boyfriend your only home as another spare for us. I’ve replaced all your crap wire hangers. Sorry you have to work with anxious turtles. You’ll get it all back when I realise I’m not cut out for step parenting three boys and some chickens’

ReeseWitherfork · 04/08/2023 08:57

I’m going to go against the grain here and say that I’m actually buying the Carrie/Big/Aidan thing. I think Carrie and Aidan could have had a happily ever after in the original series if she’d actually had some closure with Big. She clearly loved Big a lot, and I do think he loved her, but he took so damn long to work it all out that he ended up stringing getting along for years until he got there. And I think she was caught in that “any moment he’ll realise he loves me” situation and for that reason couldn’t let him go. And if she found a way to let him go, I think she could have been happy with Aidan.

Aaaaaaand I really thought they were setting us up for a pregnant Charlotte.
