First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

I like Miriam Shor, the actress who played Miranda’s horrible date, and I am a little disappointed that she won’t be around for future episodes.
I did think the date was funny, though. It was a highlight for me,

thebellagio · 01/08/2023 14:51

Don’t want to go in the apartment cause of bad memories but happy to go in Carrie

just made me laugh out loud and the dog woke up

WilkinsonM · 02/08/2023 06:29

I was reflecting that the Miranda/Che/Miranda not knowing 'which part of LBBTQ+' dating she should be looking at will age AJLT just as much as the all white cast/unPC jokes did to SATC. In 15 years nobody will be using they pronouns or wondering whether liking dick and fanny makes you bi/pan/omni/asexual or whatever micro labels currently exist.
the hand wringing over pronouns and calling lesbians lesbians and bisexuals bisexuals is a peculiarly 2015 onwards trend and like all trends will pass. The writers think they are being so modern and relevant and it's going to age like milk. Worse than the old unPC jokes because at least they were funny 'no E, she had the E cut off' 😆

thebellagio · 02/08/2023 07:28

Your not wrong @WilkinsonM

but why can’t Miranda just be bisexual. Even she admitted she was just attracted to Che’s energy, so why the drama?

Exactly!
and if she was only attracted to Che, not women in general, why is she now looking to date women? And if she was attracted to Che because Che is female, how does she not view herself as bisexual?

TammyJones · 02/08/2023 12:16

Agreed.
Miranda really loved Steve.

the episode when they got back together after Debbie was great
and the bit at the end of the second SATC film, when they agreed to meet on the bridge if wanted to give their marriage another go was brilliant.
they had just got into a rut in AJLT
this can happen in long terms marriages : relationships.
it would have been nice to see them work through it.
Maybe they will unless there’s been just too much under the bridge.

Enjoyed the latest episode but agree with much of the above. I did find it weird that it was assumed Aidan & Carrie's meet up was to pursue a romance straight away. Surely they would have lots to discuss first.

He was looking good but much older than the second film when he scooped her up in the spice market.

His tantrum on the step I think was a nod to their original date 'I can't date a smoker'. Over the top though.

Also thrilled that Charlotte will return to work and hopefully crack down on her two brats.

Miranda did look great in the purple dress. I hope she doesn't shut off men for good. Original Miranda wouldn't have put up with that date - remember the phone sex man with crossed wires?

Youdoyoutoday · 02/08/2023 19:15

I've read a few articles this week about what a crap friend carrie is and its all so true.

She is so selfish, self serving!

She sent aiden to help Miranda then turned up with her bullshit bagel!
The whole Charlotte's engagement ring for her flat fiasco!
Judging Samantha on more than one occasion!
Selfishly speaks of herself when Stanford was trying to about himself and they guy he just met!

Other things that annoying me about her is how she can't seem to have an adult conversation, how did she get married, sell books etc when she had to slide off a bed to get away from wrist guy's partner, just say, I'll get him to ring you back!
She needed round the clock care after her hip operation, so instead of hiring a carers, not like she doesn't have the money, Charlotte and Miranda have to drop everything and help her!
Doesn't want to deal with Mirandas drinking when Charlotte spoke about it.

The more I think about it, the more it annoys me! And all those bloody outfits would not fit in that wardrobe! The massive wedding dress! The box took up half the bedroom when it was delivered! And the snow coat!! God give me strength!

But I'll still be bloody watching tomorrow morning!

dayswithaY · 03/08/2023 07:31

The engagement ring thing with Charlotte always confused me. Carrie was whining about how she had no money as she had spent it all on shoes and a newly separated Charlotte sat in silence. Later Carrie turned up at her apartment - bit aggressive - to have a go at her for not offering to sell her ring and lend her the cash. Why should she? And then Charlotte gave in and we were all supposed to think that Charlotte had grown as a person for being so generous. How about Carrie face up to the consequences of her actions instead?

And then when Berger dumped her by Post-it note she went out to celebrate Charlotte’s engagement to Harry and covered the ring with the Post-it to prove that men are shit!

I could go on, even though I still love Carrie.

Lots of newer (younger) viewers are noticing how selfish Carrie is, but I think they’ve toned her down and made her kinder for AJLT.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 03/08/2023 09:17

I love Carrie too.. despite how bloody irritating she can be! One of the main things I don't get about her is she writes about sex but never gets involved in the girls conversations about it. She seems almost prudish at times.. like when Samantha showed her her orange muff at Bradys party she nearly passed out in shock! But Samantha was quite happy to dig around in Carries vagina to sort her iud out or whatever the issue was.

I'm just watching the one where she falls out with the Russian because he keeps talking about his friend that died of cancer. When he explains at the end of the episode it's because he doesn't want her to be surprised if anything happens to her.. she says 'well why didn't you say that?' Because you shut him down and flounced off every time he tried to broach it that's why!!

Youdoyoutoday · 03/08/2023 09:28

I actually enjoyed today's episode after my little rant yesterday. Carrie seemed... nicer! It's almost like she had an epiphany, did she really make a big mistake?
I liked the way she actually had a serious but brief chat with Seema, not wanting to lose her as a friend. Is Carrie finally growing up?

Other things I like
Completely on side with menopause belly story line, I like how Charlotte found herself again and dumped the spanx.
Miranda seems to be more settled, more her old self.
Anthony, oh my, really looking forward to seeing where that goes!

Didn't like
Che, though they aren't as bad now as before.
Do Carrie and Aiden really need to rent a place and then spend 47 dollars on a garlic press? It seems a bit trying to hard, whirlwind, look at us, arent we great? I'm not sure about it, if I'm honest. However, I did always prefer Aiden in past to Big.
And those brats of Charlotte's, they're so mean to her.

Overall, much better!

Netaporter · 03/08/2023 09:29

Have watched Ep 8. So much to unpack…

Spoiler alert for Ep8

hits
-LTW fabulous yellow cape and purple suede boots 😍
-Charlotte double Spanxing (been there many a time)
-Aidan still wearing the coat but looking less like a French gendarme this week
-Anthony having a ‘ghost’ moment. Genius.
-Seema’s wardrobe this week
Carrie’s silver crushed velvet boots 😍
-Miranda’s work colleagues- totally reminds me why I preferred to work in a predominantly male industry.
-Charlotte finally goes back to work….

Misses
-Che. Just fuck off. No one cares. Was hoping she’d mess with Carrie’s shoes and then that’d be that. No such luck.
-Miranda suddenly forgetting how to act at work…. And giving life advice to Carrie.
-The Aidan storyline. Lovely but surely he’d have told her to fuck off and also suddenly Big is not the live of her life (as per the book she wrote about it all?)

All in all if we can forgive the writers for forgetting LTW’s Dad was already dead, this series is shaping up nicely.

Youdoyoutoday · 03/08/2023 09:30

Yes daisy, Carrie did always seem a bit prudish for someone who wrote a column called SATC

Netaporter · 03/08/2023 09:31

Ooh and how can I forget the AWFUL dressing gown coat Carrie was wearing and Miranda’s Brown/Purple get up.

Youdoyoutoday · 03/08/2023 09:33

@Netaporter yes I thought Carrie was going to find Che dressing up in her clothes! 🤣

WeetabixTowels · 03/08/2023 10:12

So I WFH and skived off a bit to watch the first part of the episode 🤣
TBH…this Aidan thing is great and it’s wonderful to see him back, and being very Aidan with his sexy drawls and hulking great body.
But it’s gone from 0 to 100 - one episode and suddenly she thinks Aidan is the love of her life and Big was a mistake?! Really?

Although I have to say - this is the epiphany I have longed for since she met him. Big was a twat and treated her terribly throughout all seasons and both movies. No doubt if he hadn’t died, he’d have been a twat in AJLT.

heartofglass23 · 03/08/2023 10:17

Lisa in a bum bag?!? No No No!

Netaporter · 03/08/2023 10:32

@heartofglass23 tbh, the bumbag gave me grotbag vibes. The yellow and purple combo was gorgeous. It did not need the green bag unless she was off to star in Wicked afterwards. She also needs to ditch the Claudia Winkleman length fringe.

8misskitty8 · 03/08/2023 11:10

Carrie is loading me off now.
Suddenly years later and after he dies she thinks she made a mistake choosing big ?
She had other men inbetween the aiden break up and getting back together with big and marrying him.
No summer in the Hamptons. Dropped Seema without telling her.
Bloody rude buying heaps of stuff for someone else’s apartment that you are staying in every other week because the guy you are seeing can’t bring himself to go into your apartment. Yet as I said previously he’s fine shagging Carrie though.

8misskitty8 · 03/08/2023 11:11

*pissing, bloody autocorrect.

happywotsit · 03/08/2023 13:02

The episode was a bit empty for me.

Didn’t like the clothes. Miranda’s office brown outfit was awful. So was Carrie’s dressing gown coat as she walked past Trinity Church. I loved Seema’s outfit as she walked into the restaurant though.

Do Seema and Aiden know each other and are not letting on?

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 03/08/2023 13:12

I'm bored by the whole thing now and hope they let it rest after this series ends.

WeetabixTowels · 03/08/2023 14:24

I loved Seema setting her boundaries. I wish the other women had done the same during the TV series and not withstood her ego centric BS.

WeetabixTowels · 03/08/2023 14:26

It also feels like history is being rewritten.

Carrie in this episode said it didn’t work out because she made a mistake all those years ago.

However she was so unbelievably un-remorseful in the series about cheating on Aidan to the point she refused to back off with her friendship with Big and actually invited the man she had an affair with on their bloody holiday! And very dead set against marrying Aidan despite saying she would. Why the sudden 180?!
