A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

You know what I’ve noticed, no one ever gets pregnant in this, unlike Grand Designs. Further leading me to think that Kevin McCloud is a fertility god.

😂😂😂

Halsall · 08/08/2023 20:48

Wow, this is going to be £££££.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:48

Bless the grey filter.

strawthatbrokethecamelsback · 08/08/2023 20:49

£300k

Meredusoleil · 08/08/2023 20:50

So they have no bathroom downstairs now and instead have a boot/cloak room?!?

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:50

I think Laura moved the bathroom further down the 28m hallway.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:51

A pantry! I am well jel.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:52

There's a bit of a gap between the glass doors and the worktop so you could get a vacuum cleaner down there to deal with any dead bugs, so that's sensible.

Meredusoleil · 08/08/2023 20:52

Love those bifold doors.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:53

I would trip up that little stair carrying dinner every single night.

Halsall · 08/08/2023 20:53

It’s a pity the expensive kitchen opens out onto a not very nice fence and the house next door - they’ve got a lawn and a garden, haven’t they?

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 20:56

Final spends!!!

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:57

£310k. Bloody hell.

Meredusoleil · 08/08/2023 20:58

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:57

£310k. Bloody hell.

Indeed!

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 20:58

I was way off!

strawthatbrokethecamelsback · 08/08/2023 20:59

Well I was only £10k off

blimey 😦

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:59

To be fair, the end result was gorgeous, and they'll absolutely sell it for a fortune when they do.

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 21:00

Next week looks interesting too.

PriamFarrl · 08/08/2023 21:02

It was lovely, and a great space but bloody hell, £310k, that’s more than my house!

FeelingPrickly · 08/08/2023 21:12

I absolutely love that they’ve actually stuck to the design and it works beautifully. Presumably at some point they’ll do the courtyard up a bit but other than that it’s just gorgeous even down to the beautiful wallpaper. Don’t know if anyone realised though that the hall is 28m long 😆

RonSwansonsChair · 08/08/2023 22:23

Definitely right to go with Laura's design. What was with Julian's wooden box chairs? They looked sooooo uncomfortable 😬

I love how they went with every aspect of Laura's design, even down to the wallpaper. Great result, but OMG it was expensive!

LadyVF · 08/08/2023 23:04

‘The build’ cost was £310k - my pondering was does that include the floor, the kitchen, the soft furnishings etc… or just the actual structural stuff?

CrossPurposes · 08/08/2023 23:20

Why was the piano and a sofa left in the living room?
And for all that money could they not have levelled up the kitchen and living area floors?

I loved Laura’s design but didn’t love the purplish/grey entrance hall. I thought the original kitchen design with the brass fronts on the tall units was better also. Even after spending £310k (plus the £80k future proofing the running costs) I was surprised they’d run out of money for the mezzanine area which looked like it was unfinished.

Julian lost me at the weird 90’s wood kitchen hatch/bifold doors I’m afraid.

I’ve been watching ‘Hack my Home’ on Netflix. If you can ignore the very American homeowners and strange designers there are some good ideas for spatial design. One episode involved a bespoke folding staircase which would’ve been a great alternative to the trippy-uppy drunk stairs Laura installed to the mezzanine this week.

MichaelAndEagle · 09/08/2023 06:20

Yes I've been watching that too Netaporter.
Some really good ideas.
