A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

OP posts:

Swap the living and dining areas, surely.

Halsall · 08/08/2023 20:22

I do not like that little wooden curtain 😑

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 20:22

I don't mind the layout, makes sense to knock the kitchen through, but I don't like the styling and the hard surfaces.
I don't think she likes it much.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:27

Imagine how many surfaces you have to dust in that barn house.

Meredusoleil · 08/08/2023 20:27

That spiral staircase has got to go imho.

I think the kitchen should be where the living and dining areas are, ie all across the back of the house.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:28

I missed what the budget was - did anyone catch it?

PriamFarrl · 08/08/2023 20:29

How about telling your children not to jump off the stairs, rather than just sitting there?

RandomMess · 08/08/2023 20:29

£200k

😬😳

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:30

Golly. That IS a large budget.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:31

I like that. Looks gorgeous.

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 20:33

Yes that's much better! Lovely.

Keeping the kitchen where it is, they don't have to move the services, drains etc which always costs £££

Meredusoleil · 08/08/2023 20:35

I prefer Laura's layout buy not all the black frames. Julian's wood effect is much lighter a d more pleasant. Really don't like either of Laura's staircases. Especially that 'secret' one. Why do they need two staircases anyway?!?

Exactly what I was thinking 🙄

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 20:37

The stairs in the living room go to a mezzanine that doesn't join up with the rest of the upstairs I think.

Something that always strikes me is that the women’s design (in my opinion) is always the best

Yes I agree. The men often come up with more OTT designs that are less practical and conducive to family living.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:40

The women are usually much more practical, like they've remembered to think about what it would be like to actually live in the space rather than as an exercise in clever architecture.

strawthatbrokethecamelsback · 08/08/2023 20:41

Yep I just feel with men it’s a lot about ego whereas a woman’s design looks as the practical living as well as design

Yes. I get the feeling that the female designers, especially Laura, know what it’s like to run a house.

PriamFarrl · 08/08/2023 20:43

I can’t help but think about all the insects and muck that’ll get stuck between that glass door and the kitchen unit.

MichaelAndEagle · 08/08/2023 20:45

Who wins and whats the final bill?

I'm saying Laura and 260k

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:45

At least you can open them to clean it. Grin

strawthatbrokethecamelsback · 08/08/2023 20:46

Thank god they went with Laura

GrouchyKiwi · 08/08/2023 20:47

It's going to be £300,000.

PriamFarrl · 08/08/2023 20:47

You know what I’ve noticed, no one ever gets pregnant in this, unlike Grand Designs. Further leading me to think that Kevin McCloud is a fertility god.
