@Binglebong, thanks, I enjoyed reading that. What a lovely relationship Matthew had with his Nan.

Piggywaspushed · 22/06/2023 18:49

I've just watched on catch up. I liked tis week, probably because I can't sew! I really liked This is a Dress. I could see someone making a statement and wearing it to a posh frocks do like the Oscars. Wasn't keen on the Goth numbers. I thought Fauve's was made better by the veil and would have liked the model to have had wild make up.

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/06/2023 18:52

I'm watching it again now, as I fell asleep during the programme last night.

😕

. . . and now the dog has farted . . . 😳. . . dear God!

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/06/2023 19:25

Ok - IMO - wrong Tony left (I liked them both, but thought other Tony was weaker this week) and that GoW was rubbish!

Agree with others that this week wasn't as engrossing as it could have been.

FriendsDrinkBook · 23/06/2023 04:23

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this already , but all seasons of sewing nee are back on iplayer for a further 11 months.

FriendsDrinkBook · 23/06/2023 04:24

Nee? 😂

Maireas · 23/06/2023 07:36

That was before it took it's married name 😉

Thanks for that. Not sure if we saw the first ones at all and would happily rewatch the others.

I watched them all during lockdown. Hadn't watched before. Esme only came in for series 3, from memory. Before that they had another woman judge, whose name escapes me.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/06/2023 08:29

May Martin was the other judge on seasons 1 to 3.

Esme in particular is fab, but I think the challenges i the earlier series were better on the whole - and there didn't seem to be the need for "characters" to the same degree.

I quite liked her

I find Esme annoying and her diction is odd

FriendsDrinkBook · 23/06/2023 14:13

All three judges are great , but I do prefer earlier series because the challenges were to make and reuse things that we wear every day. I took up sewing (after a 20 year break) during the series that Serena won due to being inspired by the beautiful things they made. When I watch the current series I don't have thew urge to buy a pattern or draft something as almost everything is impractical. That's why I mentioned earlier the Netflix show next in fashion , it's entertaining , but focuses more on impact than sewing skills. It does the contestants a disservice too as they're all really talented to have even got on the show.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 23/06/2023 15:01

Sewing Bee has gone the way of Bake Off. The latter used to be about home bakers, highly skilled at making cakes and bread, being challenged to show those skills to the best of their ability, and then push themselves in terms of timing, perfection and decorating skills, whilst still producing something recognisable as good baking. Now it's all about personalities, many of them don't have basic skills (I recall one contestant never having made Genoa cake, for example) and being able to make something extreme and often ridiculous, so far removed from everyday baking as to be pointless.

Binglebong · 23/06/2023 15:11

Well said.

jay55 · 23/06/2023 15:20

@MoirasSaggyBundles totally agree.
The canvas challenge was like the ridiculous technicals making obscure things no one has heard of or would want to eat.

The program makers need to understand the audience are not thrill seekers, we're not after new new new and are more than happy with a repeated challenge. We want warm and cosy.

slytherinabout · 23/06/2023 18:26

I know I'm late to the party and forgive me if I've already missed a post (I couldn't see one!) but why were Esme and Patrick filmed separately for the feedback for challenge 3 this week? Anyone else notice?

I noticed that too though there was one shot of them both there. It was very odd.

Brefugee · 23/06/2023 18:42

i thought that at one point too. Weird.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/06/2023 20:35

I've just caught up with the episode and I thought Tony NotPostie had to go as he was poorest on the day on 2 out of 3 challenges. It's a shame because I thought he was a bit of a dark horse and could have been there for the final. Fauve was cringeworthy with all the Patrick stuff. She must be embarrassed now watching herself.
I did think the theme of the week was a load of nonsense and hope we get to see some proper sewing next week.

You are so tight - and it destroys the very ethos which makes the show so popular in the first place.

I like to see good food (garments) well made, and a lovely atmosphere of camaraderie. I don't care whether people are gay or straight or whatever, but I do want them to be able to cook (or sew). I like to know their job but I'm not particularly interested in their background/ home life/ passion for iguanas, and I get very peeved when the nans are wheeled on.

Just give me a cake (pair of dungarees) superbly made, and let me enjoy the show.

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/06/2023 21:39

*RIGHT, not tight

I have only noticed this in the current series, I wondered if she had had a minor stroke . I hope not.
