Beautiful @Spudlet

I'm sure you've had lots of compliments already.

Spudlet · 18/06/2023 18:44

Thank you @Binglebong @FriendsDrinkBook - I’m honestly dead proud of it because I am really just a beginner and do struggle, so having something that genuinely looks good at the end of it is amazing! How the contestants made those bags or anything else in a few hours is beyond me though - just cutting out the fabric took me a whole school day and it took me three tries to get the zip pocket assembled correctly. And I bent one needle and had to sew the straps adjuster buckle on by hand because the machine couldn’t cope with all those layers of fabric 😂 The idea of doing all that under pressure and with an audience is extremely alarming!

Nameinspirationneeded · 18/06/2023 19:02

Wow that’s great @Spudlet i can’t sew or anything practical so full of admiration not just those at Sewing Bee level.

Clymene · 18/06/2023 19:04

Wow that's lovely @Spudlet!

FriendsDrinkBook · 18/06/2023 19:30

There's nothing wrong with taking your time. Iirc Ricardo from series 5 said on Instagram that his m2m coat looked like a coat that had been made in 6 hours , so they do sacrifice quality for speed often on the show. I spent about 10 hours cutting and making a lined jacket and I see myself as someone that works quite quickly.

NutellaEllaElla · 18/06/2023 19:42

Beautiful backpack @Spudlet , very well done. I've not made a bag before and it's on my to do list.

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/06/2023 19:54

When I make something I spend hours just thinking about it before I even start cutting out.

Well I can recommend this pattern if you want to make a backpack when it comes back into stock (sewing bee effect, anyone?!)

https://thefoldline.com/product/noodlehead-range-backpack/

I was a bit thrown by it having no pattern pieces (it’s just lots of rectangles so I can see why) and that is why it took me so long to cut out - I couldn’t find a ruler so I was using my tape measure and an a4 folder as a straight edge so I wa s ring super careful! But it was straightforward and the instructions were very clear.

Noodlehead Range Backpack - The Fold Line

Buy the Range Backpack sewing pattern from Noodlehead. A fun and practical foldover style backpack with a zippered front pocket.

I know @CaptainMyCaptain

The idea of being given an unfamiliar pattern and being told to choose fabric , cut and sew it up in 3 hours fills me with horror. I can literally only do these things in a short space of time if it's simple and familiar.

MouseMinge · 19/06/2023 02:28

@Spudlet you did an amazing job! I hope it fills you with confidence for future projects.

I'm quite excited because I have a machine but haven't sewn forever and was never particularly good, but I've enrolled in a six week summer course for beginners at a local college starting next month. I'm going to work hard to get quite good.

Emotionalsupportviper · 19/06/2023 05:48

I'm really impressed @Spudlet - it looks lovely. Both practical and stylish.

I often spend so long thinking that the cutting out never happens

Looking forward to this week's installment

They kind of know in advance I think - vaguely rather than exactly what.
But yeah - very stressful

That sounds very familiar....Blush

Your bag is fab @Spudlet, well done!

Not too fond of the crochet challenge tbh, so many lumpy looking outfits and just a bit of a waste of some gorgeous blankets tbh

FriendsDrinkBook · 20/06/2023 19:36

The crochet m2m was definitely an odd choice. The previous ones like using old jeans , duvet covers , curtains etc were far more realistic as you genuinely do see these in charity shops and cupboards everywhere. I'd like to see old t shirts used in future m2m rounds. Active wear from old shirts would be a great test of skill. Let them use new lining and notions and they could make something beautiful.

viques · 20/06/2023 21:17

Spudlet · 18/06/2023 18:01

I do 😊

It’s lined in the same leafy fabric - the pattern also wanted me to use that for the straps and hanging loop, but I decided to keep that in the main red fabric and I’m glad I did as it’s made the straps thick and therefore very comfy for a long day. It’s easiest the best thing I’ve ever made in terms of it turning out as the pattern said it should 😂

Wow, that is amazing. I made a shoe bag once ( to be fair I had also made the shoes) but it was nothing in comparison.

MoltenLasagne · 20/06/2023 22:55

Checking in for tomorrow!

@viques - how on earth do you make shoes?.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/06/2023 05:38

Now picturing @viques looking something like this.
