But of course the big question is, will Arabella Weir move in two doors down?

They can't get rid of The Rovers surely?!

This sure the entire soap works around it so its gonna have to be a thing where its bought over or kept and this has been a sudden drama over nowt. The rovers has been the hub from the start. I think maybe at best it is a 'stuffing' script till something better happens or Jenny is leaving but the pub itself going would be madness considering the history.

lollipoprainbow · 09/08/2023 01:19

Just caught up. The old guy singing 'shout'was dire especially at the beginning, as was all the regulars grooving along As though he was so good, utter cringe!!

Two funny parts: Bernie getting her hands on Todd's coccyx and Daisy asking Glenda to sing 'my heart will go on' as old guy is wheeled through on a stretcher.

AutumnCrow · 09/08/2023 05:33

Daisy has improved massively since her accent settled in a bit!

It was deliberate though wasn't it?
They were overdoing it to support Jenny
Lots of OTT dancing and faces a bit 😬
Like WTF but they had to play along

I can't see how she's improved much. She was awful when she arrived and hasn't changed much as far as I can see.

Without googling, does anyone know what Billy prayerhands surname is? Realised today I had no idea!

woodhill · 09/08/2023 18:01

Bag?

Metcalfe??

AutumnCrow · 09/08/2023 18:05

I can't remember Paul's though

DaisyStarburst · 09/08/2023 18:24

Billy Mayhew, Paul Foreman

FeltCarrot · 09/08/2023 18:56

It had me thinking about all the iconic characters and I knew all there surnames…but for the life of me couldn’t remember Billy’s.

After watching Classic Corrie today, I’d love for Candice to come back. Her friendship with Sarah was really well played with all the falling out and making up again.

eddiemairswife · 09/08/2023 19:44

I think Candice has changed her name and moved to Cheshire.

AutumnCrow · 09/08/2023 20:18

Adam's oily hair has become unruly to signify his impending divorce

The hotel is like a posh ginnel. Full of people with the wrong people

Didn't she go off with Status Quo to be their on-tour hairdresser?

Whatever happened to Chesney's burger plan?

Oooh, oooh… maybe Sean could trip over one of George’s model ships and fall down the stairs, leaving him unable to prepare the all-important hotpot. Jenny despairs at this latest blow to the Rovers, until Gemma has the bright idea of Chesney taking over the kitchen and making his gourmet burgers.

The burgers are a huge hit and the new gastro Rovers is packed out. Henry Newton, spotting an opportunity, makes an offer for the recipes, but Chesney and Gemma hold firm and decide they’d rather live in poverty never claiming benefits forever. Meanwhile, Sean recovers and throws a hissy fit when Jenny wants to keep Chesney on. To solve the issue, the two go head to head to see which sells more: burgers or hotpot.

Betty’s Hotpot becomes a surprise hit with the hipster crowd, who praise it as simple but flavoursome peasant food. The Rovers is busier than ever. In an attack of conscience over trying to steal Gemma (a bit like when Grotbags used to turn nice in the Rod Hull and Emu Christmas Special), Henry makes a large cash donation to Steve’s crowdfunder, meaning Jenny can keep Sean AND Chesney on and the Rovers is saved!!

Two weeks later, all the hipsters have gone and it’s back to Evelyn and Roy buying a small brandy and an orange juice, but this doesn’t seem to affect the profits and everything goes on as normal.

Candice and Sarah could share the apartment and both forget about Harry.
Id love to have the Rovers in my street and be skint but still pop in for a vodka and tonic.

Deadringer · 10/08/2023 12:12

That sounds perfect WomanStanleyWoman2 Rovers as a gastro pub with Chesney's amazing burgers would be great, would be the end of the bistro though, and lots of sad faced Nick and fishwife Leanne, ah well, you can't win 'em all.
Why isn't Jenny making more of the elastic rooms upstairs, they used to do B&B didn't they, she could keep things ticking over with that. (Glenda can sling her hook)

Yes I wondered about the b and b too.

MichaelAndEagle · 10/08/2023 12:34

Unless I've missed it, no attempt seems to have been made to draw customers in. It complete relies on locals popping in.
They should do food, and music nights, a quiz with prosecco night, offer coffee etc during the day. Attract some work from homers. Refresh the interior etc.
Pubs like that just can't make it work anymore.
Can they stock craft ales and things or are they tied to the brewery?
Clearly they're not going to let it go, its integral to corrie so some solution will be found, but I do think it needs to modernise a bit.

eggandonion · 10/08/2023 12:40

Henry could establish a micro brewery and marry deedee. And buy a house in Grasmere Drive near Audrey. Id like a hipster invasion. Better than the influx of right wing extremists.

thenightsky · 10/08/2023 12:40

Bottomless brunches!

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 10/08/2023 12:47

Craft and local ales would make perfect sense for someone like the Rovers. There was a storyline from the late 90s that aired on Classic Corrie a couple of years ago where Natalie’s boyfriend sold his home brew through the pub and Newton and Ridley threatened to charge for use of the pumps and barrels - they could easily recycle that plot somehow.

Does anyone else quite like Henry Newton? He’s quite comical in a posh boy out of his depth way. I liked it when he asked Gemma if she was cross-bred with a rabbit (or words to that effect). He could just pop up occasionally as a comedic villain.
