But of course the big question is, will Arabella Weir move in two doors down?

The microphone still live was CRINGE... and both supposedly seasoned performers, as if. I've experienced it happening (not a pub gig, a conference) but that was frazzled inexperienced speakers and a few seconds until someone grabbed the mic and switched it off. (No grim revelations, just a really big fart!)

What if all the forgotten dropped threads and facts re-surfaced...

Georges house... gets squatters?
We seem to have forgotten all Stephens murders except the nasty slimeball coke head... zombie uprising on the cobbles?
Nina suddenly remembers shes a designer at t'Factreh...
Roys dog seems to have vanished, as has Steve McDonalds... they'll have puppies of course (it will be a mistake on the vets part, and Roys mutt isn't snipped at all)...
Gemma and Chesney suddenly remember their house has not got that many bloody bedrooms.

I must have zoned out and missed the bit where Glenda becomes the singers heir. How did that happen?

Clawdy · 08/08/2023 08:09

Think that was just a jokey prediction.

AutumnCrow · 08/08/2023 08:23

Unless the writers / producers / directors want the Rovers gone? We’ve been saying on here for ages how it’s been wound down as a set.

It’s always a half-empty pub, or worse.

Which may be true to life I suppose - but this is a soap opera and I don’t watch it to see a documentary about post-Covid economic urban decline. I want to see Glenda belting out a number occasionally while customers have banter and drama and swap gossip. I want entertainment, that’s well written, with some actual characters.

Or turn it back into a proper ‘gritty northern drama’ and allow some realism, I.e. Gemma and Chesney discover the benefit system.

I think it (the programme) doesn’t know what it is at the moment.

Lorrymum · 08/08/2023 08:30

Whatever happened to Chesney's burger plan?

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 08/08/2023 11:48

I was thinking Rita could save the day and inject some cash into the Rovers or become a silent partner. She has form for giving large sums of cash to people. Jenny is her adoptive daughter isn’t she? Unless Rita lost all her money during the period I stopped watching.

I’m a bit dubious as to how attractive a small back street boozer is going to be to property developers too. Closed-down pubs often stay boarded up for years. But it’s a bit of a cliché of a story so I guess that’s where we’re going.

eggandonion · 08/08/2023 14:07

Im sure it will be alright. By the end of August.

Ah but then Ed Bailey came along with his magical building skills! He'll have that pub converted into flats for divorcee Sarah (or Adam?) in no time!

And I suppose Jenny will have to live somewhere ...

Very much agree with this, Corrie has really lost its way and all it’s charm, I did see a small glimmer of what it used to be when Paul was talking to Bernie, that was very touching but the rest of it is just dire.

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/08/2023 14:32

Changing the planning on pubs from public houses to dwelling only is not easy at all... not that they'll stick to reality but I can't actually see them losing the Rovers at all.

The storylines do seem to be spectacularly shit lately and its not just the rovers where theres not many people in, Roys rolls too, the factory.

I think they changed things significantly during covid, having less actors in at any one time. This was probably cheaper and they haven't moved completely back to normal, thinking they're getting away with it... but it just gives another level of unbelievable to the whole thing really.

Horrifyingly, I'm starting to warm to Dev, things are that bad.

aflix · 08/08/2023 15:56

@AutumnCrow I believe there are support groups for this type of thing.

AutumnCrow · 08/08/2023 16:13

Oh god, Alahan Anonymous beckons.

I just spat out my coffee. That is not even normal behaviour.

PurpleButterflyWings · 08/08/2023 16:32

I thought last night's Corrie was a really good episode. Confused

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/08/2023 17:18

What would be the point of sinking more money into a struggling backstreet pub with five customers?

They need to get Gordon Ramsay in to give it a makeover.

Heliotroper · 08/08/2023 18:49

Somebody will get some windfall cash like an inheritance or lottery win and buy it.

Then it will carry on.exactly like it is but the problems will magically disappear.

Heliotroper · 08/08/2023 18:52

Or Glenda could sue the brewery for sexual harrassment

Yes and still the Rovers will be practically empty at all times. What ever happened to the lunchtime rush when Corrie had all the factory staff descend, Janice, Hayley, Fizz, Karen and a host of extras, plus Kevin and Tyrone from the garage and Rita and Norris from the Cabin to name but a few, all fighting their way to get served, all the characters interacting. I think the scriptwriters have been reading these threads and have come up with the ‘Rovers in trouble’ storyline to cover their backsides.

Ah that ties up the whole Glenda and the new Irish man who used to be famous so. He is dying and she will inherit and buy the pub and employ the others.

JellyBeanFactory · 08/08/2023 21:12

Either Glenda's elderly singing fella will come up with the cash or Gemma will "persuade" Ridley Jnr to invest.

What about Damon returning? That would stir it up! Or the chap Addi is working for?

Deadringer · 08/08/2023 21:40

It would be daft to turn the rovers into housing, they have enough houses and appartments on the street, even if everyone is squashed into about 3 of them. 🙄the Rovers is invaluable as a place for the characters to meet up, have parties etc. Maybe Stephen will scrounge some money from somewhere (or pretend to) so he can sniff around Jenny 24/7.

Heliotroper · 08/08/2023 21:41

George could flog his house and buy it

JellyBeanFactory · 08/08/2023 23:39

Ooh, just thought - where are Ed and his brother Ron building/developing now? What did Debbie do with her share of The Bistro that Leanne/Nick bought? Could they together perhaps buy/redevelop The Rovers?
