Ive been watching old episodes of Steptoe and Son on Thats TV and they put a disclaimer across the top of the screen at the start of each episode but they still cut some dialogue

I liked Gail’s hair here too. I assume it’s her natural curl, or an unstyled perm at least. Looks much nicer than the normal blow-dried look.

I don’t remember the character of Harry but remember the Quo being in it, weirdly.

I assumed Gail was supposed to have rushed out of the shower or bath with half-rinsed hair, given she was in her dressing gown and Sarah had to wait a long time for her to open the door.

Oh my god! Eileen going full Sarah hatred when she’s carrying her grandchild! Wow! All sympathy for Todd disappeared when he pinned his pregnant girlfriend to the sofa and shook her. Fred deserves all he gets for this stupidity no sympathy, he met her a week ago and he’s proposing after he proposed to Penny a month (ish) ago.. I also have no recollection of Harry flag either.

I get that Todd's behaviour has been awful towards Sarah and why they would be against him

@x2boys in the part of the north I lived in 20 years ago I remember words and phrases like poof/poofter, gay boy, faggot etc thrown about.

My mum still lives there and recently told me in hushed tones, over the phone, about how a friend had told her another friend was... pause... gay. Then proceeded to tell me how it wasn't a problem because she loves Graham Norton

I think things were bad in the early 2000s. Certainly when I was in school (late 90s) people would have very much spoken like Jason. And all the stuff about it being disgusting etc. found it quite distressing to watch! I know some people still think that way but I don’t anyone who would think or at least say that out loud.

Sarah’s family don’t care that Todd is gay, it’s the betrayal. I can totally imagine people like Jason, Kirk, Tyrone, Les and to a lesser extent Ashley, Kevin, Martin etc. being all ‘backs to the wall’ around Todd

I’m not really sure why Katie’s getting such a hard time. I thought she was quite mature about it all. Gail’s hardly one to talk, storming round there in her dressing gown for a cat fight in the street, meanwhile Martin’s there with his hazelnut rinse and head wobble talking about keeping his back to the wall. What was she supposed to do exactly?

Yes Katie was quite conflicted and she did try and warn Sarah and Martin wasent exactly mature about Karl being gay
That being said I did think she quite enjoyed the drama of it all but she was 17 what did Martin expect??
Martin was in Sarah's life since she was two so I'm sure he did feel like he was her dad but choosing to have a relationship with her friend wasn't a good move.

I think Katie was stuck between a rock and a hard place… they needed to get her and maritns mucky storyline back into relevance . at the time gay men were definitely called benders. It was the ladette and lad culture. Drinking lager and train spotting. Womens worth was measured on how many pints she could sink and still have perky boobs.
