Place your bets for how many years out of date the storylines in the title will be by the end of the thread… 😁

It’s been driving me mad for about 25 years that Nick has a totally different accent to the rest of his family and the street. Why!!!

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 07/10/2023 04:12

Peter is really a pathetic specimen isn’t he. How did he get 2 more women to marry him?

Same reason David has a Yorkshire accent and his family have Manchester accents?

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 07/10/2023 09:58

yes I have noticed that but why is Nick posh?? That annoys me more for some reason!

Edited

Maybe because he spent a few years with rich uncle Stephen in Canada ?
I don't watch modern corrie, but I believe he's turned from a kindly generous uncle only seen or mentioned occasionally into a mass murderer😂

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 07/10/2023 10:46

I think he was posh before. Anyway it’s obviously just Adam/Ben’s real accent but annoys me nonetheless.

yes i don’t watch modern Corrie either but I saw a few minutes of Tina O’Brien and the actor that plays Stephen being interviewed yesterday on some morning show and they were talking about when he was a benevolent uncle figure!

TennisWithDeborah · 08/10/2023 15:06

Just watching Friday’s ep - Mad Maya has arrived! I’d remembered she was a solicitor but I couldn’t recall how she was introduced.

thenightsky · 08/10/2023 16:09

OMG, I thought I recognised the face and name. I'd forgotten she becomes 'mad' Maya.

sweetblue · 10/10/2023 07:52

Just a couple of episodes behind, the Roy & Tracy ultrasound scene made me cringe 🤢

Is this just a short appearance, and she becomes a main character in future? I vaguely recall she is in a relationship with Dev? Was this before or after Sunita?

I know sluff or summut 😂bless him he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer .

Topictwenty · 10/10/2023 15:52

Anyone else hate how Katie growls her words when she gets angry?!

Andthereyougo · 10/10/2023 17:08

I suppose at least she doesn’t do the heavy breathing. Tommy and Ange seemed to be trying to outdo each other on that front.

And every time Martin said “Tommy” I heard Bobby Ball.

x2boys · 10/10/2023 17:12

The whole storyline is just bloody awful
Tommy's.a thug.but tbh if a,women twice the age of my16 year old son wss pursuing him , I would feel exactly the same.

I said something like this, to DH! Stephen was a kind, generous, helpful, and wealthy-ish uncle for some decades, and they brought him over for a bigger role, (several years ago,) and have turned him into a mass murdering psychopath. 😱 I wonder why they did that?

Bit like Tim's dad. He was a kindly, friendly, jovial hospital DJ, and they turned him into a psychotic, possessive, controlling arsehole who nearly ruined Yasmeen's life.

Same with Richard Hillman. Was a nice, friendly, happy-go-lucky family man (and was Alma's cousin IIRC,) and he turned out to be a murdering psychopath too.

Only difference is that Tim's dad and Richard were in it less than 5 years, and Stephen is a character that goes back several decades - (first mentioned in the 1980s I think???)

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 11/10/2023 13:19

With Tim’s dad I think the point was that friendly jovial men can be horribly abusive behind closed doors? And Richard was clearly always meant to be a psycho.

someone suggested on one of these threads that the Corrie writers saw how much engagement the repeat of Richard storyline on classic was getting and are trying to recreate it?

thenightsky · 11/10/2023 13:23

I seem to recall that Tim's dad showed glimpses of is true nature a couple of times in the early days. Didn't he lock Audrey into the radio booth and leave her there? He also played games between Audrey and Yasmeen. Small things, but red flags.

x2boys · 11/10/2023 15:27

They could have at least have got the basics right ,my son wss diagnosed with Diabetes in February after collapsing in DKA,his blood sugars were.through the roof ,and Katie ,having eaten a,huge slice of cake and not taking her insulin would have been in DKA( Diabetic keto,Acidosis)
But they said Katie wss having a Hypoglycemic coma, which would have meant her blood sugars were to low ,both are life threatening
They could have least have researched it!

Iwantacampervan · 12/10/2023 15:07

So how does Sarah-Lou manage to keep a t shirt pristine white whilst working in a cafe?
(important question of the day obviously!)

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 12/10/2023 21:30

Good points about Tim's dad. I'd forgotten. Blush

I am getting really wound up and narked by KATY constantly GROWLING when she speaks (when she's annoyed/pissed off.) Every fooking time she gets ranty, she grizzles and growls, and it's really pissing me off. Angry

I am also sure that as she is not 18 yet (in fact only just 17 this week?) her parents can demand she comes home. I am sure they can call the police and have her brought home. In the mid noughties, I had a friend who had a daughter who was 16. She left school in the June, (3 months after she hit 16,) and in the October, she dropped out of college, left home and moved to the university town her boyfriend of one year had moved to (as he was at the university there.)

Her dad contacted the police, and she was brought back. She was under the jurisdiction of her parents until she was 18, and the police said if she is not in danger (which she wasn't,) her parents are responsible for her, they CAN make her stay, and she cannot leave.

So I think Tommy Harris could tell the police to bring Katy home.

Between 16 and 18 is a funny age ,I'm pretty sure you can live on your own at 16/17
Nick.and Leanne ran away and got married at 16/17
Although having said my 16 year old son,s friend has Been having problems at home ,and has been kicked out a couple of times (/albeit breifly)and I was told as he's under 18 he's classed as a child
The relationship between Martin and Katy whilst legal is very grim
If somebody started A thread on Aibu about a 16, year old having A relationship with a 35 year old I think.everyone would say he was grooming her
Its very uncomfortable. to.watch.

x2boys · 13/10/2023 08:55

Also.Sarah,s only 16 too.and Gails not at all.happy about her moving out
But there doesn't seem to be much she can do.

TennisWithDeborah · 14/10/2023 19:53

No wonder Sean Wilson felt awkward. It’s an unsettling storyline. Makes me even more certain that a Romeo and Juliet law is needed in relation to sexual relationships where U18s are concerned.
