Yes definitely, Martin's always been a ladies man ,but he has at least gone for grown women in the past
Appearently the actor left when he was supposed to have a storyline involving him being jailed for having a " relationship "with an underage girl
I think its just very out of character and sleazy
By all.means show him having affairs etc but at least with adults.

I skipped loads so I could finally catch up and join in.

I think the most shocking thing about Katie and Martin’s relationship for me was finding out that Martin’s 35 I thought he was well into his 40s.

I remember some of this the first time around. I very vaguely remember how the Harris’ storyline ended.

I was 15 when they originally aired and can remember thinking there was nothing wrong with Martin dating Katy. But now I'm in my 30s I'm so grossed out with it all! What is Martin thinking.

I know they have the right to be angry but the Harris family really are awful.

I know its fiction obvs but Katies parents could have sat her down and pointed out to her what could happen when they get older, as in Katie could end up with no love life and being his carer. And yes this can happen when two people are the same age but its rarer.
The UK needs to lose its prudishness and point this stuff out to a young person in a situation like this. And yes this was twenty years ago but if doing a storyline like this maybe consult someone who had/is in an age gap relationship that started when they were young.

It is a similar age gap to Peter Andre and his wife...but yes Martin and Katy at their ages feel very wrong.

Being able to watch that moment again when Todd kissed Nick - I remember it was the first gay kiss on TV (or perhaps just prime time TV?) and was a really big deal at the time.

I wasn’t expecting the Todd and Nick storyline yet, as I thought the other Sarah and Todd story came first.

Shame that the first gay kiss had to be unsolicited and unwanted though!!

Eastenders had the first gay kiss about 15 years before Corrie. I think this was just the first gay kiss on Corrie (traditionally more conservative than the other soaps?)

That's it. It's Katy's age that's the problem. If she was 27 and he was 45, there would be no problem. But 17 and 35? No. In fact Katy was 16 when she and Martin started their 'relationship!' I'd have gone apeshit if my DD tried to date a man in his mid 30s at 16!

I know a woman right now actually, who is 29, and is dating a man who is 62. Biologically old enough to be her grandfather! Her parents are so outraged and angry about it, that they have stopped speaking to her. Not spoken for 6 months. (The woman and this man have been dating 12 months.) And they refuse to speak to or acknowledge her 'boyfriend.' But they can't do a thing about it as she is nearly 30, and lives in her own place, in a town 50 miles away.

Her parents are 53. A decade YOUNGER than her boyfriend. Her mother said she is going to be his carer in the next decade. (And she will have no children with him because he has had the snip.) They said she will spend the best years of her life with this man, and leave it til it's too late to have children, and bitterly regret it... He has 2 sons aged 40 and 42! It's all so weird..........

But she wubz him! 🙄

Yes, it’s ten years. It was a strange experience watching it on Classic a few years ago when Gail was worrying about “having another baby at my age” - she was supposed to be 32! (Although I think Helen Worth was more like 38/39 at the time.)

Everyone seemed so much older for their years then though. When Curly had his 40th recently I thought “Bloody hell, he really HAS had a hard life.”

am getting really wound up and narked by KATY constantly GROWLING when she speaks (when she's annoyed/pissed off.) Every fooking time she gets ranty, she grizzles and growls, and it's really pissing me off.

And me! It’s all the time and makes her sound even more childish, she is so immature in her attitude I just can’t get my head around why Martin would be attracted to her, she is 16 going on 12.

One thing I will say though is Tommy is an absolute bully, the fact that he hates his daughter having any relationship even with someone as harmless as Tyrone is really odd in my opinion and reeks of ownership rather than love.

Yes this was a problem. He is a real misogynist. Thinks of Katy as his property. Poor Katy, going from a caveman to a predator.

Bev and Ciaran were together the other night, they have a similar age gap but it’s not gross, because the younger party is a proper grownup rather than “just about legal”.

Same with Martin and Gail - he was 22ish when Gail got pregnant. A young man, but a fully grown one with a job. Nothing amiss with their relationship as far as age goes.

Yes 10/years I think he was supposed to.be about 22 when David was born and Gail 32 ,he was at least an adult though .

I know he had deep.wrinkels on his face ,im.nearly 50 and a lot less wrinkled then him,I look my age in every other way mind 😂

Gail and Martin were 31 and 20 when they got together. Not quite as bad as 35 and 16. Also Martin was 21 when David was born. Not exactly a 'mere child.' (Bit patronising and rude towards younger parents.)

Like a pp though, I do agree that Gail looked older than 32 when she had David. Looked more like 42 IMO. There looked to be a bigger age gap than 11 years between Gail and Martin. But still, it was only 11 years, and not 20 like Martin and Katy. Also Martin was 4-5 years older than Katy is now, and not a schoolkid.

I also cringed with Bev and Ciaran. Made my toes curl 😬 But yeah, they are both fully fledged adults. Ciaran is 29 at the time, and Bev is about 50-52. No comparison with Martin and Katy at all.

I agree. She's like a bratty toddler! I am expecting her say 'I'll scweam and scweam and scweam until I make myself sick!' or 'eat my shorts!'

I also agree with other posters that Tommy is an aggressive bully and a thug. I would have asked Angela if she was frightened of him too, because she is coming across like she is.
