Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

OMG! That soufflé…

OMG… Aidan!!!!!!!!

Lottapianos · 29/07/2023 15:13

'OMG! That soufflé…

OMG… Aidan!!!!!!!!'.

OMG indeed. I would choose the souffle every single time 😁

NeedToThinkOfOne · 29/07/2023 15:58

Wait, Aiden OR the soufflé?

The soufflé

Gowlett · 29/07/2023 16:42

Soufflé (and her kitchen, that’s middle-aged me talking! They can keep the shoes, this time…)

Aidan, I suppose they have to get back together? I was always a BIG girl. Excited by this story, though!

Wishful thinking!

Even though Che is being a dick, at least they’ve got a personality now. Total caricature previously, so fake and badly written. I’m not warming to them but am at least curious what happens next.

To be fair, I read the scene with the feedback group from Che’s show as acknowledging where they went a bit wrong with their character development in S1, in a very meta way. Obviously it segued into Che’s career crisis, but I thought it also held a mirror up to their own cliches in S1

Agree! And it hit a nerve.

Are we going to have a new thread or are we going to use the Anthony Appreciation thread as the next thread?

Gowlett · 05/08/2023 12:59

Anthony Appreciation?
I’m off to have a look now!

It is the new thread!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 23/08/2023 15:12

@ReeseWitherfork do we have a thread after the Anthony Appreciation one? I finally caught up ( and frankly enjoy the thread as much as, if not more than, the actual show!) but it's full and I can't find a subsequent thread.. thanks

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 23/08/2023 16:16

Thanks! Much appreciated

Well there was a lot to unpick this week wasn’t there?

Did not like..
-Che (obvs). It is ridiculous to think that there would be no intervention by Charlotte or Carrie had this been a Male character. So many red flags. Agree the character is highly manipulative. If IRL the (non starring) producers have allowed CN to push her narrative on the series, they should give their collective heads a fucking wobble. It is genuinely off-putting.
-The baffling ‘hot teenage boy’ storyline. Esp LTW who clearly has a son in the same year. Just no. Probably written by someone who has zero experience of teenage boys beyond being a teenage girl. And completely jarring with the ‘we’re all so aware’ narrative peddled in the other storylines.
-the ‘we can see it coming a mile off’, phone going off in the show-taping scene
-The shoehorned cater-waiter jewellery heist scene. Also, the jewellery which looked like the sort of stuff you see in a woo-woo crystal-peddling shop window.
-lack of Steve in the Brady storyline
-lack of bird-based accessories for Carrie this week 😂

Loved
-Brady coming back to his Mum after being such a dick in S1.
-That everyone kept their clothes on this week . My eyes are still reeling from last week’s flotation tank full frontal. If I want to see a naked 50-something year old body I’ll use a mirror, thanks.
-The Carrie book reading scenes. I cried as much as I did in S1,Ep1.
-The raw truth about being a widow from Bitsy.
-Seema’s outfits which are en pointe for this character. I’m also marvelling at how Sarita Choudhury looks younger than she did 10+yrs ago in Homeland.
-The theft of beloved possessions resonated with me. I had some stuff nicked last year I was so angry that pieces I’d had for years and had worked hard for and (like the Birkin) had such meaning were pilfered by some fucking oik.

On another note, (and a bit like the ewww ‘hot’ schoolboy storyline ) Kim Catrall has revealed that one of the reasons she had refused the SATC 3 movie because the storyline included a then 14yr old Brady sending dick pics to her. She went on to say that AJLT is basically the plot to that movie. It’s a shame she didn’t do this show because maybe she’d have stood up to some of the ridiculous plot devices.

Finally, did anyone read Camilla Long’s description in the Sunday Times last week of the Che/Miranda pool sex scene?

‘It looked someone trying to push a piano uphill’

Brutal. 😂

OMG, is Seema Saul's wife from Homeland? It's telling how I can't remember her name from Homeland even though I'm currently watching it. Even though I'm currently watching it I did not realise it was her. She looks 10 years older in Homeland 🤯

Goes to show how attractive personality can make you ( quiet NPC in Homeland versus vivacious firecracker in AJLT)

Rotormotor · 28/08/2023 13:02

She was in a film I saw years ago from the 90s called Mississippi Masala. She’s English I think.

OP posts:
Ridemeginger · 28/08/2023 17:27

Yes, English born, and also ethnically half white English on her mother’s side. She was smoking hot in Mississippi Masala with a young Denzel Washington. She was also the star of a movie based on the Kama Sutra (Mira Nair was the director of both films)- got a feeling the other star was Tanita Tikaram’s brother, Raymond, who had had a break out role (with lots of gay sex portrayal involved) in the fabulous This Life. Kama Sutra also had tonnes of sex and nudity, and I think SC got a lot of backlash on that one from Indian audiences, as beforehand, she had been the one of the faces of emerging Indian film making in the West, and quite the darling. I think the female stars also complained that they didn’t know what they were getting into before the film started shooting (ie the script didn’t hint at the graphic sex depictions that would be required of them, and they worked under a different film title to the one finally chosen). I only ever saw SC after that as a guest star in TV shows, more often than not playing a downtrodden immigrant.

PerfectYear321 · 04/09/2023 23:30

Where can I watch Sex and the City? Preferably for free, but if not what is the cheapest way?

benfoldsfivefan · 05/09/2023 08:33

@PerfectYear321 You can watch it on Now TV. They often have good deals for new subscribers.

EachandEveryone · 14/09/2023 16:52

The preview tickets have just gone on sale I got mine!

'The preview tickets have just gone on sale I got mine!'

Me too! So excited 😁 I joined the queue at one minute past ten and there were 8500 people in the queue! Got through it in an hour and a half though, not bad

EachandEveryone · 14/09/2023 17:09

Oh I was having radiotherapy this morning I didn’t even see the email. I’m going twice as I promised two people I’d go with them and of course they never bothered trying. I got straight in just now. First time in the stalls and second royal circle.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 24/05/2024 22:11

Late to the party but I am watching this now.
In the last few episodes of series 2 Che isn’t the annoying itchy haemorrhoid they were in series 1 and the beginning of series 2.
I love the nostalgia. I watched Sex In The City when my baby was a newborn and now she’s at university.
I like it new friends they have introduced. I wish Samantha was back in it ☺️

tribpot · 24/05/2024 22:33

Yes, the irony is that Che without Miranda was WAY less annoying. Should have introduced them as a standalone character like the other new cast members instead of shoehorning them into Miranda's life.

x2boys · 25/05/2024 08:58

Yes i binge watched it at Xmas, I much preferred season two to season 1,it was much more in the style of SATC rather than try to hard to educate ,the viewers about trans issues
And I didn't find Che half as annoying .

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 25/05/2024 21:30

I like Antony. He’s a great character.
