Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

I expected to hate it but absolutely loved it, found it really moving and basically sobbed the whole way through. Gives perimenopause the side eye

x2boys · 07/06/2023 20:20

I know poster ,s don't like Aiden, but I quite liked is character SATC I think he felt about Carrie the way she felt about Big I think Big settled for Carrie it's like the meatloaf song two out of three ain't bad,Big needed her he wanted her but there was never anyway he way he was ever gonna love her but two out of three ain't bad and Carrie felt that way about Aiden!but poor.Aiden, was holding out for the love so I hope he doesn't go back to Carrie As there ain't no way she's ever gonna love him!

Let's just hope for a LOT of Anthony.

😂 LOVE this! You’re so right.

I didn't think I could hate Che more until MPK started proclaiming that we were all scared and needed to be educated. No mate, you and your writers were shit and didn't create a fully fledged character.

I've been watching some old episodes of SATC and it just doesn't compare. Yes there are problematic issues that should be tackled, but the way it's been handled by the writing team was just absolutely horrendous. The fact that the ENTIRE WORLD was unified in their hatred of Che should be a sign that THEY got it wrong.

The only two characters not ruined were Anthony and Stamford (RIP Willie Blatch)

It’s like they TRIED to make an annoying character. “I’m Mexican Irish” - oh fuck off, that’s basically a parody of a stupid American. Also the stand up show was about as funny as a bleeding haemorrhoid. Was it even supposed to be funny? I hated the skit about how Che confused people about if she is male or female - no you don’t Sara Ramirez you’re very blatantly a woman mostly given away by your feminine face and mahoosive knockers. It’s like saying you’re confused about Lesley from Benidorm. That’s how obvious it is.

Yes totally!they were very unsuited and in a place like Manhattan irl,I'm sure both would have found a more suitable partner .

I hate how they never say what happened to Marcus.

I agree he was a great boyfriend, she didn’t deserve him. I never got the Aiden hate / he just wanted from her what she expected from Big, but he was actually nice and not a neurotic mess.

Comedy concert, please!

Yes Anthony is great. I agree Carrie is a good actress and I like her character, the rest is annoying. NY …looks great still.

I'm rewatching SATC for the millionth time and it's just SO good compared to this. The script just absolutely sizzles, the acting is wonderful, the way it tackles friendship and love and navigating adult life. Plus the clothes and NY etc.

It's telling that even my 13 year old son loves SATC (yes, I know, bad mum for age limits)

CornishGem1975 · 08/06/2023 10:40

I am rewatching too but it's not aged well! Still funny though.

EachandEveryone · 08/06/2023 10:57

I never get why people say it hasn’t aged well either. It was WAY ahead of its time in loads of ways. It is 25 years old it’s not like they could see into the future and what a shit show life is now, always afraid to step on people’s toes.

thebellagio · 08/06/2023 11:48

I think what struck me most is that with SATC, people always agreed that The City was the 5th character. It was definitely lacking in AJLT.

EachandEveryone · 08/06/2023 12:55

That was probably as a result of Covid though plus NYC isn’t what it used to be. Several people have told me it’s horrific now like the Wild West. I used to visit friends there but they have told me not to bother.

In what way ,?I have never been but I have always wanted too probably because of SATC,,Friend's ect so I'm genuinely interested.

It's the stereotyping. Which to be absolutely fair, should have been called out then. Being 25 years ago doesn't make it acceptable, it was even worse in the films. Nothing about stepping on people's toes.

Figgygal · 08/06/2023 13:24

Also persevered with season 1 but it took months and i begrudged it so Signing up for a Hate watch
I expect this thread will be more entertaining than the actual show

EachandEveryone · 08/06/2023 13:35

in the original series and not the films who was stereotyped? I haven’t watched the repeats for many years so you will have to remind me. I never bothered with the second film but that should’ve been a warning to the writers

New York has a massive homeless issue far worse than it’s ever been. Everything is so much more expensive and crime has shot up. It’s really sad and yes, it was the show that got me there in the first place 😀

CornishGem1975 · 08/06/2023 13:55

Though I'm not saying I don't like it, I still love the original seasons and watch them a lot, just saying it is more obvious now.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 08/06/2023 15:17

CornishGem1975 · 08/06/2023 13:54

To me, some of that article is valid. I think there is stereotyping that sells some of the characters short, and is in some cases offensive. I think some of the supposedly love stories are shown as healthier than they are. I think someone too young to have watched it on first broadcast might watch it for the first time and really struggle with the depictions of sexuality and transgenderism, and in retrospect things that were not controversial at the time now are.

But some of it just seems to not get the complexity of the show. It seems to want a single message about what is Good and part of the point of the original was that the main characters all saw and thought differently. It seems to confuse the authorial voice with the views of the characters. There are shades of grey. There is a reason that there are four different views at times.

It also seems to want it to be everything. The show that it is has to be about people with disposable money. I agree with Cynthia Nixon that the film reducing Carrie's greatest desire to a giant closet is wrong for the characters, but the lifestyle they lead throughout the series is an intrinsic part of the show, and you can't do it on a low income. What would be gained in the story from including New Yorkers with less money? It's essentially a lifestyle fantasy for most viewers. It's clearly not one of the areas that MPK has felt the need to address in AJLT.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 08/06/2023 15:18

Oh, and it's a comedy! Some of the quotes they use to illustrate are mean jokes. They're meant to be rude.

Bullshot · 08/06/2023 15:59

oooh I am pleased to find this thread.

Ready for S2. Not 100% sure what I really thought of AJLT S1 but kind of enjoyed it.

Perhaps it's that I was expecting more SATC but obviously that ship sailed.
