Also love they bought back Greg’s mum from the pilot.

Damnspot · 23/05/2023 07:36

Kendals speech was so good.

I wonder if he'll be knocked back in the next episode, otherwise its looking like he's the one benefitting from his dad being gone.

I loved Connors piece about the bargain mausoleum. I'll miss Connor and Willa the most 😢

Genzken · 23/05/2023 07:36

And Euan was incredible. I love James Cromwell and I loved his tartan jacket. 😉

MustardGreenAndPlum · 23/05/2023 07:42

I have to watch this series again!

tribpot · 23/05/2023 07:46

Caroline bringing Kerri and Sally-Anne up to the front was perfection. Marcia offering her hand to Kerri - perfection. I've just watched back the scene at the start of the wake to see if they're all still together but alas Kerri isn't there (the other three are sitting at the same table). The four of them getting trollied together would have been divine.

What an episode. James Cromwell's performance was magnificent, made all the more so by the fact he is struggling with long Covid and they shot the entire funeral as one scene, multiple times. Keiran Culkin just amazing as the 'pre-grieving' fell apart. What kind of mother doesn't go to her son in such a situation? (Well, we know the answer to that: Caroline). It reinforces why, even when the sibs are essentially at war with each other, they cling together. There is no-one else for them.

Kendall coming alive again when there is a big speech to do - he seems to feed off that energy for a bit afterwards and then collapse back into catatonia. HIs look when they left the cemetery seemed to be putting Logan into the past.

And Jess - unable to tell the truth, just like Frank and Karl at the gravesite with Shiv. They don't understand that their employees will never tell them the truth - or maybe they do, and don't care.

It seems odd that Tom was so absent from this (and he continues to be 'so tired', what is that leading up to?). I think partly he is just tired of constantly performing in order to keep his place in the circus. And the game has changed now that Shiv is pregnant.

Damnspot · 23/05/2023 07:48

I thought Marcia extending her hand to Kerry was a bum note actually. She just wouldn't have done it.

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 23/05/2023 07:54

I liked how even though Connor is seen as the least favourite child, he was the one who seemed to have a more personal relationship with Logan. The image of Logan sending him pictures of the mausoleum he was bidding on was something he wouldn’t have done with any of the other sibs.

hopeishere · 23/05/2023 07:56

Yeah he had a totally different relationship with Conor. So interesting.

MarciaSaysANumber · 23/05/2023 07:56

Is it too late in the day for Tom, after his wonderful confession about loving his career and suits and watches, to decide that really he’d like to jump off and become a house-husband?

‘Succession’ ought really to extend to Logan’s grandchildren … Shiv’s child will be his only biological grandchild - so far. I hope Kendall won’t actually press ahead with his custody thing - though we’ll probably never know. Of course Connor and Willa will almost certainly have children … Roman …?

hopeishere · 23/05/2023 07:56

I was confused by Roman's apartment. It looked really small or was that just a corner of it.

slamfightbrightlight · 23/05/2023 08:05

Bargellobitch · 23/05/2023 07:27

As it's a bank holiday next week we're planning a succession breakfast!

Black coffee and a line of coke? You’re in for quite the Monday!

Tadpolle · 23/05/2023 08:05

Cat food Ozymandias 😂

franke · 23/05/2023 08:09

James Cromwell is on the podcast this week. He's a force of nature.

Thats just his bedroom/bathroom I think.

tribpot · 23/05/2023 08:19

Roman's apartment is definitely a bit of a mystery. We see him in the bedroom at the start when he's rehearsing his speech and then he walks through what looks like the world's tiniest kitchen in a corridor space on the way to his massive closet. Then he walks into his bathroom. There weirdly don't seem to be any other doors so I can only think that there's another door on the far side of the bedroom that leads into the main apartment? This is like a private suite in one corner.

Caramelisedbiscuitbutter · 23/05/2023 08:24

My take on Marcia being nice to Kerry is to show some irony that the sibs all think she’s a dreadful person but she’s actually very human, especially compared to them and Caroline. I think underneath the facade she’s quite a sincere person and genuinely loved Logan. Her kindness to Kerry was a little unexpected given previous scenes but not unrealistic in my opinion.

I think Mattson placing Geri as CEO is the only credible option at this point. As I said above, Greg wouldn’t be accepted by the markets. Geri has the experience to keep things steady during the integration period, which is a more realistic play and what the markets would value. And whilst Succession is a drama I do think that making Greg as CEO is just too far out there for the writers.

Of course we would then need a stellar ending for Greg. I can’t predict it though.

greennotepad · 23/05/2023 08:26

I think Tom as CEO with Greg as number 2 could work.

I guess it's only his NY apartment.

Damnspot · 23/05/2023 08:27

Tom as CEO would definitely put the knife into Shiv.

MustardGreenAndPlum · 23/05/2023 08:29

I think it’s Jess in the car with Lukas.

The President Elect is creepy. He is going to shaft the whole lot of them.

Yes deffo Jess otherwise her resignation doesn't make any sense.

Perhaps Mencken won't get in after all

greennotepad · 23/05/2023 08:32

If we are to accept a cyclical ending, then I think Shiv is destined to follow in the footsteps of her own mother- a bitter absent parent, constantly overlooked in favour of men (Caroline's expression at the funeral when Kendall talked about how Logan had accomplished producing the kids!), set to be miserable and fuck up her own children. Maybe she reconciles with Tom if he is CEO, and has to accept a life as a supporting character- whereas if she'd just backed him a few seasons ago she could have wound up working with him. Now there is too much water under the bridge and she's hurt him too much- I think they could reconcile as a family to have the child, but he won't ever let her pull the strings again.

greennotepad · 23/05/2023 08:33

I thought about Jess in the car- but as Matsson's assistant surely, he's unlikely to make her US CEO?

I don't think saying it makes no sense is right though- her resigning after the Mencken thing is entirely logical.

Have a knot in my stomach just now from watching the 1 minute finale trailer.

I think I’ll need a Valium to get through the 90 mins next week.
