Any main channel, Netflix or Prime please?

I'm thinking of the sort of thing that is usually 3 to 4 parts and shown over consecutive nights.Channel 5 do a lot of these things - usually set in super smart houses the character couldn't afford. Sometimes they are longer but normally less than 5 episodes

i've seen lots but am sure there must be ones I haven't seen.

Stuff like these (which I have seen as samples):

Finding Alice (ITV husband falls down bannisterless stairs of dream home he designed) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11127412/

The Catch (Ch 5) (seemingly perfect new bf of daughter freaks out her fisherman father) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11127412/

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Netflix) woman believes she sees murder in house opposite, parody thriller https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13315324/

The Stranger (Netflix, Harlan Coben) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stranger_(British_TV_series)

Finding Alice (TV Series 2021) - IMDb

Finding Alice: Created by Roger Goldby, Simon Nye, Keeley Hawes. With Keeley Hawes, Isabella Pappas, Nigel Havers, Kenneth Cranham. Alice's husband of 20 years, Harry, falls down the stairs and dies soon after the couple move into the dream home he des...

All of the Harlen Coben series on Netflix are great; The stranger, stay close, the innocent, the five. Can’t remember the rest

Sunny866 · 07/05/2023 22:44

No idea how that gif got added!!!

There have been a few threads with random gifs over the past couple of days. There was a cute cat saying happy Christmas yesterday I think! That poster had no idea how it got added either 🤣

I discovered 'Deadline' yesterday - a woman is suspected of murdering her husband but there is not much evidence, she wants to tell a journalist her story.

OP did you see 'the accident' and 'Kiri'? I think they were Ch5, I wasn't impressed with Kiri, it seemed a bit far fetched.

Help - set in a care home and then covid starts.

mum2jakie · 08/05/2023 09:17

If you like Channel 5 dramas, have you seen Compulsion (four episodes). First three episodes were great, fourth one was a real weak ending.

Also Witness Number 3, shown on Channel 5 last year. That was good - surprised it wasn't discussed more on MN at the time

ABoyCalledBasil · 08/05/2023 11:46

I watched Obsession (Netflix 4 parts) yesterday Thanks @MaMisled for suggestions. It is the remake of the Jeremy Irons Damage film but I really enjoyed it. Exactly the sort of thing I was looking for although be warned it does have a bit too much of the unnecessary sex scenes. I don't need to see someone masturbate over a pillow thank you but it is good & I enjoyed it. Didn't think there was any chemistry at all between Anna and her bf Jay though.

I didn't realise from the name but when I looked, I have seen Angela Black. The concept (perfect life, weird controlling husband, what's going on) is exactly the type of drama I meant but I found this one too drawn out. It was 6 or so episodes when it would have been much better in 3 or 4. The investigator bloke was really annoying the way he just kept on turning up and she was really really shout-at-the TV stupid!

Inside Man (Stanley Tucci on death row/David Tennant vicar) was great but I've seen that.

Strike (Robert Galbraith/JK Rowling) is 5 series and isn't the sort of thing I am looking for. I'm not after longer detective type series more the shorter thriller/glamour kitchen types/psycho-drama.

For the people recommending the series Following and Placemark (!!! you know there is a follow button right at the top of each thread right?), just collecting the ones together that I haven't see in one post for my ref which I thought I'd put here for everyone interested

List of Recommendations

MindHunter: Netflix, 2 series, 19 episodes FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, Jonathan Groff (Hamilton!) Anna Torv

Citadel: Amazon Prime, 6 episodes G lobal spy agency Citadel has fallen, and its agents' memories were wiped clean. Now the powerful syndicate, Manticore, is rising in the void. Can the Citadel agents recollect their past and summon the strength to fight back

The devil’s hour: prime. A woman keeps waking up every night at exactly 3.33 AM, in the middle of the so-called devil's hour between 3AM and 4AM, for seemingly no reason

All of the Harlen Coben series on Netflix are great; The stranger, stay close, the innocent, the five

'Deadline' (Ch 5/ Netflix)- a woman is suspected of murdering her husband but there is not much evidence, she wants to tell a journalist her story. @sashh this sounds ideal for me, exactly what I was after - thank you.

Liar (ITV) Teacher Laura Nielson is unsure about getting back on the dating scene, but when she meets renowned surgeon Andrew Earlham, there's more than just an initial attraction. @Sunny866 I think I might have seen this. This is the trouble with watching so many! Is this the one where he is a widow and she starts to get suspicious about whether he killed his wife?

Kiri (Ch4) Sarah Lancashire, Pappa Essiedu Abuduction of Kiri Akindele a nine-year-old black girl from her foster parents Jim and Alice Warner a middle-class white couple who fostered her at age four and are about to adopt her

Compulsion (Ch 5) 4 parts. Paramedic Jenny is coping with her PTSD after being involved in a fatal train crash. After finding herself in debt to some dangerous people, she comes across a good Samaritan called Sasha, played by Anna Chancellor, who offers her a way out. But Sasha may not be who she says she is.

Witness No 3 (Ch 5 4 parts) single mum Jodie is subjected to a terrifying campaign of intimidation as a killer tries to terrorise her into silence

@mum2jakie no I haven't seen either of the last two so thanks for suggestions.

Obsession on Netflix 4 parts

Sunny866 · 08/05/2023 15:43

Also watched a great one on bbc a few months ago. About a Welsh family and the son has committed suicide but then another boy turns up claiming to be the long lost brother. Can’t for the life of me think what it was called!

BertieBotts · 08/05/2023 15:46

Harlan Coben ones are generally good.

Also the Strike series on BBC.

martinisforeveryone · 08/05/2023 21:25

The Diplomat on Netflix is 8 episodes. I enjoyed that. They've commissioned series 2.

ITVX has an Australian drama The Twelve about a jury in a murder case. That kept me gripped but I think it's 10 or 11 episodes, so a bit long for you.

HadalyEve · 08/05/2023 21:31

You Don’t Know Me
The Maid
Welcome to Eden
Sky Rojo (cheeky because that’s a full series)
Mrs Wilson
Alias Grace

Witness no 3 was the one I was thinking of.

There was a great one on bbc that reminded me of that. Can't for the life of me remember the name. Young guy meets a girl on a bus. He works as a car sales man. Something like you don't know my story?! They get involved in crime. Argh!

mum2jakie · 08/05/2023 22:08

The comment about a Welsh drama also reminded me about this Channel 4 series shown earlier this year. Six episodes but worth watching.

to everyone who has replied to me I just to wanted to say this thread is making me very happy with the promise of future viewings.

Like I said above, I've already watched the whole of Obsession and am now starting Citadel.

Aaargh that rings a bell but I can't remember either!

It also reminded me of The Drowning, a 4 parter starring Jill Halfpenny. She plays a mother whose 4 year old son drowned, then she sees a teenager whom she is convinced looks just like her son.

@DerekFaker Yes - I've seen that one. It wasn't bad.

I LOVED Blue Lights about three rookie police officers. Brilliantly acted. Think it's about 5 or 6 episodes.

Caliphate on Netflix
