Any main channel, Netflix or Prime please?

I'm thinking of the sort of thing that is usually 3 to 4 parts and shown over consecutive nights.Channel 5 do a lot of these things - usually set in super smart houses the character couldn't afford. Sometimes they are longer but normally less than 5 episodes

i've seen lots but am sure there must be ones I haven't seen.

Stuff like these (which I have seen as samples):

Finding Alice (ITV husband falls down bannisterless stairs of dream home he designed) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11127412/

The Catch (Ch 5) (seemingly perfect new bf of daughter freaks out her fisherman father) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11127412/

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Netflix) woman believes she sees murder in house opposite, parody thriller https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13315324/

The Stranger (Netflix, Harlan Coben) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stranger_(British_TV_series)

Finding Alice (TV Series 2021) - IMDb

Finding Alice: Created by Roger Goldby, Simon Nye, Keeley Hawes. With Keeley Hawes, Isabella Pappas, Nigel Havers, Kenneth Cranham. Alice's husband of 20 years, Harry, falls down the stairs and dies soon after the couple move into the dream home he des...

Came back to recommend The Au Pair on Channel 5 which is great - and the house is to die for! 4 episodes and I'm 3/4 but enjoyed it very much.

A mother hires an Au Pair who seems perfect but appearances can be deceiving!

Sounds exactly my sort of thing! Thanks for refreshing this thread

This looks like it has good potential - but 6 episodes though. Based on book by Lianne Moriaty. Sat 24 May 9pm BBC 1

The Last Anniversary

When Sophie Honeywell mysteriously inherits a house on Scribbly Gum Island, her arrival threatens to unearth secrets held close by three generations of women.

Good spot. I love Liane Moriarty books and remember this one being a good read.

Most recently - "Code of Silence" on ITVX is really good 👍

Back to highly recommend The Girlfriend on Amazon Prime if you subscribe. Robin Wright as the mother.

This is great - glam houses, nice clothes, twisty plot. Mother doesn't really like her son's new gf and it all spirals downhill. Told where you see the same events from different perspectives which works really well in terms of balancing viewer's reactions.

I really liked it and would recommend to people on this thread who like these kind of psychological thriller type dramas in expensive worlds.

More a drama than a thriller but I just really enjoyed The Gathering on Netflix. A lot of young new up and coming actors who are absolutely brilliant in it. The main girl reminds me of an early Jodie Comer.

Lots of different interweaving stories of the children and their parents and it’s mainly centred around professional gymnastics.

Edited

I started watching that last night, now on episode 3.

So far, so good.

The Shadow on Walter Presents. German, but mostly set in Vienna. Slow start (so stick with it) but everything gradually reveals itself and well worth it in the end, I’d say. 6 episodes.

I've just finished this. I thought it was great.
I've just started Mr Mercedes on Netflix, I'm really enjoying that too.

I've come back to this thread because it is my go to when I need something to watch!
Just finished and enjoyed The Beast in Me on Netflix - great performances from Clare Danes and Matthew Rhys.
Will start Mr Mercedes now - thanks for the tip- and keep them coming please!

ABoyCalledBasil · 10/12/2025 17:35

The Beast in Me is excellent totally agree @cathyandclare . It's really first class - TV equivalent of page turning (binge watchable). Big thumbs up from me.

I'd also recommend.

The Watcher on Netflix - even more freaky is it's based on a true story. It's 7 epsiodes so slightly longer but good. Has Jennifer Coolidge in which is always a plus, Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale. Family move into a very swanky new home in New Jersey and start getting threatening letters from someone known as "The Watcher".

Wild Cherry on BBC iplayer. 6 episodes. It's not without flaws but fun and great property porn. One house has a dance floor that lowers to turn into a swimming pool! Plot is two posh mothers wtih two spoiled school girls in an exclusive gated development run into a scandal and things start to unravel.

Also I liked The Guest (BBC Iplayer) 4 episodes. Eve Myles is great in this.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002f1mx

A cleaner becomes captivated by her wealthy employer's charismatic influence; as their intense friendship grows and secrets emerge, their relationship spirals into a dangerous psychological game.

Plot wise there a couple of moments when it is a bit ! defies belief ! towards the end but it's a good watch and the first episodes are great.

BBC One - The Guest

I watched Run Away on Netflix (Harlan Coben) 8 episodes. Has some well know actors in the cast - Ruth Jones, James Nesbitt and Minnie Driver.Tracy-Ann Oberman has a small part as a lawyer.

"Simon Greene (James Nesbitt) had the perfect life, but then his oldest daughter, Paige, ran away and everything fell apart. When he finally tracks her down, vulnerable and strung out on drugs in a city park, he jumps at the chance to bring his little girl home. But after an argument between Simon and Paige’s friend escalates into shocking violence, Simon loses his daughter all over again."

My review would be that whilst it was engaging (especially the first few episodes) and there were some individually good acting performances (Ruth Jones is great) that is was far too drawn out and had lulls that were a bit boring. This could have been done in about 4 or 5 episodes. It's not bad and I would say its worth watching if you are looking for something to time fill but I wouldn't praise it as highly as Chloe say. If you are into this genre, worth a look but if you are new to it, there are much better things to watch.

Without being too spoilery... not a true spoiler but stop reading if you are spoiler sensitive... to me the ending got a bit ridiculous because it was twist on twist on top of twist. I know Harlan Coben is famous for this but it was just daft because there were so many it was just implausible.

Back to add Sirens (Netflix) 5 episodes

I really enjoyed this. It has a very similar vibe to The Perfect Couple (the one with Nicole Kidman and the viral dance routine on the beach at the start).

It's set over a Labor Day weekend in a very spectacular Hamptons-style island beach house. A sister is very concerned about her other sister's job as a PA to the wealthy house owner (Julianne Moore).

Lots of money, spectacular location, amusing as well (a touch of black comedy about it) and a pacy plot. I liked it.
