Any main channel, Netflix or Prime please?

I'm thinking of the sort of thing that is usually 3 to 4 parts and shown over consecutive nights.Channel 5 do a lot of these things - usually set in super smart houses the character couldn't afford. Sometimes they are longer but normally less than 5 episodes

i've seen lots but am sure there must be ones I haven't seen.

Stuff like these (which I have seen as samples):

Finding Alice (ITV husband falls down bannisterless stairs of dream home he designed) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11127412/

The Catch (Ch 5) (seemingly perfect new bf of daughter freaks out her fisherman father) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11127412/

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Netflix) woman believes she sees murder in house opposite, parody thriller https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13315324/

The Stranger (Netflix, Harlan Coben) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stranger_(British_TV_series)

Finding Alice (TV Series 2021) - IMDb

Finding Alice: Created by Roger Goldby, Simon Nye, Keeley Hawes. With Keeley Hawes, Isabella Pappas, Nigel Havers, Kenneth Cranham. Alice's husband of 20 years, Harry, falls down the stairs and dies soon after the couple move into the dream home he des...

Recently some shorter series I've liked include:
Pieces of her
Unbelievable
The stranger
Safe
Behind her eyes
Stay close
The informer
Liar
You don't know me
The cry
Treason

LBFseBrom · 20/06/2023 13:12

I found 'Pieces of Her' extremely moving.

I've started watching Angela Black on Netflix. There are 6 episodes, I've watched 4 of them already today and am really enjoying it.

XelaM · 07/07/2023 13:56

Just started watching White House Farm (ITV) about the murders there/Jeremy Bamber's case. It's six part mini series and it's very good. The acting is brilliant. The actor playing Jeremy Bamber looks uncanny like him. It was done in close collaboration with the kids' father Colin Caffell apparently and is partly based on his book and recollection of events.

I think you might be the only one. It was slated on here. Smile

I enjoyed the first season of We hunt together .BBC I player
Not so sure about second series .which seems to be on Alibi .
One of the main characters is too much of a rip off of Villanelle in Killing Eve.
And I keep wondering if Eve Myles who plays the female DI was pregnant while filming the second series .I see she had a child in 2021 ,so maybe she was .

Pancakeorcrepe · 09/07/2023 20:06

I need to write all these down

ABoyCalledBasil · 09/07/2023 21:33

Can I add 'I may destroy you' ?
I watched that when it was broadcast and thought it was brilliant.

Also Unbelievable on Netflix, based on a true story about how a young woman is charged with lying to the police about being raped. The story also follows 2 female detectives investigating a serial rapist a couple of years later.

XelaM · 11/07/2023 23:08

Just to add Defending Jacob (Apple TV) is SO GOOD!!! Mini crime series with constant twists and turns and the acting and script are superb

martinisforeveryone · 18/07/2023 14:30

I’ve just started the second series of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix.

barlie · 24/07/2023 20:21

Anyone watched 'what remains' which is on Netflix? Just wondering whether it's worth a try.

Adding 'The Sixth commandment' to our list which I thought was amazing - on iPlayer/currently running on bbc, albeit not fiction.

XelaM · 24/07/2023 22:37

Anyone who recommended Guilt (BBC iPlayer) - THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU! I just finished the first season (which is only 4 episodes). It's absolutely brilliant from start to finish. 🤩

I just saw this The Reunion trailed on ITV - it's for broadcast I think from 2 August (?) but is on ITVX player

It looks right up our collective street!

Thomas receives a mysterious invitation to his school reunion and reunites with old friends, but a past disappearance plagues them all.

This is a very useful thread!

I've just been recommended Billion Dollar Code (on Netflix). It's based on a true story.

XelaM · 29/07/2023 22:21

It's 4 parts. About the creators of Google Earth (but it's not a documentary). Apparently it's very good.

ABoyCalledBasil · 30/07/2023 15:17

I'm also liking the look of Wolf which has Juliet Stevenson in it and based on a Mo Hayder novel which starts tomorrow (Monday 31 July) BBC

“In an isolated house in Monmouthshire, the wealthy Anchor-Ferrers family find themselves the victims of a psychopath’s cruel games, trapped and terrorised.

Here’s your first look at Wolf, the BBC’s new cold case thriller

The much-anticipated drama boasts a cast of very familiar faces.

I just started Drops of God (Apple TV) - it's very good.

By the way, Guilt you can stop after Season 1 (only 4 episodes) as the other two seasons have different stories and only Season 1 was actual perfection. The other two I stopped watching.

nhsteabags · 30/07/2023 15:24

Just finished watching witness number 3 on Netflix. Was quite good. 4 episodes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/08/2023 08:46

ABoyCalledBasil · 05/08/2023 10:14

@Blondeshavemorefun thank you I will do that.

I've just watched The Reunion on ITVX. I think it's from a couple of years ago being repeated/reoffered linked above.

It's 6 parts. I quite enjoyed it with the following caveats:

Ioan Gruffudd is a truly terrible actor. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything before but honestly based on this it's amazing he gets work. The worst bits were where he was reacting but not speaking. You could make a comedy tiktok of it. If you've seen friends where Joey talks about 'smell the fart' acting (if you don't know what to say or do, just try to look like you are smelling a fart). There is a lot of that from Ioan Gruffudd. I mean I suppose he's not bad looking facially if you like that sort of thing but really not good looking enough to be cast if this is his acting standard. Also very comedy were moments when he was trying to be intensely serious/angry.

The plot gets more and more outlandish. It's like one of those things where it starts out normal, then you discover a straight man is gay but then that the a man is in fact a woman and then that they are all aliens and then that in fact they are all seeing dead people and then it was all a dream... of dead alien. It's twist on twist on twist progressively more ridiculous.

Rupert Graves (currently 60) with a grey beard and Dervla Kirwan (currently 51) with a white wig are playing the parents of Ioan Gruffudd (currently 49) which apart from Gruffudd's bad acting is itself inexcusable.

That said, it romps along nicely has some individually great performances and some nice views of the South of France.
