New 5 part medical drama

Dr Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar) is a smart, battle-hardened doctor, but we meet her on a nightmare shift that ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim, Edith Owusu.

Despite the support of her medical supervisor, Dr Leo Harris (James Purefoy), Edith’s grieving father (Brian Bovell), demands an inquiry into Lucinda’s actions on the fateful night.

Leading the medical investigation are Dr Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and Lucinda’s former colleague, Dr George Adjei (Jordan Kouamé). While George feels this was an unavoidable tragedy, Norma is suspicious of Lucinda’s behaviour and decisions in the lead up to the patient’s death.

As the pressure of the investigation intensifies, Lucinda’s relationship with husband Tom (Lorne MacFadyen) starts to fracture, and her confident professional exterior begins to crack. Is Lucinda hiding something?

Episode 1
Dr Lucinda Edwards is a smart, experienced A&E doctor, in the midst of a nightmare shift. She has a gunshot victim and an opioid overdose patient who both need a bed in resus, but there’s only room for one of them.

When one of the patients dies, Lucinda realises her troubles have only just begun.
Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei are investigators from the Medical Investigation Unit, tasked with assessing whether Lucinda is fit to practise medicine.

Feeling the pressure of their close scrutiny, Lucinda is desperate to prove that she can be a competent doctor.

all will be on ITVX - rolls eyes - so any bingers - shush !!!

That was overwhelmingly unrealistic but somehow still enjoyable.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 17:45

It moved quickly with the story line
I like this in a drama.

Daffodilwoman · 24/04/2023 17:52

The cctv not working is very realist if you happen to park in a Morrisons car park. I know 2 people who have had their car either stolen or damaged, both parked near cameras and both told that the cameras weren’t working 🙀

morelippy · 24/04/2023 18:18

What drugs is she taking? Anyone any idea?

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 18:47

It was a blister pack that she had hidden under her bed, so might be anti depressives that she would rather obtain this way from the dodgy Doc than having anything more on her record?
Just a guess

This is my take too. I have however shown no restraint and binge watched it. I will be careful what I add.

dwightschrutebeets · 24/04/2023 21:49

I loved esp 1. I assumed the drugs were codine but might be mistaken!

purpleme12 · 24/04/2023 21:49

There is another thread for people who binge watch

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 21:50

Start a spoiler thread ! It's on ITV x
That's what I do when it's all on streaming services etc
This thread is the normal tv pace , it's on weekly.

purpleme12 · 24/04/2023 21:52

No, they are tiny tablets, often yellow. The ones she took were blue and white capsules....more likely temazepam, tranquillisers.

Mossstitch · 24/04/2023 22:07

Or could be ADHD meds🤔 She was rather impulsive......I'm far too invested in this 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2023 22:11

Something illegal or else she would just get that normally from gp

Or are doctors not allowed to be on antidepress

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 22:21

I think that she wants to avoid the normal route for medication because it would be on her records and she is already seen as a bit of a ' flake ' in some quarters for being off work before the pandemic took hold big time. That's my take on it, anyway , but it might be illegal drugs?
Not sure, intriguing.

bizzey · 24/04/2023 22:28

My take was it was something she doesn't want on her medical records as well.

Maybe she was on something prescribed properly during her break but needed to be off them to return to work to pass a " fit to work" test / better or something.

But she is really hooked on them so gets them on the quiet ?

bizzey · 24/04/2023 22:31

Gosh ...with this program and Magpie Murders .....my poor little brain is going to go into an overworked frazzle over the next few weeks 😂😂😂!!

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 22:32

Reminded me of 'Happy valley ' 3 and the dodgy pharmacist!
