New 5 part medical drama

Dr Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar) is a smart, battle-hardened doctor, but we meet her on a nightmare shift that ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim, Edith Owusu.

Despite the support of her medical supervisor, Dr Leo Harris (James Purefoy), Edith’s grieving father (Brian Bovell), demands an inquiry into Lucinda’s actions on the fateful night.

Leading the medical investigation are Dr Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and Lucinda’s former colleague, Dr George Adjei (Jordan Kouamé). While George feels this was an unavoidable tragedy, Norma is suspicious of Lucinda’s behaviour and decisions in the lead up to the patient’s death.

As the pressure of the investigation intensifies, Lucinda’s relationship with husband Tom (Lorne MacFadyen) starts to fracture, and her confident professional exterior begins to crack. Is Lucinda hiding something?

Episode 1
Dr Lucinda Edwards is a smart, experienced A&E doctor, in the midst of a nightmare shift. She has a gunshot victim and an opioid overdose patient who both need a bed in resus, but there’s only room for one of them.

When one of the patients dies, Lucinda realises her troubles have only just begun.
Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei are investigators from the Medical Investigation Unit, tasked with assessing whether Lucinda is fit to practise medicine.

Feeling the pressure of their close scrutiny, Lucinda is desperate to prove that she can be a competent doctor.

all will be on ITVX - rolls eyes - so any bingers - shush !!!

Lucinda shoving the junior doctor roughly was rather unlikely too!

TrippinEdBalls · 24/04/2023 08:38

why on earth would Lucinda make the junior Dr do a lumbar puncture, a complex procedure, on a child whilst she was already being investigated for bad decisions.

Was Lucinda shaky from the drugs that she's illicitly taking? Or, indeed, are the drugs to stop her shaking?

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 24/04/2023 09:35

Nurse for over 30 years here

Very unrealistic, dramatic and lots of factual errors

Hey ho

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2023 10:07

I replied last night but isn't here. Weird.

Prob on another thread 🙀😂

Anyway gist of my reply

I loved it. Gripping !!

Dr Morgan isn't a good trainee. She didnt listen to her boss's instructions

So her fault Edith died

Rose I assume is the gp she pushed accidentally

She said mum on the phone when was being told was Edith

Her phone rang with that name on the phone. She said oh no. Again etx

I assume she had watched a lumbar as her motto was watch one. Do one. Teach one

Hence why was asked to do one

She hasn't watched the drain so wasn't allowed to do one

Blondes is doing detective work

Yes rose is the gp who is giving her drugs /possibly antibd ans Edith drugs plus seems other patients

As checked names at end and gp is called rob thornbury

Thorns so nickname is Rose

'I assume she had watched a lumbar as her motto was watch one. Do one. Teach one'

Yes but as Lucinda is being investigated about a death that Dr Morgan was directly involved you'd think the junior would've therefore refused a complex procedure on a child. Far too risky.

It might improve you never know. Reminded me of that awful Trigger point just a different place of work.

Willmafrockfit · 24/04/2023 10:18

looks promising
itvx is awful though, so many adverts

I’d picked up that Rose in the phone is actually Rob, so they’re on first name terms. Also stored as a nickname so her DH doesn’t know who it actually is. There were some very insistent messages between them right from the get go, with her putting off contact.

She has some real stress-anger issues whatever her pills are meant to be doing and some real lapses of judgement and concentration. Having her phone within a toddler’s reach, even worse near a bath full of water and then her reaction to her child, that was awful.

I’ll follow it, but I wasn’t drawn in enough to want to binge watch, even though that’s available, so it’s a aaah yes, that’s on, rather than a ‘can’t wait’ at least that’s how I feel for now.

midsomermurderess · 24/04/2023 11:29

One balance, I enjoyed it. It's episode 1 of 6. The characters, their connections, motivation will be revealed. Some people seem to want everything to be laid out from the get go, almost like a children's story, a straight A to Z narrative. I like the guessing, the unreliable narrators, the art of sorytelling. And as to, well I'm an x, a doctor, a lawyer, a traffic warden, that wouldn't happen. People love to see themselves in films etc, it's fun, but for everyone else it just doesn't matter so long as it's not utterly preposterous. It's a bit bar-room bore.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2023 11:31

@martinisforeveryone passes gold star for not bingeing 😂

Yes I thought it was obv rose was rob after texting and meeting in park

Ans first time phone rang it said rose. Then rose again a minute or so later

Prob as then he called 999 according to phone log

'but for everyone else it just doesn't matter so long as it's not utterly preposterous. It's a bit bar-room borex'

People just want it to be convincing, doesn't have to exactly true to life but stuff like nhs investigators having access to call logs is preposterous. As is a junior Dr continuing to work under a senior who is undergoing an investigation that they are directly involved in.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 12:04

She doesn't seem that close to her husband or her little one. Might be the tablets she is taking or just how she is, but she is clearly struggling a lot

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 12:14

I looked up the writer and she was a junior doctor herself once.

lunaloveroo · 24/04/2023 12:54

Watched 2 episodes last night. It is quite similar to Maternal which was also on itv a few months back.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 13:06

I wasn't surprised that Lucinda knew the lady who had the overdose was coming in as I thought that the paramedics sometimes did phone ahead to tell them if it was a case like this? I'm sure I remember seeing this on casualty once or twice , but I appreciate that this might not always happen in a real life A and E situation. It was clearly seen as odd by the MIU though.

Daffodilwoman · 24/04/2023 13:08

I suppose most tv dramas are unrealistic.
I’ve stopped watching murder drams for this reason. The serial killer lying in wait to kidnap and torture someone who’s name begins with the letter K because that is what is written in the Book of Revelation, is nonsense. Most killers know their victims. It’s going to be the partner/husband or ex. In reality the victim will have already been attacked by the killer. Maybe even planning their escape from the relationship or have already broken up with the killer. Quite often they will already have reported earlier abuse to the police.
Yet dramas don’t reflect that.

Aquarius1234 · 24/04/2023 15:23

It's 5 episodes weirdly not 6.
I gave up with Maternal. This Seems more thriller. Even tho it's easy to guess what happens.

OneFrenchEgg · 24/04/2023 15:47

I think surely cctv will pick up the push?

Probably not working at that time !
Just when you need something..

OneFrenchEgg · 24/04/2023 16:07

Or all the people that ignored them having a row in the street ? Mad! Round here they'd have been put on Facebook and several attempts at a citizens arrest would have been made 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2023 16:15

Police will interview witness and they will say a woman give her description pushed him

Police will look at his phone and see that he was meeting her at the park

OP posts:
CrapBucket · 24/04/2023 16:44

She might go back and do first aid after all. She dithered before and then snapped into action.

Plus then she can steal his phone and dispose of the evidence. (Or hide the evidence somewhere stupid, to be found in a future episode)

It wasn't that that they found odd.

It came to light that Lucinda told her colleagues that an overdose was coming in BEFORE the paramedics had called A&E about it.
(Because dodgy man had called her to tell her).

The investigators realised that they knew about it before the paramedics called it in.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2023 17:23

Ahh, the phone call .. makes sense now
Was a bit confused there
