Is anyone else a Yellowjackets fan? I think season 2 will be released soon. I’m currently re-watching season 1 because I think I probably missed a lot. But it would be good to have done watching buddies.

Finally caught up and wow - we've reached a crucial turning point!

Not sure if it was just me but when the scenes were cutting between the cards being drawn and Nat being chosen, and Lottie's suggestion of sacrifice in the present day, the camera seemed to avoid Juliette Lewis for quite a while and I really thought that we were about to find out that Nat had died back then and everything we had seen up until now in present day was hallucination. I couldn't work out how that could posisble work given her backstroy with Travis and being kidnapped/rescued by Lottie's cult so as releived for many reasons when it all unfolded. Poor Javi though - we barely knew ya!

Have arranged wfh on Friday so I can watch the finale as soon as possible. unfortunately I'm guessing the writers' strike will mena we'll have to wait a very long time for season 3.

I've seen it!
What did you think?

SapatSea · 26/05/2023 12:48

Wow! what an hour of television.

Caramelisedbiscuitbutter · 26/05/2023 13:12

Agree, what an hour. So much to say, don’t know where to start!

Coach… what have you done?!

HalloumiFries · 26/05/2023 13:37

I'm in.

Where to start???? The music! Every music choice in this episode was 100% perfect.

I'm jumping in with spoilery discussion so read on at your peril...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I found the penultimate schene, with the police dealing with Natalie's body, absolutely heartbreaking. The dismissive way they say it's a "middle aged woman who has overdosed" really got to me. I think because I'm exactly the same age as the yellowjackets and have found every tiny detail of the 90s to scenes to be painfully realistic, and also also finding myself in the situation of being overlooked as an invisible middle-aged woman these days. it really brought home the passage of time.

Natalie, who had such a difficult life and who came through every challenge; who took charge of her own life and also showed so much compassion to others. Our Antler Queen. Just reduced in the end to middle aged junkie 😄

I loved the way they dealt with Lottie's storyline. Setting her up as the big bad in the S1 finale and then turning it around here to show that she was the victim of the other girls' deeds. She didn't mastermind the cannibalism and argued against it but they all did it for her. She passed on the role of leader and it was clear from the looks on the others' faces that every one of them wanted it as much as she didn't. She was troubled and the others didn't understand her mental illness. There really isn't any good and bad with the girls, just trauma and hormones and survival instincts.

Once everyone started turning up at the commune I really thought that Callie was going to get killed accidentally in the hunt and that Shauna would have to cope with losing two children.

Lastly (for now - so many other thoughts), I'm convinced that Ben survives and we'll see an older version in present day who still fears and hates the yellowjackets. Perhaps he sent the postcards? I hope we don't have to wait too long for S3 although I fear it could be a couple of years.

Also continuing spoilery chat.

Agree with all this although Jeff sent the postcards didn’t he?

I’d like Ben to still be alive, and I’m more convinced now that he will be. It’ll make for interesting content and storylines in future episodes.

Natalie’s death was just tragic. I got a real sense from the 90s scenes between her and Travis, especially in this episode, that they had such a special relationship so his death and now hers just felt more sad.

The present day Lottie content in the last couple of episodes has been so interesting, especially with how this episode ended. Her trauma is clearly more on the surface than the others.

HalloumiFries · 26/05/2023 17:06

I know - that moment when they said something along the lines of Lottie not being the only one who is traumatised but they are all coping fine, had me shouting at the telly!

I thought that Jeff had admitted to the blackmail but didn't seem to know about the postcards so there were potentially two blackmailers. I might have picked that up wrong though. Really need to rewatch season 1.

Caramelisedbiscuitbutter · 26/05/2023 17:52

Oh, yes you could be right @HalloumiFries

SapatSea · 26/05/2023 17:57

@HalloumiFries IIRC Jeff has never actually admitted to the postcards nor denied them. Along with Randy he sent the texts with the "symbol."

Nat will work out pretty soon where Javi hid if she recalls her chat with Ben. Who leaves a box of Cook's matches outside the hut in the freezing cold ( for coach to steal)? They would get damp!

Maybe someone listened to Walter's plan to explain Kev's death better than me. I know Walter has hacked bank accounts and made it look like Kev was involved in Adam's death and that Pornstache cop supposedly had to shoot Kev when he realised realised Kev was corrupt and they fought but how would that explain away the Phenobarbitol in Kev's system and Kev being shot in car boot. Did they even Kev's body to the police? Also, how would they explain Lottie's gunshot wound from an unregistered gun - pin that on a drug crazed Nat?
The fixing of the Adam situation seems messy to me but perhaps I missed something?

So I guess Adam was just a random then?- but his tats really made it look like he knew about YJ's and he seemed to have money for a "struggling artist" come mechanic who had no Google presence with Shauna. He seemed suss.

Going to really miss having this show to watch.

Caramelisedbiscuitbutter · 26/05/2023 18:04

I found the Adam storyline and particularly the ending of it the weak point really. I didn’t really get it and felt it was just quickly devised as they knew it couldn’t go on forever.

It did bring us Walter though so that’s good.

colourmebladd · 26/05/2023 18:08

Did Ben set the fire??

SapatSea · 26/05/2023 19:43

Ben came to take matches, an axe and rope and then saw Nat being made Queen. I guess we all assume Ben did it as he knows they are all cannibals and the door was locked/blocked by someone or something (?)but I suppose the writers are leaving it open for now.

I feel Walter has just been used as a Deus ex machina. I have major issues with his "plan." I'm still not convinced by him being on the YJ side. Also, Lisa would need to have agreed about Nat and the overdose lie. So, so messy.

SapatSea · 26/05/2023 19:44

Also, wouldnt Jeff's fingerprints/hair be all over Kev's body and clothes ( and Walter's- who could also have blood splatter)?

Robinni · 27/05/2023 10:41

Well that was 3 episodes in one! spoiler alert

I was ready for turning it off half way through, very heavy going.

So sad about Javi, I found it really hard to watch the scenes with him being carried in and dismembered. It was handled really well though; particularly with Travis holding the wolf in eyeline whenever the meat was brought in and then it being placed on the mantelpiece.

The woman of the woods was right to warn him not to go back. I wonder if there will be a plot twist with "it" being good and the girls being sinister?

Absolutely devasted Natalie is dead, Juliette Lewis is one of the main reasons I started watching the show. Though arguably Natalie's character had limited ways to go, particularly after they killed off Kevin too. Do you think they will kill off 1-2 major characters per season until they're all gone?

Horrified by the ending, did a candle fall over, did Ben do it?

I don't know if Ben will survive to the present day, he's made the mistake of telling Natalie about the other shelter and now she is anointed leader of the group. I think she will take him out.

Her position within the group and the responsibility that must have given her really explains a lot of the mental turmoil she experienced in later life.

Robinni · 27/05/2023 10:43

Was really impressed by how all the supporting characters came to the fore and contributed to the story arch, especially Walter, Jeff and Callie... the latter is growing on me now.

Thank god the Adam storyline is wrapped up, it was terrible.

Kittylickingplate · 27/05/2023 11:23

At the very end, when the camera pans out. Were they stars or lights of a town, in the distance?

SapatSea · 27/05/2023 12:33

@Robinni I think Juliette Lewis wasn't very happy on the production. She felt her adult character Nat - addictions, depressed about Travis etc wasn't who she had been "sold" to get her to sign on. I think it was reported a while ago that she said she didn't want to do TV anymore. Perhaps she only signed on for one or two seasons and the writers had to write her out as she wanted to leave. I can't imagine they wanted her to leave.

Robinni · 27/05/2023 12:39

@SapatSea

Yeah I watched a cast interview where they were all on stage and remember her saying something to this effect.

It’s sad she was by far the most interesting, except for Shauna who I also love.

Young Natalie is portrayed so well by Sophie Thatcher I hope she is able to bring out more storylines..

SapatSea · 27/05/2023 16:54

@Robinni I agree, Sophie Thatcher is great. The ensemble acting of the main teen cast is great!
