Is anyone else a Yellowjackets fan? I think season 2 will be released soon. I’m currently re-watching season 1 because I think I probably missed a lot. But it would be good to have done watching buddies.

OP posts:

OMG Poor Coach Ben, he was horrified and terrified.
I think the way they consumed the body was so shocking. It was clever how the snow fell and the body sort of 'slow cooked'
Very intense, I needed to take the dog for a night walk to clear my head after that one.
Shauna is so messed up. Looking back, she always was BUT such a clever portrayal by both actresses you warmed to her.

ellebelli · 11/04/2023 12:59

Finally caught up.
My main concern is "is Steve OK?"
Can't say I've enjoyed any of it yet..finding it all a bit "daft" which I didn't in series one.
Tai is acting like she is possessed.
Not entirely sure I will bother to watch anymore.

Robinni · 11/04/2023 13:53

@ellebelli I’m the same, finding it all a bit meh. Except for Shauna. Shauna is gold!
Really don’t like the storylines with Tai or Lotte. Misty and Walter is a bit like diagnosis murder, I kept expecting Dick Van Dyke to show up!

Paid subscription so will see it through.

HalloumiFries · 11/04/2023 14:06

Can I join in?

I was obsessed with the last season. I watched the first two episodes then took a day off work to binge the rest. Like others here, I'm exactly the same age as the characters so both past and present scenes really resonate - and the music is perfect!

I paid for a paramount subscription, despite us really trying to cut back on non-essentials at the moment. I just had to know what happens next. So far, though, I'm underwhelmed. Hoping it picks up soon. Melanie Lyskey is brilliant though - loved the scene with the car thief, and the addition of Elijah Wood is inspired.

I really need to know what happened to Javi (I have a theory) and also Shauna's baby. I was sure the guy in the bar was going to be her son - so many parallels with Caillie's life, I thought we were building to a reveal about him being her secret brother but he was obviously just finding an angle, as a cop, to play her to get info about Shauna and Adam's affair.

Hope I haven't broken any spoiler rules - happy to report and delete if so. Not sure how much we can discuss here.

Robinni · 11/04/2023 14:32

All welcome @HalloumiFries the way I’m playing it is to check in after watching episode every Friday. I don’t think there have been any major spoilers except that the cannibalism is out of the bag!

colourmebladd · 11/04/2023 22:55

Ooh what’s your Javi theory @HalloumiFries ?

HalloumiFries · 11/04/2023 23:29

Right, I need to start by saying that I was- and to an extent, still am - a massive fan of Lost. I spent hours per day debating theories on the Fuselage site and will happily treat anyone to a sermon on why the finale was misunderstood. So, with that in mind - my Javi theory is clearly inspired by Lost and possibly I'm projecting too much Lost knowledge here.

Basically I think there is an underground bunker and Javi is hiding out there. The tree in the visions and which Nat and Travis came across while hunting, seems immune to the snow which would suggest there is heating from below. I think Javi is under the tree. Not sure what he's been eating or drinking though, or what significance a bunker would have to the plot so this is where my theory runs out of steam. Unless, of course, it turns out that Javi is pressing a button every 108 minutes.

colourmebladd · 13/04/2023 09:15

I’m open to the idea of a bunker. I think Javi is alive since Lottie seemed genuinely surprised and there’s currently no reason to think she’s getting things wrong. I think he will die though.
I think mari will be eaten next. She has no back/present day story but is getting lots of lines.

SapatSea · 13/04/2023 14:34

I've also been thinking Bunker. Lottie has a vision (last season?) where she was in underground corridors dripping with water and she walked up steps lined with candles as if to an altar. IIRC the bloody antlered stag led her there in the vision. Also during the shroom broth "doom coming" episode in season one the girls say they can feel heat and energy under their feet (at that time I thought it was some sort of tree root energy). Mari heard dripping when the girls were creating their baby shower gifts. Bad Tai made the altar with Biscuit's head, heart and the broken doll on it in the secret underground chamber in her basement.

Kittylickingplate · 13/04/2023 14:36

Ooh, a bunker. I wondered if he was found by another hunter and kept safe?

SapatSea · 13/04/2023 14:41

I was trying to count how many girls were coming off the rescue plane in the flashback. In season 1 at the seance they ask "how many of us will survive" and the answer symbol drawn by teh swinging knife is 8 or infinity. So I think only 8 of them survive. Lottie, Van, Tai, Nat, Shauna, Misty, Travis and perhaps Javi? although no one ever mentions him in the present nor have mentioned Shauna's baby.

Do you think Shauna's baby will be an actual baby (and Jeff's) or something else?
Lottie said they "should welcome him" could it be a creepy incarnation. At that seance in season 1 IIRC Lottie said the darkness was already inside Shauna. Some sort of shadow monster?

HalloumiFries · 13/04/2023 15:39

Yes, I meant to say that Lottie's vision also ties into my bunker/Lost rip-off theory. I hadn't made the connection with the heat from underground, or the dripping noise but this all makes sense, plus Tai's underground chamber

Mari and Crystal both seem to be being set up as redshirts for this season.

I won't be able to watch this week's episode until Sunday but look forward to rejoing the chat after that.

theWarOnPeace · 13/04/2023 23:00

Omg I love this bonkers show. Totally ridiculous and I am hooked. I am a bit obsessed with all the Rome/Roman references but not sure where they all lead. The various show titles in Latin, Caligula, the bacchanalia shit and constant references to bees/hives and death of Julius Caesar. I love anything with a puzzle through it.

I also think Javi is in a bunker, and it’s probably full of food etc. I think it was coach Ben who described the dead guy in the cabin I think as something like a prepper nut job when it came to stockpilling bullets. I believe Lottie saying he’s alive, and he couldn’t have physically gone far in the winter. Plus Laura Lee said the plane tank was full of fuel - how? Unless it was refilled from very close by, and also if they assumed it had been refilled somewhere then there must be a shop/life within a small radius.

As soon as Tai’s basement was revealed I thought of Lottie’s vision and wonder if it may even be the same place?

The fact there were no fish in a lake in Canada straight away it’s a red flag for the water. Anyone who’s either been there or currently watching race around the world knows it’s teeming with wildlife.

I’m definitely a weirdo who gets worked up over stuff, I’m very logical and practical and feel like they need to have done more practical stuff for that cabin. They needed to have stripped that plane bare for one and used everything from the seats to the carpeting to the trolley wheels. Clothing that wasn’t theirs/other people’s bags should have been got. They need to insulate the cabin, particularly the windows and be collecting rainwater and setting animal and bird traps. The big ā€˜Yellowjackets’ plastic banner should have been draped across the top of the cabin, too in case of passing planes. Could have doubled as rainwater runoff catcher thingy. The fact there’s still cobwebs everywhere is bugging me šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøThey’ve got sod all to do, I would have scrubbed the place and made it homely I wouldn’t be able to stand just leaving it.

Did Jeff admit to sending the wish you were here cards? Cos how did he know about the symbol? I think he blackmailed them and they’ve assumed the cards were from whoever did the blackmailing, but was it actually him?

Again I’m a practical person, but no way would I have sent off Jackie in a useable coat and shoes when everyone else is freezing to death. Also the way they cut the animals throats right at the front of the cabin is insane! Not more insane than the whole show, but still.

colourmebladd · 14/04/2023 07:48

Jeff had read the diaries so he knows everything. I assumed he’d sent the postcards ahead of blackmail.

What did they do with dead guy? I don’t think we saw him being removed but I might be wrong…

Kittylickingplate · 14/04/2023 08:09

Misty burned the head with one of her deceased patients. She told them to dump the body in a river?

SapatSea · 14/04/2023 14:27

Misty told Shauna to bury the suitcase with his torso and legs in a specific park. I guess we have to assume Shauna did that. Misty said the torso if/when found would be no use to the police without the head and hands (?)

However, Adam had lots of distinctive tattoos on his body so if the torso was found quickly he could be identified(?) What about DNA matches with a sibling? etc. It didn't sound like a great plan - why not hire a boat and weigh the suitcase down and toss it out a sea? They could have BBQ'd him as they would have deft skills in that. That's why I don't believe Shauna would have had the BBQ of the journals under a tree (that caught fire) or wouldn't have made sure that all the bits were burned. It seemed a bit weak to have just Adam's photo left preserved for Callie to find (What are the chances?)

colourmebladd · 15/04/2023 06:42

Oh sorry I meant cabin dead guy!

Kittylickingplate · 15/04/2023 08:17

Good point, did they move the skeleton?

Netaporter · 16/04/2023 03:37

In the last episode the flashback included a reference to one of the survivors claiming she had already eaten a person as she’d absorbed her twin. Do we think this has something to do with the fate of Shauna’s male baby? Is this one of the things she’s ashamed of? Do we know that Jeff knew about the first pregnancy? Agree the bunker is where Javi is most likely to be feeding from. It’s all so bonkers and I love it. Christina Ricci’s facial expressions are just perfect for the role.

theWarOnPeace · 16/04/2023 14:02

Oh but I’ve just remembered Shauna said someone had been stealing bear meat - could that have been Javi? And as Jackie died of cold and Lottie very nearly did in a short amount of time, there’s no way he’d have been outside exposed to the elements with hardly any clothes or a fire and survived.

I can sense myself getting all Game of Thrones-y about this show, thinking every detail has meaning and trying to piece it together, when we might get to the final series/episode and be like wtf was the twin absorption thing about??

Robinni · 16/04/2023 14:09

I’m rewatching s1 this wk as feel like I’ve forgotten too much!! Can’t really get into s2 yet, Lottie is seeming more herself at least.

HalloumiFries · 17/04/2023 14:40

Caught up on ep.4 now. Didn't expect the Javi reveal so soon and interested to see where it goes from here. Bunker theory is gaining traction now though, via Lottie's vision.

Overall, I found it a more engaging episode than the first three but it still seems to be uneccessarily padded out. Each episode so far is 50 minutes of pointless side quest, with a massive reveal at the end.

Can anyone tell me why I recognise Lisa's mum. It's driving me mad and google isn't helping.

Loved the end scene: love Lauren Ambrose, love 90's Van and can't wait to see what she has to say about Tai/everything else.

I went down a reddit rabbithole last night and found some very interesting theories about pit girl and whether that scene took place in the 90s or present day. Lots of food for thought (no pun intended).

Kittylickingplate · 18/04/2023 10:19

What do we think of Callie being so on board?

SapatSea · 18/04/2023 19:14

Callie is an idiot. I think she'll keep seeing Jay (the detective) even though she cancelled him once ( golf course date Grin) and she'll either spill because she needs to tell someone or will end up killing him (when she finds out he is a cop). I liked the initial fan theory that he was Adam's brother rather than a stupid cop who will ruin the case by getting involved with a high school kid.

What do people make of Walter (Elijah Wood),what is he up to? Does his back story check out? I can't believe that Misty would not know where Lottie was and who the "purple people" are. It's a big retreat. No way would Misty still think Lottie was in a Swiss Clinic having ECT.

Kittylickingplate · 19/04/2023 00:46

I find Walter too good to be true. A millionaire who just happens to like all the things Misty does?
All through the first season I was so behind Shauna, that she was sweet and good but just going through some stuff(IMO) , it's because both actresses played her so well. Now with the consuming Jacqui so voraciously and wanting to kill that man for the kicks, the scales have fallen from my eyes and I am shook.
She is bat shit crazy and always has been. I love this show.
