First time I've ever had a thread that filled up!
@PaperwhiteTheGhost Can't believe I forgot AG, it's my most hated hymn ever!

Watching the old ones you realise how many people just vanished. Obviously main actors you can't always just bring back for a wedding but in general people vanish and are never spoken again. Fred could at least mention his daughter and if she came to visit wearing a different head then we wouldn't notice anyway.

uhtredbebbanburg · 27/02/2023 10:55

The car crash was awful and I don’t know why it had to end that way. I’m from a similar culture clash and the two grandma situation is real! My DD and I were enjoying it, saying we should let new mums in our community know about this episode. Until the end…. And I love a good wedding episode but the run up and actual wedding were boring for this one. The only interesting bit was when Trixie was nostalgic about leaving her NH room.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 27/02/2023 10:59

The Tupperware cereal container on the table was the wrong era, Tupperware was around then but not in those colours and that container didn’t come out until the 90’s

I sold loads of Tupperware during the 90’s, the biggest seller was those Space Saver containers. I remember the big reveal of the New Innovative Stackable Storage Containers.
They came in all different sizes, I’ve got loads.
It’s little things like this, the lack of research, attention to detail that annoys me.
Loved Mrs Turners outfits, I made an outfit just like it for my sister, peacock blue satin. The Jackie Kennedy look.
Trixie’s Wedding dress was an odd mix of styles, the top was of the era but the skirt didn’t gel, loved the Pillbox and veil though, Suited her. Thart bloody tiara was awful.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 27/02/2023 11:02

PS Jerusalem was my dads favourite hymn and mine too.
Loved Sr. Monica Joan’s reading, beautifully delivered.

Hideous. Trixie and Matthew deserve each other. She's a spoiled whinger and he keeps turning up like a bad smell. Olly Rix is a brilliant actor onstage but the character is written as a creepy man who is randomly there in every scene. Trixie's actress can't act for toffee and never has been able to carry off anything that's not whinging or being patronising. If they write them both out the show will be much better for it.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 27/02/2023 11:08

Oh also Trixie's brother is so agonisingly, stereotypically gay. You just wouldn't be out like that in the time period unless you were Noel Coward.

I thought that 😂

shumway · 27/02/2023 11:26

Why do the doctor and his wife always act like they're in a panto?

LavenderHillMob · 27/02/2023 12:30

Dogearedpage · 27/02/2023 00:53

The crash scene was ridiculous. I’m sure CPR was common practice long before 1968! As if any doctor or nurse would come across someone with no pulse and just decide they’re dead without making any effort to resuscitate them. Then Dr Turner still managed to do that f*ing annoying cheesy grin he does in almost every scene when he delivered the baby.

You'd also like to think a midwife & maternity home Dr might know that large ladies lay on the left...

Get the baby off her aorta and she might have had an output.

CuriousMama · 27/02/2023 12:37

I know I couldn't believe the grin! The dead mother was laid in the road ffs. Who writes this shit??

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/02/2023 12:41

I watched Endeavour last night. After reading this thread I'm not sure I'll even bother watching CTM. I can't stand Trixie anyway.

SirChenjins · 27/02/2023 12:51

I stopped watching it ages because primarily because it was utter shite, but switched on last night because I'm a sucker for a wedding. I shouldn't have bothered - it was still utter shite. I know it's easy, hankies at the ready, Sunday night viewing, but it's so far fetched, so badly acted by many of them, and so mawkish it's actually comical.

Xol · 26/02/2023 23:25

I'm guessing Trixie's brother is being placed for a future Aids storyline.

That's exactly what I said to DH

seperatedmum · 27/02/2023 13:20

I'm really thick but was the idea that if the Turners hadn't pulled over to take off Dr Smug's tail coat then they would've met the fate the Yu's met instead? as they passed them? were the Yu's supposed to have hit/swerved something which caused the crash? I also thought "why was that shoehorned in?"

ouch321 · 27/02/2023 13:21

Which midwives are left now?

Trixie may continue to work but won't live at Nonantus.

Lucille seems to have vanished for good.

Nancy is in 2 minds about leaving.

So it's just Nurse Crane, Sis Veronica, Sis Monica and Sis Julienne right?

There used to be so many living at Nonatus everyone had to share a bedroom. The cast seems majorly slimmed down.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/02/2023 13:26

It was a bit like the Downton Christmas special where they killed off Matthew. Completely unnecessary in a happy episode.

I thought it was because they stopped that the YU's swerved.

seperatedmum · 27/02/2023 13:29

Oh @Toddlerteaplease ! I didn't get that because it seemed to be a few hundred yards up the road and the Turner's seemed to be pulled over fine but I can see that 🥺

bizzey · 27/02/2023 13:30

And pregnant lady had her head out of the window sort of backwards ...waving to them .

Head was already in twisted angle at point of crash .

TwoForTheDough · 27/02/2023 13:36

I think the pulling over was just the plot device to get the Turner's behind so they could come to the rescue.

I do think it was ridiculous they went to the wedding anyway. Everything about their characters suggests they'd have stayed with the family to look after them.

TrashyPanda · 27/02/2023 13:42

The Yus weren’t exactly going fast when they passed the Turners.
less than a minute between that and the crash.
cars in the 60s did not accelerate like they do now

so pretty unrealistic

wonder if Trixie and St Matt the Wooden will have fertility issues? That would be an interesting SL - something neither the omnipotent DrT or St Matts cash can’t do much about.

if the family was so hard up/didn’t have easily accessible money that they had to sell the tiara to pay for a cruise, how come ST Matt was able to buy a whole building at the drop of a hat?

PuttingDownRoots · 27/02/2023 13:42

I actually cam understand going to the wedding. Its a shock response.

I actually went to my best friends wedding after a shock as in my head, as not going would upset my friend and her day should be happy. Its only afterwards it seemed bizarre.

I wondered if it would end up with the Turners adopting the babe. Sheila had said earlier in the episode that they had already adopted a Chinese baby.

Quite relieved the mums made it up in the end.

I agree with all of you - that episode seemed disjointed, stuttery, lots of unnecessary bits. We all know Dr and Mrs Smug are amazing, do we really need to see (and hear Hmm) the roadside caesarian? So sad. They then go and get changed, and spend the rest of the day smiling and laughing and eating and drinking...
The suits don't fit oh haha Fred is too fat, Cyril's arms are too long - oh well Mrs Buckle is on it, except the phone doesn't get answered! Next scene - all beautifully suited and booted...
The 'fight' about the Tiara - Trixie really is a spoilt brat. Matthew had better get used to that shrill whining.
The wedding party all in the hotel, Trixie is whining that she won't come out untill it stops raining - the next minute there is a fire alarm, the next they are all in the church.

And someone finds out that the hotel is burning down...

I actually loved the dress (and Meghan's) and the little pill box hat (can you really make one of those at home?) but all the mis-understandings (food/flowers/glasses) all being delivered to the wrong address. all SO overdone.
The tunnel in Poplar looked lovely. But as PP said, how manyof Matthew's friends/family would be sitting in a railway tunnel at night in the rain?

What a mess.
