First time I've ever had a thread that filled up!
@PaperwhiteTheGhost Can't believe I forgot AG, it's my most hated hymn ever!

I am so cross about the car crash storyline, it was a shit plot device and ruined the whole thing. Just incredibly unbelievable that they’d have a fatal car crash at that speed. Why couldn’t they just have had a happy ending!

aramox1 · 26/02/2023 23:00

Wedding tailor clearly up there with Meghan's

TrashyPanda · 26/02/2023 23:08

Trixie’s pillbox hat and veil was straight out of I Dream of Jeannie

Taytocrisps · 26/02/2023 23:11

I'd forgotten about health farms. There was a lot of talk about them in the '80s I think, but then spas took over.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/02/2023 23:18

I feel like we've had plenty of Poplar weddings and receptions too - Chummy, Barbara, the Turners, the Buckles, Lucille and Cyril, various patients including the one who gave birth at her reception in the community centre.

Seeing Trixie marry in Chelsea and have a posh reception would've been a nice change of pace 😁

Maybe they could've done a storyline involving Jonty, over two episodes - followed by a heartwarming resolution and the wedding going ahead - although I can't think of anything that hasn't been done before in past series.

That's exactly what I thought of 😁

Xol · 26/02/2023 23:25

I'm guessing Trixie's brother is being placed for a future Aids storyline.

Taytocrisps · 26/02/2023 23:30

Oh didn't consider that @Xol

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/02/2023 23:31

Aren't we only up to the late 1960s? It would need a good 10+ years (more likely 15) to get to that era, no?

longtompot · 26/02/2023 23:35

Xol · 26/02/2023 23:25

I'm guessing Trixie's brother is being placed for a future Aids storyline.

I wondered if he was going to be in future episodes, just for being gay. I guess it depends on what years the next few series go up to as the aid's epidemic wasn't until the early 80s thought I remember the ads with the giant tombstone in the mid to late 80s.
We didn't meet her other brother did we?

CuriousMama · 26/02/2023 23:43

The morning suits just got mixed up didn't they?

I was disappointed tonight. The crash was awful. The whole episode was disjointed imo.

Dogearedpage · 27/02/2023 00:53

The crash scene was ridiculous. I’m sure CPR was common practice long before 1968! As if any doctor or nurse would come across someone with no pulse and just decide they’re dead without making any effort to resuscitate them. Then Dr Turner still managed to do that f*ing annoying cheesy grin he does in almost every scene when he delivered the baby.

They've done all the storylines now. God knows how they will get another 3 series out of it.
I remember a discussion about people dying after a low impact crash. In the episode with the newsagent who'd just rained in Poplar from NI. Cars had very little safety features in those days. Lizzie sustaining a catastrophic head injury at that speed is a bit unbelievable. And also that she'd die so quickly. Head injuries se not my thing. But surely the body would keep going for a little while?

Goodness it sounds like it was a completely random episode! I shall be today. I'm still working my way through the older ones, series 3 now so Sister Bernadette has exchanged her habit for the simpering of Mrs Turner and Sister MJ has diagnosed Cystic Fibrosis. I think we're at that cusp where they've used most of the original stories now but still have others from contributers and are still managing to show the realistically instead of making a huge song and dance about it all.

Can they really keep the nuns relevant for another 3 series? Even in series 3 they lost Shelagh and Sister Julienne said that numbers of new postulants are dropping. And at that point they have MJ, Evangelina, Julienne, Winnefred has replaced Bernadette and then there were always 3 or 4 background nuns (which at least made it realistic when all other characters involved in something together so there was someone left to be on call!) Now there is hardly anybody left.

KrasiTime · 27/02/2023 08:03

Distant cousin was killed in a car crash instantly in the late 70’s. The driver walked away with a few scratches. No seatbelts.

Wondering about Colette’s storyline as well and a possibility of an AIDS one.

St Matthew strikes again! Such an awful actor.

PuttingDownRoots · 27/02/2023 08:09

I had a dream last night where Matthew and Trixie went to wash peoples feet and I blame you lot!!

Depends how bad the head injury is. A Sub arachnoid haemorrhage can kill almost instantly. I was wondering if her neck was broken though? Seatbelts not a big thing in those days.

I also can't believe the Turners were able to go to the wedding. I'm a Turners fan, and that script did them a disservice. Maternal death is a horrible thing to have to experience, no matter how experienced you are.

blobby10 · 27/02/2023 09:34

Did the Turners actually go back to their house and get changed? I know there was some comment about having to but Shelagh's outfit looked so remarkably similar I wondered if I was mistaken?

And is it me or is Timothy becoming as irritating as his bloody father?!!

Toddlerteaplease · 27/02/2023 10:16

@PaperwhiteTheGhost if it wasn't broken before she was manhandled out of the car. It was afterwards.

Admittedly I wasn't paying that much attention by then but I thought I clocked Shelagh wearing a teal skirt suit when previously she'd been wearing a royal blue one.

Razberryberet · 27/02/2023 10:30

I think CTM really let themselves down with this one, that crash was unnecessary it should have been a happy episode seeing Trixie finally get married! It ruined the whole episode for me!

TeamadIshbel · 27/02/2023 10:46

I was looking forward to a reunion! Bloody hell..... the roadside C section was heartbreaking, the suits, thought Violet Buckle would have been on that one, Mathew....... JFC Trixie can't say she hasn't been warned, terrible throaty delivery of all lines in an intensely wooden way. What a waste of an wedding episode for the only remaining original nurse.
Timothy is lovely though.

TrashyPanda · 27/02/2023 10:47

The wedding and all the guff leading up to was what ruined the ep for me.

ten minutes at the end of the ep would have been more than enough.

TrashyPanda · 27/02/2023 10:49

I love Timothy too.

poor guy was probably deeply traumatised but no consideration given to that. Nope, he had to trot off to a wedding with a stiff upper lip.

give the sainted DrT has personal experience of mental health issues, you’d think he might have actually given some thought to the impact on his son.
