It was an unfair challenge and although I like Jack and he is clearly artistic he had a blank canvas and had a massive advantage. Feeling like I'm not really interested in the final after that.

If Monica had been given Jack's blank canvass she would have done her usual thing though.

Did Michelle say they shouldn't just give the client what they asked for or something along those lines? I feel Jack absolutely did that, Tom did to a lesser degree (softened the brick walls with fabric which was actually quite clever as they could remove it if they wanted the bare brick back) and Monika basically did Monika.

I do like Monika and she does "her" thing well but I don't think she is finalist material.

LadyDanburysHat · 19/04/2023 08:48

Part of me thinks Tom went because he is too similar to Banjo from last year, older than the others. I think they clearly want a young person. How Monika has made it this far I do not know.

Beebumble2 · 19/04/2023 08:50

I agree that Monica is a weak candidate, those metal ceiling grids and pathetic plastic plants were just awful, along with the lampshades.
Tom’s big mistake was not to consider the outside space as part of the design, plants ( real) and natural references would have complimented the brick and urban features that the owners wished to retain.

LadyEloise1 · 19/04/2023 08:59

Anyone else think Tom sounds like Bono from U2 with a small bit of Graham Norton in the mix ?

I love love love Jack's own sitting room.
And he made the ceiling himself.

I hope Tom gets to be the interior designer he wants to be.
He's more versatile than Monika.

freyamay74 · 19/04/2023 09:19

I agree about Tom having far more capacity and potential. No one would hire Monika unless they wanted Gothic and tbh her style really isn't hard to replicate. If I was into that look, I'd paint the room in dark colours myself and source a few stuffed animals and icons to place in it. I wouldn't feel I needed Monika to show me how to do that. I do think Tom (and Jack to a lesser extent, though to be fair he's younger and less experienced) have genuine flair for looking at a space and coming up with design ideas that a client wouldn't necessarily think of themselves, whereas Monika just dresses a space in Gothic.

I would have liked to see Tom and Jack in the final; I think it would make for a much more exciting programme. I imagine Jack will win (well, I hope so anyway) but I think the final will be less gripping than it could be

jay55 · 19/04/2023 11:39

Monika's seemed a much smaller space than the other two.
Would have been so much better if they'd mixed the briefs up, so they were least like the designers own style, to level things out a bit.
Like everyone else can't believe Monika stayed with the terrible lighting, the one thing Tom got really right.

PriamFarrl · 19/04/2023 12:39

I wonder if they suddenly realised that if they had Jack and Tom the final would be two white men.

Muu · 19/04/2023 13:02

I was disappointed because I wanted Tom to win and his was my favourite. Sigh. I think they all did a good job though.

ScattyHattie · 19/04/2023 18:31

Mary & Michelle in their matchy denim outfits this week, just passing by the salons on their way to the B*witched reunion 😂

Jack seemed like he lost his confidence a bit this week, the mountain range would've worked fine just painted different shades of grey than faffing about for ages with the sand. He wasted time doing that tree branch for the VIP area when stapling some gold paper leaves too it was always going to look crap. A shame because I think overall his design was the best and the reception looked great. His salon appeared to be easier to work with of the 3.

Tom I think did well with the restrictions of his odd space although I hated the browny new mural and the finish on that reception desk made it look worse than the original. I like Monica but would've preferred she got sent home as I'm bored of all the dark goth granny rooms now and didn't meet the fictional needs.

Surely an interior designer starting out needs to be versatile to meet their clients preferences and be able to put aside their personal preferred style choices.

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/04/2023 18:38

I've only just found this thread after binging the series so far. If I was going to choose one of them to do my house I would choose Jack so I want him to win.

Madcats · 19/04/2023 19:39

I just wish that they gave the judges contestants a bit longer to think about the brief, with background reading about basic health and safety (nursery) and lighting requirements etc for the hair salon etc.

Some of the spaces are so impractical.

WhatsitWiggle · 19/04/2023 21:42

I honestly thought Monica was going home, she keeps running out of time and her areas aren't quite finished.

Tom had the hardest brief IMO, his salon had such a strong identity to start that he was limited in what he could do. The others were more blank canvas.

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/04/2023 22:07

I think Monika stayed in by the skin of her teeth a few times.

freyamay74 · 19/04/2023 22:30

Flipping heck, he owns that at his age?!
Decor isn't to my taste at all but it looks like a lovely location

He lives with a partner, I'm guessing someone older.

ChocChipHandbag · 19/04/2023 22:46

I was so impressed by Jack's skill at hand-painting the bamboo and blossom.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 19/04/2023 23:03

@ChocChipHandbag they looked as young as each other on the VT

SwedishEdith · 19/04/2023 23:05

Those open wooden stairs 😯

Halsall · 19/04/2023 23:23

Just looking at the photo of those stairs is bringing me out in a cold sweat and palpitations 🫣

And seven hundred grand? Yikes. He may regret laughingly revealing on camera how he made all the mouldings out of chewing gum and modelling clay, or whatever it was.

viques · 19/04/2023 23:34

Who puts their luggage (even if it is Louis Vuitton) in a display case ffs. And surely there should be a run of cladding somewhere, neatly stapled onto battens and poorly painted? I can’t imagine anyone enjoying living in such a self consciously curated space with no real books or personal items , even having a coffee cup in the wrong place would probably start him twitching.

viques · 19/04/2023 23:41

And looking at street view and the map it is inches from the road, and just up the road from the crematorium. Location location etc

Netaporter · 19/04/2023 23:44

Top stalking by @WhatsitWiggle 😂

It is a very odd style- a mix of Versace-esque chairs, random Roman pillars, then the modern staircase (highly unlikely to pass building control standards 😂) and the LV display purposes only luggage. Not at all like his tv style? I feel very confused…

SoupDragon · 20/04/2023 07:57

I imagine it's been staged for sale, like many properties are. The advice is always to "de clutter" so personal items would be removed. I mean, no one has champagne glasses and a bottle at the foot of their bed normally!

they should have swept the balcony properly though.
