Bloody hell, reality tv and no mistake

Borris · 13/03/2023 22:01

I can't believe he didn't even manage 24 hours out of prison!

Toddlerteaplease · 13/03/2023 22:01

Don't think it's acceptable that Reuben is still waiting though.

Borris · 13/03/2023 22:02

I thought Ruben took the disappointment well actually

Hellocatshome · 13/03/2023 22:19

I cant believe after all that they asked for more reports for Ruben. By the time he gets a proper hearing his time will be up. Mark seems like someone who will be in and out of prison for a long time to come. I wasn't convinced Tom wouldn't relapse but thought he might manage more than 3 weeks.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/03/2023 22:26

I thought Tom would relapse. The temptation of being able to earn that much money, as well as his addiction would be just too strong. Hope his mum is ok though. She was risking everything for him.

It's really quite sad hearing how many people get into trouble again after they've got out of prison (whether that's automatically released or released by the parole board)

Floralnomad · 14/03/2023 00:53

The drug addict will never get clean and the other 2 will constantly ping in and out of prison , particularly the one in Leeds who frankly thought he’d done nothing wrong

Toddlerteaplease · 14/03/2023 02:38

I hope that Marks children are with someone who has a good influence. And that social care are heavily involved. Otherwise the cycle will continue. I agree that Mark will never get clean.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/03/2023 06:10

Tom, would not get clean.

Gosh this series is depressing. But I think the Parole Board generally seems to be making the right decisions. I felt sorry for Reuben - an extra 6 months because someone didn’t do their job. On camera at least, he took it v
well.

Tom’s Mum - what a parent. I was pleased he wasn’t recalled to prison / he needs massive help to stay clean. Every parent’s nightmare.

my son has severe ADHD and when he was
diagnosed the psychiatrist said that about 75 % of the prison population have ADHD and mostly committed their crimes when not medicated. Yet - if I hadn’t have gone
private, it would have taken 26 months to get a diagnosis.

This programme definitely reinforces my view that prison is a social dustbin for 25% of the prison population - they need help, not imprisonment.

queenofthewild · 14/03/2023 09:09

I wasn't convinced Tom was completely clean in his interviews. His eyes were all over the place.

Ruben was badly let down by the processes, but this also highlights the desperate state of the probation service. He came across as calm and charming, but the violent offences he has committed make me reluctant to trust that he has or could change. I'm not sure I'd be able to live with myself knowing I'd killed a person or thrown bleach on someone else.

The chap in Leeds. His reaction to having to complete the additional work whilst inside was enough to prove he can't moderate his reactions yet at all.

starrox · 14/03/2023 21:49

Mark seemed like he had a learning disability to me.

maranella · 15/03/2023 15:53

Mark clearly has serious ADHD - I could see it immediately and thought 'Why isn't that bloke medicated if he's in prison?', and then it turned out that he was! Bloody hell! He must be completely uncontrollable when he's off his meds.

I found the parole officer's questioning of him unintentionally hilarious at times. Paraphrasing what I can remember:

Parole officer: So can we talk about your ex-partner? You met in 2016 and split up in 2018. Why was that?
Mark: I was sleeping with the woman across the road.
Parole officer's face was a picture.

PO: Okay, so let's talk about your index offence. You were jailed for making threats to kill. How did that come about?
Mark: Well I was outside my ex's house and we was arguing and I said 'I'm going to put a brick through your window in a minute'.
PO: That's not all your said, is it?
Mark: Well no, then I said 'I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!'

And that was after he'd told us initially that he didn't know why he was in prison. He looked really scary when he recounted it too. I bet his ex heaved a massive sigh of relief when he was denied parole.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/03/2023 17:57

Knew that was coming with Mark.

Question for anyone who knows, where there is obviously a psychiatric illness involved as with some of these candidates what determines whether you get a custodial sentence in a prison or a mandatory lengthy stay on what they call a forensic psychiatric unit? It seems very randomly applied

Zippidydoda · 15/03/2023 20:05

starrox · 14/03/2023 21:49

Mark seemed like he had a learning disability to me.

I think there are a lot of people in prison with LD and other needs.

I remember reading once about history of serious head trauma being more common amongst prisoners than the genera population.

Zippidydoda · 15/03/2023 20:06

It was very sad that one didn’t get parole because of work not done with him through no fault of his own. I don’t blame the individual works specifically, because I know the state the system is in and how difficult the working conditions are. However I don’t see that getting better with our ridiculously increasing prison population.

chocandchurro · 15/03/2023 20:26

I was cringing with embarrassment when that hearing got adjourned tbh. Total shitshow.

purpleme12 · 15/03/2023 20:58

Yes I felt bad for him cos it only got cancelled cos someone couldn't do their job right

purpleme12 · 28/06/2023 23:24

He was trying to come away from crime by committing more crime 🤣

purpleme12 · 28/06/2023 23:26

The drug one looks very pleased with himself

purpleme12 · 28/06/2023 23:27

He said he wasn't making a lot... Then says he was making £800-£1000 a day 😮

purpleme12 · 28/06/2023 23:31

It seems like he's blaming his drunken behaviour on the people who are around him at the time

purpleme12 · 28/06/2023 23:42

I'm not sure what exactly Ben was recalled been to prison for?

purpleme12 · 28/06/2023 23:48

40 offences for this person
