NEW 5 part drama to be shown weekly on a Monday

a corrupt cop now realises she must betray her drug baron boss

19 years ago, when Lou was a young police officer at her lowest ebb and Col a low-ranking but ambitious newcomer to the Leeds underworld, their paths crossed, and they struck a deal that changed their lives forever.

The bargain allowed Col to become very rich and very powerful, and Lou to turn around her failing career.

A complex but special bond between the pair was forged, and so began Lou’s gradual slide into corruption. But now, when Lou’s family is brought to the brink of a tragedy, she must put right the wrongs that she has spent years rationalising and excusing, to have a second chance at a new, better life.

Set and shot entirely in Leeds and West Yorkshire, Better explores the complex and powerful bonds of loyalty and family, set in a world where everyone has their own version of “right” and “wrong”. Examining the power of human conscience, we follow DI Lou Slack’s (Leila Farzad) epic battle towards redemption, by bringing down Col McHugh (Andrew Buchan); the man she has come to love like a brother and the man she has helped place at the head of Leeds criminal underworld. But while Col is a dangerous enemy to make, Lou’s biggest battle may yet be with herself.

I didn't think much of it last week but it's growing on me so I think I'll stick with it. Anton Lesser is good .
.

the80sweregreat · 21/02/2023 17:27

I like the main lady character and the gangster man is a bit different, you would pass him in the street. Doesn't look menacing at all , even though he is.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/02/2023 21:29

I'm another one who loves Anton Lesser in anything, so that's me who will keep watching.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2023 18:02

Tho who is doing the blabbing. Jade said it wasn't her

Who who grassed up the plant house (see what I did) 😂

What does col expect to get from the support group /befriending her son

The old copper reminded me of someone

'Tho who is doing the blabbing. Jade said it wasn't her'

Lou said to Col it was Jade so it didn't look dodgy that they pitched up at the safe house as she knew where it was.

I think the befriending thing was a bit odd, wasn't it Col's son? if so she could have easily have seem him entering or leaving, an unknown face would've been better. I presume it's for a future abduction/blackmail plan or similar in return for her keeping schtum.

I thought the same @Janiie - they are suspicious of her, This gives them leverage.

I like Kiwi the dog very much and wish she was mine.

daffodilandtulip · 22/02/2023 19:48

I think the befriending thing is to get close to the whole family - like a threat?

I don't get why the husband seems to know what's going on, and why he's so chilled about it?

raguragu · 23/02/2023 13:30

Is there an episode 6?

raguragu · 23/02/2023 13:34

How does a vulnerable child get to attend group counselling with adults?

Safeguarding not a factor in Leeds?

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2023 14:39

No @raguragu It's 5 parts

OP posts:
raguragu · 24/02/2023 10:55

Five is an unusual number: it's usually 4/6/8

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2023 13:39

Agree very strange unless was a mon to Fri

Will come back to this thread when TV pace has ended - but I feel I wasted 5 hours of my life watching this. Good premise, rubbish execution.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2023 13:47

Really @Hels20

I've enjoyed 1&2 so far

I ended up not caring about any of the characters. Even Esther.

I enjoyed the whole thing!

BackT · 26/02/2023 14:02

I've just done this one and I loved it! Yes it was unbelievable in a lot of ways but I liked the touch of humour.

No spoilers but I'm really surprised that you lot don't like it!

Hels20 · 26/02/2023 16:40

Just so unbelievable. I mean - she is so scared about being seen with Col but turns up to his birthday party! And I don’t quite understand their friendship/relationship (or maybe I fell asleep when it was revealed). Had they dated at some point?

LadyEloise1 · 26/02/2023 17:08

FadoFado · 13/02/2023 21:17

if you were a bent copper would you be going to your kingpin gangster friend's house for your tea? Seems risky.

This !

LadyEloise1 · 26/02/2023 17:09

Orangelover · 13/02/2023 22:07

Eugh I really wanted to like this, enjoyed all the performances but couldn't get past how indiscreet she is as a bent copper? Some very high risk behaviour going on - even taking on criminals dogs Hmm

Wouldn't take AC12 long to sus her out..

And this. 💯

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2023 18:06

Tho maybe as she is so obvious talking to him other think it's as a copper

OP posts:
Hels20 · 26/02/2023 21:17

I agree with PP - the whole take down of Noel was ridiculous. I mean - her going into the flat on her own to talk him into surrendering. Would that really happen? And then why did she take the dog? Stupid. Sorry Blondes / even 2 episodes in I just thought I have seen so much better. I thought the Lou actress was fine but couldn’t quite get my head around Andrew Buchanan being Irish. And why did he have to be Irish?

MrsJBaptiste · 26/02/2023 21:48

Just finished it... 🥱 so dull...

newnamethanks · 26/02/2023 22:41

Never mind people. As blondes has probably reminded everyone, a new series of Unforgotten tomorrow, itv, 9pm. Hurrah! Please let it be OK and not ruined by Cassie's absence.
