NEW 5 part drama to be shown weekly on a Monday

a corrupt cop now realises she must betray her drug baron boss

19 years ago, when Lou was a young police officer at her lowest ebb and Col a low-ranking but ambitious newcomer to the Leeds underworld, their paths crossed, and they struck a deal that changed their lives forever.

The bargain allowed Col to become very rich and very powerful, and Lou to turn around her failing career.

A complex but special bond between the pair was forged, and so began Lou’s gradual slide into corruption. But now, when Lou’s family is brought to the brink of a tragedy, she must put right the wrongs that she has spent years rationalising and excusing, to have a second chance at a new, better life.

Set and shot entirely in Leeds and West Yorkshire, Better explores the complex and powerful bonds of loyalty and family, set in a world where everyone has their own version of “right” and “wrong”. Examining the power of human conscience, we follow DI Lou Slack’s (Leila Farzad) epic battle towards redemption, by bringing down Col McHugh (Andrew Buchan); the man she has come to love like a brother and the man she has helped place at the head of Leeds criminal underworld. But while Col is a dangerous enemy to make, Lou’s biggest battle may yet be with herself.

Hi blondie. Please could you do me a favour and include me in your list of tagged people, when a new drama comes up. I always end up watching your recommendations anyway. Thank you!! X

Now vipey can you restrain yourself to weekly watching 😂

Cross my heart and hope to die
Cut my throat if I tell a lie.*

*This is legally binding.

I entered into a similar contract when my friend told me a secret when I was 9, and have maintained silence ever since, as is evidenced by the fact that I have an uncut throat.

Squints eyes

You binged @martinisforeveryone 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀

Can you show restraint on this thread 😂😂😂

Martinis should feel ashamed of herself Blondes.

<judgemental>

Plus Anton Lesser read them Dear Zoo in a Shakespeare style out on the street one evening Grin

I used ti have such a crush on Anton Lesser Back In The Day . . .

<sigh>

Hmmmm you wouldn't tell me even if you did binge @Emotionalsupportviper

But think of the joy you had every week dissecting happy valley and the sweet anticipation of the next episode

6weeks of pleasure

Instead of one night and 6 hours

I genuinely think one of the things that made Happy Valley so enjoyable was the fact that you couldn't binge it. It was real 'appointment to view' telly. Built up the suspense, and therefore the enjoyment.

I did Blondes - I thoroughly enjoyed it, an so have my real-life friends (YES- I HAVE FRIENDS) that I've talked about it with. In fact only yesterday I was having coffee with one who still hasn't watched all the episodes - I mentioned it and she shouted "DON'T TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS". 😀

It has been much more enjoyable - the speculation and the anticipation. Just like the olden days.

Plus you would know if I'd binged because I wouldn't be able to look any of you in the eye - I'd look really shifty . . . ) 😶😬😳

Totally agree @BIWI

I don't get why bbc show all programmes via iPlayer

Surely it would also ruin their viewing figures as people won't be watching it at 9pm etx as have seen all

Far better to show weekly then at end to have all on iPlayer for those who missed if /didn't see and can catch up

@Emotionalsupportviper

Seems you have truely seen the error of your binging ways 😂

I love the weekly wait. So can savour an episode and chat about things - that may have missed but other people spotted

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun

I've name changed but still get your updates under my previous name.

martinisforeveryone · 11/02/2023 11:10

Mea Culpa 😊

In my defence I haven't joined a thread when I've binge watched anything. Most of what we binge is either very old, or it was during lockdown and I did binge on the first two series of HV as we'd never seen it and wanted to catch up quickly.
The other stuff, like Maternal is stuff I watch alone.

Anyway top and bottom of it, I won't binge on Better.

But no worries if don't want to be outed either

Hmm Bailey & Scott?

Scott and Bailey's less successful younger sisters.

They do a lot of traffic work - point duty, parking tickets, bald tires - that sort of thing. 😁

(Sorry Blondes - I couldn't resist. Just teasing.)

If I'd read the start of the thread properly, I wouldn't have sat here for the last 15 minutes trying to decide if she was bent or undercover 🙈

daffodilandtulip · 13/02/2023 21:15

But yes definitely faster than The Gold already!

FadoFado · 13/02/2023 21:17

if you were a bent copper would you be going to your kingpin gangster friend's house for your tea? Seems risky.
