Apparently he was a self proclaimed seduction guru who Scarlett's old school mate had hired, at great expense, to help him get a date.

Just I think the younger bloke said he had paid/ hired him, to help him chat up women and get a girl friend, because he had grown up with no female role models, and was clueless. Not realising what the older bloke's agenda actually was.

Was anybody else disgusted at the content of today's episode? So awful and unnecessary.

I rarely do this, but I'm going to submit a complaint to the BBC about it, as I feel it was in really bad taste.

i agree actually. The entire storyline felt forced and unnecessary. It was all a bit odd.
