Is it weird to say no game spoilers? I've not played the game so don't know the game story line

Who else is watching?

The 1st 2 episodes were really good

But wow. Ep 3 is amazing.

I actually cried over characters I'd known for less than 1 hour

have now watched e5 and it was good. The fight scenes were very computer game like, Joel's sniper position and the infected hard to kill giant.

Apparently that was a bloater?

I liked this episode very much, nice balance of action. I've never played the computer game but the DC I watch it with has told me what happens.

In the opening scene of Episode One the scientist played by John Hannah makes it very clear that there is no cure for an Cordyceps infection and that there never can be a cure for it.

I feel like the professor of mycology woman was also clear on that, thinking about it?

She chose 'bomb us all' over any attempt for a cure.

Prevention is better than cure

Please please please don't post anything even slightly spoilery! I might avoid this thread now...

Botw1 · 14/02/2023 13:44

I don't want spoilers either

But I think it's OK to discuss what has been shown and to speculate?

It's really difficult to avoid spoilers on other sm anyway sigh.

OP posts:
gamerchick · 14/02/2023 13:58

When the second season comes about, given the death threats and whatnot from the TRAs to voice actors over the game, people might go out of their way to spoil the story line. I'd hide any talk of it on SM, no matter how innocent it looks

IClaudine · 14/02/2023 13:59

Yes, fine to discuss and speculate! I an trying to avoid other SM about it.

IClaudine · 14/02/2023 14:00

I have a theory about the title, which I realised last night could be interpreted to mean a number of things...I hope I am wrong though.

Botw1 · 14/02/2023 14:05

@gamerchick

Ive seen vague stuff about that on SM and I presume that was the thing pp was referring to when her brother refused to buy the game

There’s five types of monster/infection ....
runners - which are at the first stages of infection
stalkers
clickers - the ones we saw in ep 2 in the muses.
bloaters/ shamblers.... to me they are the same, depends who you ask... the big one in ep5 is one of these.
I loved that whole scene.... especially as in the game that happens in daylight, I think it was better in the dark 🙃

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 14/02/2023 14:18

So we haven’t seen stalkers or muses yet? New terrors await us, I guess.

It was a very intense episode. So weird seeing Katherine sit on a chair with her sweet nursery school teacher voice and then end up “burn the bodies, it’s faster.”

I briefly had my hopes up for Sam, and found the ending so sad.

Maybe. Can't stress enough that it's best to swerve talk of season 2. It looks like this season is going to pan out lovely, just wish it was more than 9 episodes though. They've worked properly hard on it, it's the first time I've been impressed with a film adaptation really.

It could open doors to other game adaptations if it gets the reception that's expected.

gamerchick · 14/02/2023 14:24

Shamblers are definitely not bloaters Grin

tbf they haven't given them names really in the program. The looks of frozen horror are enough.

SprungIsSpringing · 14/02/2023 14:35

I have resited but why oh why oh why does a sentence like this give me the urge to immediately Google it and spoil it for myself.

I am too nosey!!! Grin

IClaudine · 14/02/2023 14:35

Do the infected have a normal human lifespan?

Yeah I'm the same. I'm liking that people are seeing it will through fresh eyes. I'm quite jealous Grin

I found this page about the stages of infection
thelastofus.fandom.com/wiki/Infected_(HBO_series)

Doesn't contain spoilers.

PamDooove · 14/02/2023 16:09

SprungIsSpringing · 14/02/2023 10:06

I didn't interpret Ellie's blood not saving Sam as a sign that her blood is not a cure. More that the method of delivery was very unlikely to be effective, simple though it might appear to a child.

Surely it wouldn't be as easy easy as just wipin some blood on the scratch? It would need some kind of science processing into something like an injection?

Is it her blood thats important anyway? Doesn't the fungus infect your brain, so is it Ellie's brain that is important? Which is horrifying for Ellie really, they'll need to study her brain to work out how she's immune. Yikes. Maybe that's the ending, her trying to run from people who want to kill her to get to her brain 😵

SprungIsSpringing · 14/02/2023 16:11

That's true @PamDooove

Maybe the 'twist' as that in this zombie world, it's the living want to eat brains and not the zombies Grin

DuncinToffee · 14/02/2023 16:36

I thought there was a sweet naivety in her belief that her blood could cure him.

That made the final scene with the 'I'm sorry' and them continuing their journey more poignant.

(That walk reminded me of the original tv series of the Hulk, showing my age here Grin)

MotherOfHouseplants · 14/02/2023 18:00

This thread is fab but I am desperate to discuss the show in the context of game spoilers so I have started a parallel thread in Gaming. Please only follow me if you have played TLOU 1 and 2!

Have I missed something here? I only started watching a week ago (though have watched all 5). Why would people go out of their way to post spoilers for season 2? Aren't there always spoilers online for big TV shows? Or do you mean lots more spollers than normal for some reason? Do I need to be avoiding season 2 spollers now or only once it's been made?
