But if you were trying to phone someone urgently and they didn't answer the landline wouldn't you call the mobile as well?

She did - at one point she told her colleagues she’d tried both.

storminabuttercup · 31/01/2023 12:42

I was more surprised the landline was plugged in to be honest

upinaballoon · 31/01/2023 12:42

Sorry, can't follow whole thread through, not enough time.
But, thinking about Darius and TLR, if Darius wanted rid of TLR why didn't he bump him off after he'd picked him up? Why take him to Beetroot Man?
Is it possible that Darius did intend TLR to live, in Spain, usefully helping with scam over there, always under D's thumb, but changed his mind because TLR was so insistent that he wants to do just that one little job (kill CC) before Monday. Sorry if you've all discussed this, and I do like the wedding hat frivolity although I'm asking what seem like serious questions.

Rhondaa · 31/01/2023 12:45

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 12:40

I actually think Darius is a sexier psychopath, meself, but reach to their own.

His voice is pleasant but that beard would be a no from me.

We don't know. We're all just grasping at straws trying to work out why they'd spring him and why Darius was acting all fishy in't van.

Still at least we haven't gone back down the it's Joyce she's an ocg mole theory. Yet. 5 days to go though well be a sweaty delusional rabble be then.

I think Ryan or Catherine being involved in the demise of TLR is too obvious; I thought for a long time that it would be Ryan that killed TLR to save Catherine but this programme is known for the twists and turns. I think Catherine telling Clare how weak she is on numerous occasions this series has been foreshadowing. I think Ryan will gather info from TLR and go to meet him with Catherine and a fight will ensue. TLR will be close to killing Catherine and Ryan will try to stop it but Clare will deliver the fatal blow. Maybe we won't know she's even there until the last moments. That will prove to Catherine how much Clare loves her and will let Clare show she's not weak. Clare has been like a parent to Ryan, doing his dinner, bedtime and emotionally supporting him etc - she loves Ryan as much as Catherine. She showed that by taking him to see TLR, whilst it was completely the wrong thing to do, she just wanted to make him happy.

I think you are on to something!

I can see it now, Tommy is on the verge of killing Catherine/Ryan, his beautiful face is all psychotic rage filling the screen, then his expression changes he slumps out of shot revealing behind him Claire, who we didn't realise was there, she's in her afghan coat, armed with Alison's shotgun/the beetroot knife/the big wrench Alison was using on the Landy.

She goes immediately to a seriously wounded Catherine and together with Ryan (shaken and bloodied but not seriously injured) cradles her until the paramedics arrive. Called by Alison/Neil who saw enough to provide compelling evidence that the blow was delivered to save Catherine/Ryan. As they wait Claire apologises to Catherine and tells her that her and Ryan are her whole world.

Flash forward to Catherine recovering from her injuries, Claire is looking after her and Ryan, they are reconciled. Ryan and Claire know more about what happened to Becky, Catherine understands that Claire was always trying to protect Ryan by ensuring that he was safe visiting his father which he was determined to do by whatever means.

Tommy is suffering, Claire didn't kill him, but he'll never be a risk again. He's staring out of a window in a secure hospital, he has no use of his arms or legs his spinal cord was completely severed so he will never recover. He gets no visitors.

afty · 31/01/2023 12:52

storminabuttercup · 31/01/2023 12:35

@AntonDuPig I actually re-wound it to check about the phone message, was definitely on the house phone!

Catherine says she tried both the house phone and mobile

HannaHat · 31/01/2023 12:54

I can't see TLR's being a shooting death unless it's the OCG pulling the trigger.
I'd like a bit of a joint enterprise death, Catherine, Ann and maybe Claire beating him to death 😬

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 31/01/2023 12:56

Why is this making me laugh tho? Grin

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 12:56

Serious questions are also welcome @upinaballoon .

I think Darius wouldn't risk killing Tommy in the van because
a) messy
b) risky

He's a man who would take no chances - what if he got stopped for a broken tail light, or hit a sheep or summat, and there TLR bleeding out in the back? Plus, you NEVER get all the traces of blood and other bodily fluids out of anywhere - and then he wouldn't be able to trust whoever he put on the "valeting" detail (because there's no way he'd clear that nastiness up himself.

And what if Tommy - a psychopath's psychopath if there ever was one - managed not to get killed first shot? Darius could end up bloodied and bruised, or even dedded himself. Doesn't want to have to explain that. And then there's the corpse to get rid of.

BeetrootMan (or Granda Beetroot as Ilike to think of him - it's cosier 😁) looks like someone who could slip a knife silently between someone's ribs and give it that special twist that severs the aorta, causing maximum deddedness with minimum fuss and minimum bleed out.

He'd probably eat him as well - don't want to waste all of that good protein (he remembers the Holodomor). He'd certainly not worry about getting rid of a body safely and discretely - I think he's done that before, and more than once.

I think possibly if Tommy hadn't been so insistent on killing Catherine, and have Ryan with him, Darius would have either sent him to Marbella, or (highly likely) at least kept him in the dark long enough for a knife to be stuck between his ribs on a boat, and the body tipped over the side.

upinaballoon · 31/01/2023 12:56

Rob Hepworth Lord Babbington

He shouldn't be convicted of Jo's murder. He didn't do it. I know and you know and CC suspects, that he was a controlling and violent husband but Jo isn't there any more, to leave him or bring charges. Is Poppy traumatised by the atmosphere at home or by more? Will Rob's mother have time in 70 minutes to ask and say lots of significant things? Will Poppy stop speaking to all of them? Will Rob have flashbacks, like Faisal? Will he be unable to sleep? Will he be in such a state that he has to go to the doctor and be prescribed tranquillizers? Will he kill himself? If he did, would the girls be better or worse off for it? Will Catherine have time before the end to shout home truths at him?

JaneJeffer · 31/01/2023 12:57

I’m sure it was on the home phone landline that Catherine called and left a message on
I think Catherine said she rang both numbers?

I got the feeling Darius didn't realise how deranged Tommy is until he spent time with him. Maybe that was his reason for collecting him so he could suss him out?

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 12:57

Rhondaa · 31/01/2023 12:45

Rob Hepworth Lord Babbington
Good old Babington so different from Rob Grin

upinaballoon · 31/01/2023 13:02

When they were in the van I thought Darius was more attractive than TLR. Oooh, save me. I'm going for a sandwich and a wee-wee now.

JaneJeffer · 31/01/2023 13:05

Yeah I don't fancy TLR at all

RandomersAssociation · 31/01/2023 13:06

He'd probably eat him as well Grin

Even now, SW is hastily dictating a new scene to Siri. And scrambling to recall the director and actors from their scattered locations …

We absolutely must have TLR devoured before the end.

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 13:09

Will Rob's mother have time in 70 minutes to ask and say lots of significant things?

His mother obviously thought he was capable of it. I wonder what Father Neckbeard was like? Similarly violent and controlling?

I want Neckbeard to go down for Joanne even though he didn't do it, because I think it's important that those girls are taken off him. I want Jo's mam and dad to get custody. I'm still wondering if he abuses his girls and Poppy lets this slip. If he ends up in the nonce's wing that will do for me.

Pfizer will end up getting killed by the OCG, or taking his own life, or admitting everything when the police knock on his door about the tablets (my favourite result)*. He'll not get away scott free.

*I want to see Mrs Pfizer's face - she's so holier-than-thou and bossy and judgemental. She was loving the drama of the neighbour being arrested for murder - I want to see her when it's HER husband being escorted in cuffs to a waiting police car. She'll be on to a divorce lawyer before the door's clicked shut behind him, I suspect.

😄

PrincessScarlett · 31/01/2023 13:16

Maybe Darius took such a risk in collecting TLR as TLR is actually the king pin of the organisation and not Darius 🤷🏻‍♀️

MavisMcMinty · 31/01/2023 13:17

It’s Tuesday already. Just 5 more sleeps and we’ll be feeling bereft and maybe even let down by 22.10 on Sunday. So glad it hasn’t been downloadable, what with all the cliffhanger endings to episodes, this is how we used to have to watch telly!

PrincessScarlett · 31/01/2023 13:18

@Emotionalsupportviper yes can't wait to see Faisal's wife's face when she finds out what he's been up to! 🤣

martinisforeveryone · 31/01/2023 13:19

diddl · 31/01/2023 11:14

Ryan has always struggled with his behaviour hasn't he (such that Catherine was worried about him taking after TLR)

So how good an upbringing has he had?

Obviously a lot better than TLR yet here he now is chatting with TLR, talking about meeting up & supposedly thinking about Marbella!

When Catherine says that TLR isn't his dad that was presumably t reassure Ryan that he won't automatically be like TLR?

The old nature v nurture debate, but Ryan’s first thought being his exams and his apprenticeship seem a good pointer. He’s had so much kept from him over the years, he was trying to make up his own mind about TLR, but only from one side of the story. Now he’s been filled in with not only his granny’s point of view, but Ann’s devastating first hand experience. It’s so much to process, but I’m sure he’ll come out of it a good guy, if not a hero figure.

RainySummer · 31/01/2023 13:19

I didn’t see this mentioned (sorry if it has), did anyone else notice Jason Merrells sitting round the table at the CID briefing, I wasn’t aware of him being in it before? I’m wondering if he’s got a bigger part to play in the last episode … unless he took a small role because he’s a fan?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2023 13:21

No worries @bettytaghetti

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon that is a hell of an ending

Quite impressed !!

He wasn't given a phone as to keep him off contacting anyone whether to buy a gun or attempt a hit on Catherine's life
