James Norton with TLR accent. That'll do nicely.

Well, I meant James Norton with a Yorkshire accent.

Ohyoudodoyou · 22/01/2023 22:33

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches - you have made a very valid point. I would lean over, take one, next thing - buried off Coney Island like Big Pussy.

AntonDuPig · 22/01/2023 22:33

Awww, I was really quite cross with our Clare and Neil last week, but I can see now that they really do love Ryan and only accompanied him to HMS Sheffield because they wanted to support him.
You could totally see the concern for him when they were having that chat with him after Catherine’s conversation with Neil. Clare kept looking up at Ryan’s face to watch his reactions to what Neil was saying.

How many MNetters husband’s will be falsely pursued on the roads of the UK when the police check the CCTV and see TLR in lycra?

Bloody hell, it's a bit of a doddle escaping from Leeds Crown Court. The only way they could have made it easier would be to have placed a mini-trampette in that dock. I'm guessing in real life there may be a bit more of an armed police presence when someone with TLR's background is transferred to court.

I knew that Neil wouldn't be dodgy when the Nisa branding was given such prominence. There's no way they were going to allow themselves to be associated with drug-dealing and money-laundering.

I found the horrible PE teacher really compelling and intriguing in the first episode but, unless they find a clever way of integrating it with the rest of the storylines, it's coming across as filler.

The Knezevics are another weak link. At the moment they are cartoon villains and not that convincing.

Strange to see Andrew Tiernan not playing a psychopath or weirdo. He and Susan Lynch were really disturbing together in Cracker.

One of my predictions (ok, I've made about 300), is Richard dying while trying to stop TLR from taking Ryan. Tonight's events are making me think I could be right for once.

Did Catherine's boss once win a lifetime's supply of Sugar-Free Polos? He always seems to be sucking on something when she's having a word.

I can see Andre tiernan is in cracker (Sean) but not in hsppy valley. Who is he playing?

breathcalmly · 22/01/2023 22:35

Love Ryan too, especially when he says ‘night/bye granny, love you’ melts my heart as a mum of a teenage boy. Really hope he gets to go to the Himalayas with his gran in the Land Rover 💕

Agreed, I really hope they get to go together and heal!

Sometimes she doesn't respond and I yell 'tell him you love him too, Catherine!'

DuncanBiscuits · 22/01/2023 22:37

I knew two girls that both ended up living with/married to their teachers. It was only in the 90s. Amazing what went on, really.

Agree, we need a happy ending in Happy Valley or there will be a lot of very sad people.

We just witnessed Jimmy Norton's audition, didn't we?

Victor was ‘007’ in Ivan’s phone!

WhoWants2Know · 22/01/2023 22:39

I'm going to have to watch it again with subtitles to pick up what I missed. Did Ryan actually say anything during the whole episode? He was on screen a lot, but mostly silent.

SapphosRock · 22/01/2023 22:40

Kaftanesque · 22/01/2023 22:31

Apparently Sally Wainwright left such a long gap between series because she wanted the same actor to play Ryan throughout. And James Norton and he get on so well.JN rates him highly as an upcoming actor and is mentoring him. That's nice.

Awww

Just finished as I was a bit behind. Because I like to nit pick why was it dusk with street lights on as he cycled off if it all kicked off at 1.55 🤪

Umm, a total eclipse? Just ..... The North? That lycra was so tight it took him 5 hours to get into it, and he's such a baddie the police cars were still rocking up?

I wonder if the irony will be that after years of Catherine's instincts being sound, but often ignored by her bosses, her final case will send down a man who is a nasty piece of work but who is actually innocent?

I like Ann but she was a bit annoying in this episode; understandably upset at the realpolitik of policing but simultaneously lackadaisical about doing actual policing. I still say TLR is heading for her lovely old cottage at some point in the next two episodes.

I wonder if the revenge served cold will include horrible PE teacher as a target? A bit of an unnecessary diversion for TLR but it would be really funny if the two of them simultaneously offed each other like something from a Tarantino film. PE teacher is big enough and steroidal enough to have a good go at it.

How amazing was TLR at getting out of that glass box? Like a ninja!

ageingdisgracefully · 22/01/2023 22:43

Surely the corpse would have started to decompose (and smell) by the time it was found?

Why didn't misper cop note and check out the suitcase?

Pl242 · 22/01/2023 22:44

Great episode. Have to suspend some reality for the great escape!

It will be interesting to see if Neckbeard goes to the police or tries to hide body etc. Regardless, reckon that Catherine will deduce it wasn’t him (in her last two non busy days at work), even though she kind of wants it to be him. Faisal didn’t have gloves on all the time and those pills will be linked back to him.

TLR tries to take Ryan off into the sun with him. Ryan won’t want to go, he’ll try and abduct him. Who gets hurt in process?

Ann is not looking in a great way.

And will we see hapless thug’s wedding? So many questions.

TheaBrandt · 22/01/2023 22:11

He’s basically escaped disguised as my dh

😂 gonna buy DH some of those sunglasses 😎
Though after spending the whole episode drooling over James Norton I did have to admit that DH has better legs in cycling tights. TLR has much better hair though.

It was only the day before when she was killed, plus the garage would be cold.

He is playing the Missing Persons police officer.

Pl242 · 22/01/2023 22:48

Also, did anyone else notice when Neckbeard and girls came into the house, the younger one was looking at something in the hallway? Incredibly observant character maybe she sees something that is crucial, revealed in police interview?
