Poor Jas. The manipulation of the neck made me feel a bit 🤢.

I've just watched the first series on iPlayer. It is fascinating.

Mangolist · 10/02/2023 09:33

This is one of the reasons I'm loathe to move too far away from Cambridge!

JellyBeanFactory · 15/02/2023 20:57

About to start...

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2023 21:11

My ward looked after kids having scoliosis repairs until a year ago. When they moved to neurology. So I'm a bit 🙄 by all the dramatic narration. It's bread and butter for those surgeons. Though I'm amazed that they are operating on a patient who is so painfully thin with absolutely no reserves.

The boy with scoliosis looks so fragile.
The operation is gripping.
Hope he has a good outcome.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2023 22:30

Yes. We would bring patients like that in for tube feeding a few months pre op to fatten them up. Seeing this surgery I'm amazed how quickly we got them mobile again. Average length of stay was 5 days.

I thought that spinal surgery was brutal.

I was so glad it worked for the woman. I felt so bad for her. Such a horrible problem to have. I hope it doesn't happen for me

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/02/2023 06:54

Love this series. Narrator is Shaun Dooley. If you watched It's a Sin, he was the Dad on the Isle of Wight, married to Keeley Hawes.

LIZS · 22/02/2023 21:08

The foot reminds me of 24 hours in A & E a few weeks back.

LIZS · 22/02/2023 21:21

Omg Joan's foot

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 22/02/2023 21:26

Poor Joan. OMG.

RalphtheMouth · 22/02/2023 21:28

That poor woman, shocking injury!

Quebeccles · 22/02/2023 21:29

I’m watching this through my fingers, I’m afraid. Poor Joan, how awful for her 😥

FixTheBone · 22/02/2023 21:37

Narration is very dramatic!...

Not uncommon injuries though.

BabsDylan · 22/02/2023 21:39

Possible the most gory thing I’ve seen on tv (the foot degloving)
poor lady.

Viathethicket · 22/02/2023 21:45

I worked in theatres at Addenbrookes for years. It's interesting hearing how affected the surgeons are by the patients as that's something they usually kept very much to themselves.

Pearl97 · 22/02/2023 22:08

Is it worse than the foot on 24 hours in an and e? That made me wish I wasn’t alone in the house as it made me feel very weird!

Cocolapew · 22/02/2023 22:10

Omg those poor women, that was just horrific. They were so brave and polite as well.

Cocolapew · 22/02/2023 22:10

Yes it was worse 🫣

TheChosenTwo · 22/02/2023 22:29

Oh god it sounds like it’s more severe than the poor lady in an episode a few weeks ago who had a terrible ankle/foot injury after falling off her caravan steps - is it far worse? Not sure if I can watch if it is…

Cocolapew · 22/02/2023 22:37

It's very graphic because her foot was degloved not just broken.
There was a lot of poking and blood because they wanted to see what they could save.
The heel injury wasn't quite as bad.

TheChosenTwo · 22/02/2023 23:06

Jesus, I definitely can’t face that. Thanks for the warning, I was just settling down in bed to watch something, will be swerving this weeks episode. Do hope she made a good recovery though, sounds traumatic. How did it happen?

Cocolapew · 22/02/2023 23:16

She was hit by a van crossing the road.
The other lady was in a head on collision, her heel and pelvis was shattered.
I did have to look away a couple of times myself!

JustDanceAddict · 23/02/2023 07:20

The degloved foot 🤢
poor woman, I felt really bad for her, but I had to look away.

vestanesta · 23/02/2023 08:20

This was the only one I wasn't glued to as I found the foot just too much. That poor lady!
