Poor Jas. The manipulation of the neck made me feel a bit 🤢.

This is nail biting.

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2023 21:47

I just don’t know how they even know what’s what inside human body’s. I know it’s what they do and they’ve studied and done these operations time and time again but the minute they slice someone open it all just looks the same to me!

Quebeccles · 25/01/2023 21:56

How brave Ruth is.

Simonjt · 25/01/2023 21:58

Saved my arse 🤣

JellyBeanFactory · 25/01/2023 22:00

Oh I hope Ruth has many years ahead 💗

LIZS · 25/01/2023 22:01

Sadly it seems 2 years max. A friend died of same within six months of symptoms.

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2023 22:05

Blimey, I’m a bit behind but that brain came out of that tub like a steak tartare 🫣

MaggieFS · 25/01/2023 22:05

Golly gosh. All that for two years. But who wouldn't grab it I those shoes.

You can live a full life in two years, I'd take it.
Love this programme. Just humbling to see what people are capable of doing.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/01/2023 22:32

Really glad she recovered her speech!

I think it was one of the surgeon's themselves! He said after that it's the knowing how far to push what you're doing and when you stop which is the hard bit (, or words to that effect) but it was a funny comment

Toddlerteaplease · 25/01/2023 22:35

Didn't think it was as interesting this week. As Awake brain surgery and aneurysm repairs, featured quite heavily, either on previous series if this show or on another program. But can't remember which one. I watch any medical documentary!

Ruth is so brave and just lovely, bless her! Really great programme, only started watching this season, so am going to catch up with previous ones but a bit at a time, it’s quite heavy going but amazing viewing!

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2023 11:25

A surgeon once wrote that once the air gets to your brain your never the same again
I read this many years ago , but am never sure how true it is to be honest or where the quote came from. I remember reading it though.
Seeing them slice up those dead brains was fascinating. Probably the fantasy of si fi films and books , but could they be transplanted into a living person ? Or just not feasible at all ?
It looks so unlike any of our other organs. Such a complex op to go through.
I hope that Ruth continues to have some more time now and is well cared for.
These surgeons are so clever.

Cocolapew · 26/01/2023 11:54

Good grief that was amazing, Ruth was so lovely and brave. I hope she lives to see her daughter graduate.

Yes they'd definitely showed Ruth's operation before (although I don't think with the nail baiting suspension) and I think might have showed aneurysm as well actually

purpleme12 · 29/01/2023 22:21

Ruth was very brave.

Really worrying watch.

Funny at the end when she said you saved my arse

And yes this programme really makes me worry what can happen 🥺

purpleme12 · 29/01/2023 22:26

And the donated brain was kind of fascinating

OrlandointheWilderness · 30/01/2023 20:21

Although I can never read the title without my brain trying to read it as 'sturgeons on the edge of life...'

I've always loved the narrator of this programme.
He's so soothing.
I could lose myself in his voice!

I'm the opposite. Gives me the rage. It's so fake and over-dramatic

Is he the same chap as the SAS voice over?

purpleme12 · 03/02/2023 15:50

Yes

purpleme12 · 10/02/2023 08:52

There bit about the blood was fascinating.
I never knew they did that after they got the blood
