Sophie’s “flared nostril” acting was appalling. Shame because overall the casting and acting quality is pretty good on this show.

MsMcGonagall · 17/02/2023 22:37

So... she hates him, decides to come to the island and get to know him... he then injures her in a jet ski accident... and she doesn't at that point frank and tell him how crap she thinks he is??

A bafflingly long game... or just a rubbish plot?

They did have zero chemistry though so that's explained.

InMySpareTime · 17/02/2023 23:01

Sophie's motive made no sense anyway. If she was so annoyed about the injustice of her sister's conviction she could have spoken up at the time. She was far more blame than Neville. All he did was take the evidence as presented. She withheld vital evidence (that she was actually the drug dealer and what was on the burner phone).
This episode and the last have both had murderers that had no scruples in killing for no direct personal motive against the victim but just to get at someone else. That's a very unusual MO for two separate people to have.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 17/02/2023 23:05

I never understood why that guy killed his cleaner's husband - was that explained?

I never understood why that guy killed his cleaner's husband - was that explained?

Just to prove he could do it and get away with it, victim could have been anybody.

rothbury · 18/02/2023 07:56

Yeah the plot around criminologist is very woolly.

He wants to get one over on Neville, but doesn’t even know who his girlfriend is. On a tiny Caribbean island? I used to live on a very similar island and it’s inconceivable that he wouldn’t have recognised who Sophie was.
Unless we believe he didn’t do any homework on Neville at all?

woodhill · 18/02/2023 08:54

I was slightly confused about the key aspect of the crime

This was actually quite a good episode, better than the other ones of late

I thought it was Sophie on the paperwork and she was Grace and wasn't dead itms

EasilyDirected · 18/02/2023 09:12

We thought it was Sophie because of the bad acting which seemed deliberate and had gone on for a few weeks. Seemed pretty unlikely that she would have the means for all the transatlantic travel though and that she would have the guts to do it if she wasn't brave enough to confess to her part in her sister's conviction.

Here’s my tuppence worth -
I think Nevilles girlfriend might turn out to be dodgy and his old colleague that turned up is in the cyber fraud squad (I think, if remembering correctly) is onto her & has tracked her there, hence why he isn’t telling anyone he’s there at the moment…
Or
She is completely innocent & Robert Webb will kidnap her…
Or
She is the old colleagues ex or current wife (both Manchester based) & he has tracked her & knows she has visited there...

Tbh I don’t have a clue but I think all the stories will somehow tie up in the end…

Well I was kind of partially correct - I thought the stories would tie up (as all Manchester based) & thought the girlfriend was dodgy.
I hope Neville doesn’t leave though.

Riverlee · 18/02/2023 09:37

I agree that was a better episode.

I like Neville as the DI - one of the better ones I think. He could easily have a spin-off series in rural Peak District (if he’s from Manchester) as well. Maybe, if Beyond Paradise is ongoing, they could incorporate him into a story line also. Ie. Goes on holiday in that area and somehow gets involved in solving a crime, or gets involved due to a link to St Honore.

Sophie is awful. I hate the way they keep shoe horning unbelievable romances in to this. Agree at the end of each of the last few episodes there's been one person behaving oddly but I can't remember who they are. Marlon having to apologise for failing his exam is silly. He failed his exam. That was his punishment. Being ambitious and trying shouldn't be punished. Silly assuming Neville did it and locking him up

Marlon wasn't apololgising for failing his exam - he was apologising for not listening to Selwyn who told him he wasn't ready for it and knew very well that he wouldn't pass it at that stage.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/02/2023 22:55

Too late to watch last night as dh wasn't in till 10

So just seen

And now almost 11 so could have watched last night 😂😂

Avoided thread till now

Sophie was dodgy

Well done to whoever said that weeks ago

I did think the photo in the file looked like her and was her sister

Shame Neville didn't get romance 🥲

And yes the bloke last week
Just wanted to prove anyone can kill
Ans fake evidence for his new book

And Sophie was rude /horrid to the gecko

DD made us watch it when we all got back from the pub at midnight last night, that's how much she loves it.

LIZS · 18/02/2023 23:23

If Andy was corrupt, how come Sophie had not gone after him? The island was not that big so how did they not all come across each other. Did Neville not interview the sister of Grace, or come across any pictures on file at the time. Seems a pretty dodgy murder investigation all round and not his style at all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/02/2023 23:45

Think they said they were in a home so prob didn't know she had a sister

OP posts:
LIZS · 18/02/2023 23:46

Thought they had left the home by then, Sophie was the older one looking out for Grace.

TwoDrifters2 · 19/02/2023 01:23

So… Sophie absolutely hated Neville, to the point of wanting him framed for murder and his life wrecked.

But was willing to live with him in his beach hut, kiss him, and presumably sleep with him, whilst simultaneously hating him for what he’d done to her sister?

I found it all so odd and contrived.

midsomermurderess · 19/02/2023 02:15

They are setting up a trajectory for Neville to leave. He's lost his confidence, can't see what's in front of his face anymore, has to go home. How long has Ralf Little been in the role? I wonder who it'll be next, maybe a woman.

Tapenade · 19/02/2023 08:08

I’d quite like it to be the woman who investigated Neville

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/02/2023 09:07

The main role has always been a man

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 19/02/2023 09:13

So far.

there's no reason it can't be a woman.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/02/2023 09:33

It was Shirley Henderson for a couple of weeks years ago.

Abraxan · 19/02/2023 09:41

I don't think the investigating officer has the right character for the role.
The others have all been a bit clumsy/ditsy gentle type characters but she was much harsher in her approach. I don't think she'd be quite the right fit. Whoever the next one is, if Neville goes, needs to fit into the existing team but I just don't feel she was right for that. Whilst it's so far always been a man, which has seemed to work well, there could be a woman in place. But needs the same type of personality as the previous to work I think.

diddl · 19/02/2023 10:44

Might be nice to have a change though?

Persephonegoddess · 19/02/2023 10:49

The way she commented on the shack, she must be next?
