1 - team investigate the mysterious death of an astronomer after he falls from a cliff

So is Neville leaving and another inspector coming

I was feeling a bit sorry for the actor that plays his mate, getting a DiP gig and only being seen on screen, so wasn’t hugely surprised when he turned up at the airport. I don’t think he’ll be a replacement, they usually go for someone pretty well known don’t they?

So what happened to his friend Andy this week? That was a weird storyline that went nowhere?

There have been a couple of weird storylines that don’t really go anywhere this series - maybe they’ll all tie up in the end

They left a body out in the open all night in 40 degree heat. By rights that would have been a ripe crime scene!

I was a bit worried when Naomi had a flashback moment near the denouement that they were going with her solving it, but thankfully not. I have no objection to Naomi, but there's a process!

DH reckons Neville's girlfriend will come back, and then get offed or arrested for something by the dodgy looking colleague. I reckon Robert Webb might kidnap her or something, and then she'll get rescued with the help of the dodgy looking colleague.

I wondered where mate Andy and Robert Webb were yesterday as well.

Surely the policeman would have resigned after making such a big error regarding the fire? How can he be a one-man police force?

I guessed it was the sister fairly early on.

They didn’t let on to Marlon the exam was later.

I got this one wrong

Marlon and detective too and tailing with whale music was funny

I like Marlon. He seems a thoroughly good sort really.

Here’s my tuppence worth -
I think Nevilles girlfriend might turn out to be dodgy and his old colleague that turned up is in the cyber fraud squad (I think, if remembering correctly) is onto her & has tracked her there, hence why he isn’t telling anyone he’s there at the moment…
Or
She is completely innocent & Robert Webb will kidnap her…
Or
She is the old colleagues ex or current wife (both Manchester based) & he has tracked her & knows she has visited there...

Tbh I don’t have a clue but I think all the stories will somehow tie up in the end…

I think they are building up to the big mid-season drama which is often a 2 parter - last year it was Florence undercover with the drug dealers

We have this year

• Selwyn's daughter
• Nev's (possibly dodgy) gf
• Nev's mate the DI
• Marlon's exam
• the last guy standing from the prepper bunker case who appeared right at the end of that episode staring moodily at the cops (or Nev's gf?) in his pick-up truck as gf boarded the boat

They should have left Darlene in the office. That would have been a good role - the sorter-out, the IT/research person, the common sense, no-nonsense foil to Marlon. Her clothes were great too - distinctive and bright. A chance to add a dimension with people popping into the station more. Now she's just another officer running about in a tight skirt - and the threesome doesn't work.

Guessed the sister did it early on in this episode. It was ok but I still miss the humour and delight of the early days with Duane and Fidel and JP - and the power of Camille and Florence. I feel it's lost it's mojo. But I still watch!

i liked Camille and Florence much better than Naomi but I really like Marlon and quite like Nev. as an aside, why does everybody think the girlfriend is dodgy, have I missed something?

Be nice if Sophie isn't dodgy so Neville has some Romance

People think she js dodgy due to his mate videoing calling him to say something about Sophie but we didn't find out what as friend hung up or connection went

Was what his mate had to say definitely about Sophie? I can't remember exactly what he said. Could it be about Robert Webb instead?

I preferred a couple of series back with JP I love Marlon but the older lady isn’t working for me at all . It’s still nice to watch for the sun and the daftness but I feel my attention wandering a lot now when it’s on

I’d actually like to see Camille or Florence come back as the DI next time around, Shake things up a bit.

Did they definantly mention Sophie? I don’t recall any name being mentioned.

There was another Sergeant back in Jack's day wasn't there, Madeleine. Looked a bit like Camille. I don't think Naomi has the character that the other sergeants had. Also not a fan of Darlene as an officer - although it would be interesting if Duane came back, seeing as she was once his girlfriend!

Was Madeleine the "sensible" one from France who stayed on as a favour or something? Rather like the usual police recruitement process 😂
