I happen to own a Sahara desert rose. Reece was told quite early on that it was a fossil, unfortunately, he doesn't know what that means.
Also, the way they were mispronouncing "palourde" as "poularde", I was hoping somebody was going to flog them a chicken.

Ellmau · 27/01/2023 07:51

Did either of them get a palourde? I still don't know what it is...

Riverlee · 27/01/2023 07:56

@ellmau Me neither.

AnImaginaryCat · 27/01/2023 07:58

I fear I would have been useless in this task never heard of a Sussex trug, palourde or dessert roses.

Though I might have cottoned on the dessert roses weren't flowers by the second florist.

Karen was in bad form wasn't she. Aside from the asparagus thing, they directly asked the man in the flea market what a trug was, he told them it was a basket and didn't inform them he had one.

Not that I want to defend the idiots but they weren't looking for something they didn't know what it looked
like and also they didn't know was there.

I often wonder how I'd find things from a list of deliberately obscure items in a place I didn't know. It's quite a difficult task - even if you aren't a group of dopey draws.

Could they go to a library I wonder and look stuff up. Do libraries still have encyclopedias out? Or are they all electronic now?

(Reese reminds me of a young Eddie the Eagle - looks wise - for reasons I can't quite put my finger on.)

One team asked a shopkeeper who said they thought it was a type of shellfish. But didn’t see either team go into a fishmonger

lollipoprainbow · 27/01/2023 08:14

If they didn't know what a trug was in the first place why would they notice it in the shop or 'flea market' as snooty Karen called it. She's certainly ramped up the haughtiness.

I've gone off her a bit this year and I usually love her! She gaslighted Reece with the asparagus situation. I'm not a fan of him, but it was uncalled for to make him doubt himself like that in-front of everyone.

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 11:18

Karren was just horrible
I'd love to see her try and source things without the internet at her disposal etc
I had to look up trugs and desert roses !

lookslikeitsgoingtosnow · 27/01/2023 11:22

I don't think any one they encounter can offer up information so the guy in the flea market when asked 'what is a trug' answered but couldn't tell them he had one as they didn't ask that specific question. I thought Mark should have gone this week.

Yes I preferred Margaret

Tim's a bit kinder

She was mean about the true

woodhill · 27/01/2023 11:37

True

woodhill · 27/01/2023 11:37

Grr autocorrect

Trug

Ilovetea33 · 27/01/2023 12:11

A palourde is a clam. I was surprised that we never saw them go to a fishmonger and that they weren't mentioned in the boardroom.

Riverlee · 27/01/2023 12:56

@AnImaginaryCat you’re so right about Reese!

NeelyOHara1 · 27/01/2023 19:24

I think Dani might win, I've noticed her but not registered her name till this episode. She seems to come out with sensible suggestions. She might have a crap business idea though..

Rowthe · 27/01/2023 21:22

Cant believe so many of them were so proud to announce they didnt know how to read a map🤦🏽‍♀️

Rowthe · 27/01/2023 21:27

IneedanewTV · 26/01/2023 22:40

Yeah I thought that he said yes. Karen was pretty arrogant then.

Yes I was also confused.

I was pretty sure the guy had said yes too.

Bet if they had just bought it without checking again when they arrived to buy it, it would have counted as an item.

Rowthe · 27/01/2023 21:31

Poor Denisha.

She picked the right 2 to bring into the boardroom, but as soon as she picked them, I thought-
Shes gonna get eaten alive by them 2.

Fizbosshoes · 27/01/2023 22:17

IneedanewTV · 26/01/2023 22:40

Yeah I thought that he said yes. Karen was pretty arrogant then.

Yes I thought she was wrong. He definitely said it was picked that day.
Karen was so disparaging about the trug but how could they "use their eyes" when they didn't know what one was! 🙄

houselikeashed · 27/01/2023 22:24

I think they should make Karen apologise about the asparagus thing.
Also for her general make up too.

Proudofitbabe · 28/01/2023 00:54

Karren was horrible this week, more so than usual. Wrong on the asparagus thing, and then hard on Reece in the boardroom knowing he'd just have to accept her word for it. Very annoying.

I also thought the other bloke made a reasonable point about the nautical thing, and Alan seemed to think so too! Again Karren with the sneery challenge!
Far prefer Tim, he's pretty fair and therefore so much more credible than Karren who's only ever looking to undermine candidates.

billysboy · 28/01/2023 06:44

Maybe the producers are lining Karen up to take over Lord Sugars role although I am not sure she will be able to produce the quality jokes that Lord Sugar comes out with !

Maireas · 28/01/2023 09:42

I don't know why Karren is so sneery, I'd like to see how she'd got on with some of the challenges. I also wonder why women would choose to wear high heels when running around Brighton.

Agree with both.
In fact despite most of the contestants being quite unlikeable, Alan Sugar and Karren are even more unlikeable! (Tim doesn't seem as nasty)
I'm not sure why I watch the programme because the premise seems to be:
-Set a task that is almost impossible to fulfill

  • Enjoy watching them struggle
-sneer at stuff they (not unreasonably) don't know -bring them to the boardroom to laugh at them (and make unbearably horrendous jokes)

Although I still don't understand why they wear heels for practical tasks

Maireas · 28/01/2023 10:18

I agree. Tim seems ok, and, credit to Sugar, he did work hard and has always paid tax and been a generous benefactor, so I'm inclined to give him a bit of a pass. Karren I'm finding a bit unpleasant.
