the man who was kicked off last night, i am not sure what he did wrong?

overall they seemed as a team quite organised - sold out of all the buns (and made what they expected) - selling for £1 is good if the stock is perishable and not needed for another day. the only "error" was not asking say £1 more for toppings.

The big cock up was only doing 50 buns at £4 in the first deal - which was the Team leader.

so odd decision as to who went, as overall they seemed much more organised than the ladies.

I didn't know this was back on until I was browsing the tv last night. It's normally front page Daily Mail news the week before. Loved yesterday's show!

It's just a gimmick that the task "failure" (they made a profit!) is someone's fault. The mistake the boys really made was not upselling. It isn't always that the entire task failed because of one person...in fact, it rarely is.

burnoutbabe · 13/01/2023 14:52

true, lots of the early firings are just pot luck, no one did much wrong (and quite why "can't roll dough" is a potential firing reason, who knows!)

Twonewcats · 13/01/2023 15:53

We always find it fascinating on these selling tasks, that £500-ish profit is deemed to be a success, when it took 2 days for eg 6 people to achieve it. £250 a day minus tax between 6 of them is shocking 😅

Yes - team leader should have gone - the negotiation was shocking. And they were lucky to get any money at all for those pathetic dinosaur buns!

I hope this isn’t going to be another series when all they do is-

  • design product
  • make product
  • sell product
So far, we’ve had 2/2 in this format.

They didn't exactly go for the natural look in Dynasty, to be fair. Did anyone's hair ever move in the wind?

That's my issue- we're still showing kids ridiculous views of what women should look like.

SideshowAuntSallly · 13/01/2023 20:02

Kevin looks like a slightly more upmarket Jamie Vardy. They've also never shown the Hoover Building before on their 'last drive'.

I always think it’s chinny when they get a call whilst asleep at 3am saying “be ready in 20mins” and they’re able to wake / shower / eat / wash & curl hair / apply fake eyelashes / apply 3 inches of contouring / get dressed up and out the door in 20mins! 😂

The women clearly spend at least 1-2 hours getting ready, the men probably not much less. HOW do they think we believe they go from asleep to sitting in those black cars in 20mins?!?!

I'm sure there was an AMA a couple of years ago from someone who had been on or had connections with the programme

That was one of the things everyone wanted to know.

Apollonia1 · 13/01/2023 23:38

Yes, I remember a former contestant saying that the phone call says "the cars will be outside in 20 mins", but not that they have to be in the cars within 20 mins.

So even if the cars arrive, they still spend much longer getting dressed/ready.

Get your phone calculators surely girls

There's almost certainly a rule banning them from doing this.

I was so annoyed at the girls all saying they aren't good at the numbers. You're not being asked to do calculus ffs. It's basic costings which as business owners you should all be doing very regularly.

Felt like Kev's only mistake was not charging for extras. As he said on You're Fired, he was criticised for dropping the price later on to shift the leftover stock, but he'd also have been criticised if they returned with leftover perishable stock so he couldn't win.

Fizbosshoes · 14/01/2023 16:07

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to use their phones but they did have a pencil and paper (and it wasn't a particularly complicated sum)

As much as the contestants infuriate me the whole thing does in a way. (But I still watch it!!🤣) Most people (Alan Sugar, Karen etc included) are probably not great at every aspect of business. Making bao buns for example - probably none of them are experienced in this in everyday life. So excusable if they aren't experts at it.
You could see that some of them had a better or easier manner/charm/gift of the gab when effectively cold-call selling....but some might be better at creating, advertising, or digital marketing etc. Even with sales themselves some environments lend themselves to the hard sell, others might have a captive audience where the person only goes once they've definitely decided to make a purchase.

Alan Sugar often seems to favour the top sales people, the ones who could sell ice to Eskimos etc but they don't always have the best product or the best ideas. There was one a few years ago who was a brilliant salesperson but then they had to create a toy for kids of about 8 and he designed something more suitable for a 2 year old!

AnImaginaryCat · 14/01/2023 18:50

The poo toothbrush from last year was a prime example of not coming up.with the best product. 😄

Fizbosshoes · 14/01/2023 19:21

The poo toothbrush - how on earth did I forget that?? 🤣 (but iirc it was Aaron's idea....and he stayed in "the process" almost until the final)

BogRollBOGOF · 14/01/2023 20:20

I'd forgotten about the recurring poo themes last year 😂

I recently heard the word bouji and was thrilled that I remembered what it meant 😁

ArticSaviour · 19/01/2023 20:57
