new drama over 4 nights

we either love or hate ch5 dramas 😂😂

A newlywed couple living in the Melbourne suburbs have their lives shattered by tragedy. Alison Weston (Ackley Bridge star Jo Joyner) is left devastated when her new husband Sean (Neighbours star Peter O’Brien) goes out surfing one morning and fails to return home. After an extensive search of the coast near their home, the police conclude that Sean drowned in a dangerous riptide - but a grieving Alison, increasingly aware of the tensions among her family and close friends, begins to suspect that something else happened to him...

"What I think is unusual about this thriller is that you don’t spend all four episodes wondering who did what," explains Jo Joyner. "You spend a good amount of time being suspicious of everybody, but at a certain point the audience hold all the cards, and I think that has its own thrill. They will know who they shouldn’t trust, and then that becomes even more suspense-filled!"

Hi Blondes,

Thanks for the thread. I just watched Ep 1. Anyone else seen it yet?

Ladywiddio48 · 27/12/2022 22:27

I watched it,the daughter is supposed to be 16! The actress looks to be around 30!

EachandEveryone · 27/12/2022 22:28

Oh why do they always live in that style of house with windows everywhere? Just, no!

AutumnCrow · 27/12/2022 22:36

Yeah, it has all the clichés so far: massive glass 'architecturally interesting' house (but no sign of any staff let alone window cleaners); teenage daughter of indeterminate age; embittered ex-wife; etc etc.

I found it quite plodding tbh. Which is awful when you think how beautiful the location is.

RoyFuckingKent · 27/12/2022 23:06

I’ve read a book with an extremely similar premise to this. Anyone know if it’s based on a book?

I can't think of the exact one, but there are a lot of 'disappearing spouses' mysteries out there.

Clearly. It having read the synopsis it shared quite a few details…

RoyFuckingKent · 28/12/2022 00:04

Aha! The one I’m thinking was ‘The new husband’ by DJ Palmer. Need to watch the first episode now but from bits I’d read about the series it does seem similar.
but you are of course correct, missing husbands are a bit of a theme 😂

ThisTimeNext · 28/12/2022 00:40

I watched it and it took a bit of time to work out who was who. I couldn't see why the daughter had an Australian accent yet her mum didn't. Who was Ethan and was Jesse another brother or a boyfriend. And the timelines were not obvious but I assume that Alison and her husband moved to Oz maybe six or seven years ago, (Their DD - now 16 - would have picked up an Oz accent from having lived there since 10 but neither Alison nor (ex)DH would have lost theirs).
She must have left because DH was abusive and got together with Sean - married two years ago? Ethan left home but very angry and worried about not getting his father's money. (I think)

A bit slow in places and I didn't like the music but it's promising.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2022 12:29

Literally watching now - first ten mins

Haven't read replies. Be back once watches e1

Ethan obv doesn't love his new step mum

Who is Micheal - seem weird she is texting and meeting him few months after being married

Her daughter looks too old to be at school

And why would she think his death /disappearance is suss

Back once seen

Oh I loved this !!!

@AutumnCrow and @RoyFuckingKent not sure if based on a book

but we know I’m easily pleased with dramas 😂

yes so ex dh has a temper

ex dw is still very bitter

Ethan hates his new step mum and wnats his inheritance

and esp if a baby will get even less

wonder if the ivf will work and she will be preg

I assumed he would be found alive

but seem not

but no one mentioned burying his body

do we assume it’s the son Ethan

but is actually her ex who killed and buried him

cant wait till e2 but equally still at work tonight so will watch tomorrow

Got this recorded but haven't dipped in yet. Might have a look tonight.

Wingedharpy · 28/12/2022 17:31

Well, it's got me hooked.
They all did it is my theory!😉

NeelyOHara1 · 28/12/2022 19:49

Anyone else remember another C5 Oz set drama a few years ago, but with Charlie Brooks? Can't remember if that had a murder, probably did though.. Surely there was enough meat here for a drama without having to have someone bumped off, 🙄. Expect I'll finish watching it though, lol.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2022 20:02

@NeelyOHara1 yes. It was good

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2022 20:02

I enjoyed it, I suspect the neighbour isn't all he seems, in fact he is my top suspect
